In 1928 British newspapers reported that he had sailed to America to be a horse trainer in Boston.
On August 8, 1929 he and actor Harry Deck were severely beaten by six men outside an entrance to a Hollywood studio. The dispute arose after he and Deck had refused to join Actor's Equity Association.
