A RoboCop prequel focusing on the life of a young Dick Jones is in the works at MGM, according to MovieHole. In a recent interview, original screenwriter Ed Neumeier had a special message for all the kids watching at home, and it wasn’t “stay out of trouble.” RoboCop is coming to TV.
“I’m working at MGM on it,” Neumeier told MovieHole. “With any luck, if MGM is willing, if we can find the partners, if we can get this pilot made, if we can convince a bunch of people.” The spinoff TV show will feature the president of Omni Consumer Products, the Ed-209 law enforcement robot’s biggest cheerleader, but it will have one thing missing. “It has all the cool stuff about RoboCop except no RoboCop,” Neumeier said. “It’s going to be about the evolution of Richard Jones to Dick Jones, the story of Ocp and...

Odin’s Eye Animation is launching Wheely, a computer-animated action comedy produced by South-East Asia’s Kartun Studios in Australian cinemas next month, kicking off a plan to release three to four titles each year.
The initiative by the sister company of Odin’s Eye Entertainment is counter-cyclical while most indie distributors are trimming their release slates.
“We’ve found there is room in the marketplace for a strategy such as ours,” says Martin Gallery, Odin’s Eye Entertainment head of international sales and distribution.
“We’re focusing on super-commercial, studio quality animated features. The only way audiences would notice they’re indie films would be the lack of a major studio’s logo at the start. No one cares how the film was financed as long as it’s polished, accessible and tells a good, fast-paced story. We do our research and only acquire titles that are as close as possible to a no-brainer.

The Movie Pool takes a long look at the short films of Pixar from their new Blu-ray!
The Set-up
Short films from Pixar, many featuring characters from the studio's feature fims, are presented.
The Delivery
This second collection of short films from Pixar features 12 cartoons in stunning high definition. Many of the shorts were previously available on Pixar home video releases (including "Hawaiian Vacation" and "Air Mater"), and three are Academy Award nominees.
What we get in Volume 2 of the series is an eclectic mix of styles and approaches, and for the most part, it all works well. While some are mildly amusing, others (like "Day and Night") are exceptional, that entertain and manage to be original.
The shorts included in the collection are:
"Your Friend the Rat" Ratatouille's Remy and Emile provide the disgusting yet funny history of rats. Director Jim Capobianco and production designer Nate Wragg provide an optional audio commentary.

Hey kids! Melissa here with another exciting tale for you. A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to visit Pixar Canada located in the lovely Gastown neighborhood of Vancouver. The studio will be focusing on shorts, such as the Toy Story shorts and Cars shorts that we all love. They were debuting Air Mater while I was there, which is included as a bonus feature on Cars 2.
Check out this video about Pixar Canada.
While there, I was lucky enough to speak with Rob Gibbs (director of Air Mater), Dylan Brown (Creative Director, Pixar Canada), Amir Nasrabadi (General Manager, Pixar Canada) and Darwyn Peachy (Cto, Pixar Canada). You will find the video clips below.
Vancouver is absolutely stunning! I was only there for the day, but the landscape is gorgeous. Pixar Canada’s offices are layed out in a way to compliment their surroundings and showcase the beautiful...

Pixar's "Cars 2" hits DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 1, and attentive Radiator Springs fans will notice a special bonus feature, "Air Mater." The new short in the "Mater's Tall Tales" direct-to-dvd franchise is the inaugural production from the creative team at Pixar Canada, the legendary animation studio's two-year-old outpost up north.
Unlike the expansive campus in Emeryville, California, the Vancouver-based Pixar studio is a boutique annex that will focus on projects involving the studio's most famous legacy characters. NextMovie was able to tour Pixar Canada and speak to various Pixar geniuses about what inspires them to continue making critically beloved blockbusters that all audiences -- kids, parents, child-free adults -- want to watch again and again.
If you don't get the new "Cars 2" DVD, you'll be able to see Pixar Canada's second short, "Small Fry," starring Buzz Lightyear, premiering before "The Muppets" on Nov. 23.

As Cars 2 continues to chug along toward its 2011 release date, Disney/Pixar will continue to debut a number of different short films set inside the ‘Cars’ universe. The latest, titled Heavy Metal Mater, was directed by John Lasseter and Rob Gibbs, and it will premiere on the Disney Channel this Friday at 9:30pm Et/Pt. Amusingly enough, Mark Mothersbaugh (lead singer of Devo) created the score for the short, which is fitting since it’s called Heavy Metal Mater and features Mater as a rock star in a garage band. The short will then follow Mater’s rise to the top of the charts with his hit song ‘Dad Gum.’ This is the seventh of nine Cars-related shorts Pixar will be shoveling out to fans as part of their Cars Toons lineup. In case you missed any of...

Pixar and Disney commander John Lasseter has already directed a few shorts based in his Cars universe, and now he's got a new one about to debut. Heavy Metal Mater is directed by Lasseter and Rob Gibbs, and will premiere on Friday on the Disney Channel. More details after the break. Not being too interested in the offshoots of Cars, the detail here that catches my eye is that the music for this short is by Mark Mothersbaugh. That's a good call for the film which, true to the title, casts Mater as a member of a metal band. (Um...) Here are all the details: Disney•Pixar will premiere its latest Cars Toons short this Friday at 9:30pm Et/Pt on the Disney Channel. Directed by the original Cars director (and head of Pixar) John Lasseter and co-directed by Rob Gibbs, the short is entitled Heavy Metal Mater and...

Directed by John Lasseter and co-director Rob Gibbs (a Pixar storyartist on Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Up and co-director of the Cars Toon short Tokyo Mater) featuring music by Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh (who is best known for his original music in Wes Anderson's films, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs). The official synopsis follows: "Mater is a professional wrestler who works his way up the ranks from amateur to World Champion Monster Truck Wrestler, wrestling all kinds of characters along the way. The computer animated short premiered on The Disney Channel on Friday, November 20th 2009.
