On Wednesday, Hunter Biden appeared on Capitol Hill for deposition in the GOP’s impeachment inquiry into his father, President Joe Biden, and to deny the claim that the president had any involvement in his business dealings.
House Oversight and Judiciary Committees members interviewed Hunter during a closed-door session on Capitol Hill.
The president’s son came for the deposition before 10:00 a.m. while being flanked by his attorney Abbe Lowell. He did not give statements or speak to reporters.
“I am here today to provide the Committees with the one uncontestable fact that should end the false premise of this inquiry: I did not involve my father in my business,” Hunter told lawmakers in his testimony. “Not while I was a practicing lawyer, not in my investments or transactions domestic or international, not as a board member, and not as an artist. Never.”

George Santos insisted he was ready to expose all those other frauds in Congress, talked about his political future, and tried to remember some Civil Rights icons during his eagerly anticipated post-expulsion interview with Ziwe.
To the extent that anything “news-y” came out of the 18-minute “exposé,” you could maybe look to Santos’ insistence of rampant fraud in the halls of Congress. “If you were to put them all under the same scrutiny I was put under, you’d fucking vacate the whole goddamn building,” he said.

Ziwe has found her latest iconic guest: George Santos.
After teasing a collab with the expelled congressman, comedian and celebrity interviewer Ziwe released her sit-down interview with Santos on YouTube on Monday morning.
Ziwe’s “Znn” interview, a CNN spoof with her own Ziwe News Network, began with onscreen text saying “No congressman were paid in the making of this interview even though George asked three times.” She then listed civil rights icons and asked Santos to say what they meant to him. The list included Marsha P. Johnson, James Baldwin, Harvey Milk and Bowen Yang’s “SNL” impression of Santos — which he said deserves an Egot.
When asked if he would want Yang to play him in HBO’s movie about him, Santos said “that movie is not ever going to happen. That book has no perspective of me or anybody close to me. It’s fucking fiction,” referring...

Rep. George Santos (R., N.Y.), who faces federal fraud charges tied to his 2022 campaign, survived a vote Wednesday to expel him from the House.
The resolution failed to gain the required two-thirds vote, with most Republicans and more than 30 Democrats voting against ousting Santos. The final vote was 179 for expulsion and 213 against.
In an unexpected move ahead of the vote, the Long Island congressman yielded a few minutes of his floor time to fellow New York Rep. Dan Goldman (D). Goldman, who called for his ousting in May alongside other House Democrats,...

Donald Trump’s attorney John Lauro has made some wild claims to defend his client, the latest of which is that America had a “peaceful transition of power” from Trump to Biden — ignoring the violence at the Capitol on Jan. 6.
Trump “took what he was entitled to do,” Lauro told Chuck Todd in a Sunday interview on Meet the Press, “which was petition Vice President Pence on Jan. 6.”
“Once that petition was completed and Vice President Pence rejected his position, it was over and there was a peaceful transition of power,...

Donald Trump got indicted again on Tuesday and, once again, it’s all pretty damning.
The former president is accused of perpetrating an illegal scheme to circumvent the democratic process and stay in power despite losing the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden, leading to, as Special Counsel Jack Smith described it, “an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy.”
Trump’s lawyers, allies in Congress, and propagandists across right-wing media, however, want you to believe he was indicted merely for voicing concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

On Wednesday, Republicans in the House of Representatives voted to censure Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) over his role in the Russia investigation, and the first impeachment of former president Donald Trump.
The vote passed on a party-line vote of 213-209. As House Speaker Kevin McCarthy took up the gavel to read out the censure, Democrats repeatedly booed, interrupted, and chanted over McCarthy.

Police departments in major cities have issued alerts regarding a potential national “Day of Hate” against Jewish people and institutions. Neo-Nazi and white nationalist groups on social media are reportedly calling upon followers to engage in vandalism and spread antisemitic propaganda on Saturday.
An analysis of social media activity by the Counter Extremism Project (Cep) found that the call to action stemmed from accounts associated with the National Socialist Movement, and three regional extremist groups based in Iowa, New York, and California.

Dan Goldman was sitting at his laptop in his makeshift New York office in December when he determined George Santos, his fellow New York congressman-elect, was a fraud.
The first clue was the income differences between Santos’ financial disclosures. How had he earned roughly 55,000 in 2020, then 750,000 — “a nice round number,” as Goldman put it — in 2022? Santos didn’t list any clients for his company — a company that had been shut down by authorities in Florida for failing to file an annual statement. The biggest tell was that the company’s supposed assets.
