Constantine, Season 1, Episode 7 : “Blessed Are the Damned”
Written by Sneho Koorse
Directed by Nick Gomez
Airs Fridays at 10 pm Et on NBC
So far, the world of Constantine has mostly been filled with frightening demons, cursed objects, and people working under their thrall. “Blessed Are the Damned” looks at the lighter side of the equation, but this episode might be the scariest one yet. Zachary (Patrick Carroll), the pastor of a struggling church, gets healing powers when he is lethally bitten by a rattlesnake while trying one of his father’s old snake-handling routines. This leads to him becoming a popular cult figure. What seems to be yet another exposé about religious fundamentalism becomes an in-depth look at faith, doubt, and free-will, with many trademark John Constantine wisecracks, written by Sneho Koorse and delivered with aplomb by Matt Ryan, in the funniest episode of Constantine so far. After taking last week off,...

Stars: Christina Ricci, Clea DuVall, Gregg Henry, Stephen McHattie, Shawn Doyle, Sara Botsford, Hannah Anderson, Andrea Runge, Billy Campbell | Written by Stephen Kay | Directed by Nick Gomez
Massachusetts director Nick Gomez (Drowning Mona) is more used to working on television shows than feature films and it shows in Lizzie Borden Took an Axe, a Lifetime television movie based on the life of Lizzie Borden.
Christina Ricci is an actress I enjoy sometimes, but her performances range from good to poor depending on the movie she is in, and sadly this is not one of her better roles. The cast isn’t a bad one, with Clea Duvall appearing as Lizzie’s sister, Emma Borden. It just all feels very forced, which is a shame because the tale is one that, with better casting, a deeper budget, more delicate writing and a steadier director’s hand, could be very good indeed.

Lizzie Borden Took An Ax, the latest made-for-tv movie churned out by Lifetime, stars Christina Ricci in the titular role of the young woman who may have slaughtered her father and stepmother in cold blood.
Lizzie Borden Biopic Airs On Lifetime
Ricci, as critics point out, is at home in the role of Borden – channeling both unnervingly calm psychosis as well as believable innocence when it’s called for. Clea Duvall (21 Grams, Girl Interrupted) also shines as Borden’s sister, who reluctantly chooses to believe Lizzie’s assurances that she's not guilty.
Lifetime chose to give the legendary, true story of Lizzie Borden a makeover, eschewing facts in favor of adding more drama to an already unbelievable truth. The result, according to critics, is something that resembles camp – but not of the enjoyable variety one generally seeks out on Lifetime.

The Blacklist, Season 1, Episode 5, ‘The Courier”
Written by John C. Kelley
Directed by Nick Gomez
Airs Mondays at 10pm Et on NBC
At its core, James Spader is the driving force of The Blacklist. Spader is an extremely talented actor, but he is not enough to keep the show interesting week-to-week. What will, however, is the involvement of villains that are at least intriguing as Reddington working in conjunction with Spader. Last week’s “The Stewmaker” showed this and “The Courier” demonstrates it even further.
“The Courier” continues the creepy serial killer vibe from “The Stewmaker” with this week’s Blacklister, The Courier (Prison Break‘s Robert Knepper), dumping a man, still alive, into an open casket. Elsewhere, Keen (Megan Boone) continues to struggle with the identity of her husband, Tom (Ryan Eggold) and how she’ll ever confront him about it. Red (James Spader) meets with an unknown associate...

Billy Campbell and Clea Duvall are set to co-star opposite Christina Ricci in Lifetime’s movie about one of the most famous murder trials in American history. Directed by Nick Gomez and produced by Sony Pictures Television, the film tells the story of Fall River, Mass., resident Lizzie Borden (Ricci), who finds herself on trial for the brutal axe murders of her father, Andrew Jackson Borden, and his second wife, Abby Durfee Gray Borden, at their family home. Female killers are all over the news lately, and adding that to the public's insatiable curiosity about whether Lizzie Borden really took an axe and gave her father 40 whacks, it's no surprise a new biopic is on its way about the notorious Fall River, Ma, resident.
Per the Wrap, Lifetime has signed Christina Ricci to star in its upcoming film about Borden, who was ultimately acquitted of killing her father and stepmother in the late 1800s. No writer has been selected yet, but Nick Gomez (Drowning Mona, "Burn Notice") is directing with Sony Pictures Television producing. Judith Verno will executive produce.
A few years back HBO had a miniseries in the works about the Borden case starring Chloe Sevigny, but we haven't heard much about it lately. We'll keep our ears open for more on both of these projects and let you know which one will be hitting the airwaves first.

Long before Amanda Knox, Casey Anthony and Jodi Arias, there was another young American woman on a trial for murder that became a media spectacle. I’ve learned exclusively that Christina Ricci has been tapped to play Lizzie Borden in a Lifetime original movie about the woman tried and acquitted in the 1892 ax murders of her father and stepmother. Directed by Nick Gomez and produced by Sony Pictures Television, the movie tells the story of Fall River, Mass., resident Borden, who finds herself on trial for the brutal murder with a hatchet-type weapon of her father, Andrew Jackson Borden, and his second wife, Abby Durfee Gray Borden, at their family home. She was acquitted at a trial, which drew national attention, though no one else was ever charged with the crime, which has remained unsolved. Despite being found guilty in the court of public opinion in her native town, at least in some circles,...
