Kanye West has 24 Grammys total, making him the most awarded rapper in the awards’ history (tied with Jay-Z). Seven of West’s albums have won Grammys, and he has additional prizes from standalone singles, features, and production work behind the scenes. His last studio album, “Donda,” got four nominations including Album of the Year, and won twice in rap categories. With such an impressive track record over the span of two decades, one might simply assume he’s likely to be nominated for his new album with Ty Dolla $ign, “Vultures 1,” which has been doing great on the charts. However, “Vultures 1” comes after West’s public backlash due to antisemitic remarks, which doesn’t seem to have ended his career, but still looms over him.

It was a clean sweep for Taylor Swift at the 2024 Gold Derby Music Awards. She came into our fourth annual event with nine nominations and walked away with nine victories including Artist of the Year for the fourth year in a row. Watch the announcement video above for winners in all categories, and scroll down for the complete list.
In the history of the GDMAs thus far, Swift is the only artist who has won Artist of the Year. She’s also the only artist who has won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. But her Album of the Year victory for “Midnights” is only her second in that race. She previously won in 2021 for “Folklore,” but Lana Del Rey claimed that honor in 2022 for “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” and Beyonce prevailed in 2023 for “Renaissance.”

Kim Petras stans, it’s finally here. On Monday, the singer surprise-released her originally-scrapped, partially-leaked album, Problématique.
The 10-track LP features songs such as “Born Again,” “Something About U,” “Dirty Things,” and “All She Wants” featuring Paris Hilton. All of the songs are co-produced by Dr. Luke, Aaron Joseph, and Vaughn Oliver.
“It was shocking when I found out part of the album leaked — at the time — that it wasn’t ever going to come out, especially as I poured so much of myself into it,” Petras said in a statement via the Associated Press.

In July 2014, the songwriter, producer, and mogul Lukasz Gottwald, a.k.a. Dr. Luke, paced the halls of one of his favorite workplaces, Conway Studios in Hollywood, and mused about thriving under pressure. The way he saw it, he faced more of it as a behind-the-scenes hitmaker than artists do. “I always hear artists talk about that,” Gottwald said, in a previously unpublished segment of a Rolling Stone interview, at a moment when the 10-year hot streak that began for him with Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” was...

“Business is business,” Young Thug says at the tail end of “Parade on Cleveland,” the opening track to his third studio album. Over a particularly hard-hitting 808, the Atlanta rapper proceeds to parrot the phrase 19 more times in under 20 seconds, turning a potentially prosaic statement into a thrilling declaration of intent.
Despite Young Thug’s continuing legal issues, when it comes to spitting wackadoodle lyrics set to quirky trap beats, it’s still business as usual for the Mc. While Business Is Business’s foreboding black-and-white cover art acknowledges Young Thug’s current incarceration upfront, and “Parade on Cleveland” features a voice message from the rapper calling in from a Cobb County detention facility, nearly all of the material on the album was recorded before his 2022 imprisonment. This is made exceedingly clear on the jangly “Cars Bring Me Out,” which includes a dated reference to pandemic side hustles.

Kesha and her former producer Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwald) have reached a settlement after almost a decade. This comes less than a month before the case was scheduled to go to trial.
The agreement marks the end of a legal dispute that began in October 2014 after Kesha alleged that Dr. Luke drugged and sexually assaulted her in 2005. Dr. Luke asserted the claim was false and sued Kesha for defamation and breaking her contract when she said she wanted to leave Dr. Luke’s label, Kemosabe Records.
On Thursday, Kesha shared the legal statements from both sides regarding the resolution. Kesha wrote, “Only God knows what happened that night. As I have always said, I cannot recount everything that happened. I am looking forward to closing the door on this chapter of my life and beginning a new one. I wish nothing but peace to all parties involved.”

“Everything I drop is a banger,” Kim Petras declares on “Uhoh,” a filter house-influenced track from her long-awaited debut studio album, Feed the Beast. And, for the most part, she delivers on that promise. From the verse to the pre-chorus to the instrumental drop and chopped-up vocal bridge, the song—which was produced by Ian Kirkpatrick, the knob-twirler behind Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now”—is stacked with hooks.
Much of the rest of Feed the Beast follows suit, including the Dr. Luke-helmed “Revelations,” which channels ’80s post-disco, complete with squelchy electric guitar solo, and the breezy “Coconuts,” a cheeky, pun-filled ode to Petras’s “margari-tatas.” Elsewhere, lead single “Alone” is built around a sample of Alice Deejay’s infectious “Better Off Alone,” though it leans too heavily on that late-’90s club hit’s synth hook to make much of a distinct impression of its own.

Producer and songwriter “Dr. Luke” has dropped a defamation lawsuit against the singer Kesha, a former protégée who had accused him of rape in a 2014 lawsuit. That ends a dispute that lasted nearly a decade and damaged both careers.
A statement posted to both parties’ social media accounts said the two “agreed to a joint resolution of the lawsuit.” The settlement comes before a trial that would have started next month.
Quotes attributed to Kesha and Dr. Luke were presented together on social media. The 30-year-old Chicago rapper has steadily gathered momentum ever since he signed with Def Jam in 2013. Pop singer-songwriter Kesha is back with her fifth studio album, “Gag Order,” which comes three years after her last effort, 2020’s “High Road.” It was released on Friday, May 19, and the early reviews have been highly favorable, adding up to a MetaCritic score of 82 as of this writing. What do you think of the collection?
If her score holds at 82, it would outdo the 81 she received for 2017’s “Rainbow,” her comeback album following a protracted legal battle over her accusations of sexual assault against her former producer Dr. Luke (“Gag Order” is the last album she will release under contract with his label). But it must be noted that the 81 for “Rainbow” was based on 27 reviews, while only five have come in for “Gag Order” as of this writing.

Kesha has shared her new album Gag Order. The fifth studio LP from the singer includes the previously-released singles “Eat the Acid,” “Fine Line,” and “Only Love Can Save Us Now.”
Kesha executive produced Gag Order alongside Rick Rubin, the legendary Def Jam co-founder and boardsman behind albums by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beastie Boys. In a statement, the artist described the “post-pop” record as the result of facing her emotional darkness head-on.
“Without the darkness there is no light. So I let my darkness have the light. I can’t fight the truth. Life is difficult and painful. It is for everyone,” Kesha said. “An artist doesn’t exist to make others happy. I believe an artist gives voice, motion, color to the emotions we all have. The good emotions, and the unmanageably fucking miserable ones.”

Lil Durk has landed a guest feature from J. Cole on “All My Life,” a motivational track from the Chicago rapper’s upcoming album, Almost Healed.
Produced by Dr. Luke, “All My Life” features a children’s choir as Durk looks back at surviving against all odds. “You can’t blame my past no more, I come from the trenches/ Some said I’d never be a superstar, but I know I’m different,” he spits, before rapping about “tryna better my health.”
On the second verse, Cole addresses rappers dying too young (“I never even heard of lil’ buddy/ ‘Til somebody murdered lil’ buddy”) before blasting the media for sensationalizing their deaths: “And media thirsty for clicks/ I got a new rule/ If you ain’t never posted a rapper when he was alive/ You can’t post about him after he get hit.”

In Hollywood, it’s not uncommon for singers to try their hand at acting. From Madonna to Beyoncé, the music industry is filled with artists who have attempted to leap to the big screen. But many were skeptical when Kesha announced that she was making her acting debut.
After all, the singer is known for her high-energy performances and bold, unapologetic personality – qualities that don’t necessarily translate to the world of acting. However, the “Tik Tok” singer surprised everyone with her impressive acting skills, proving she’s much more than just a musician.

Kesha has released a pair of new songs, “Eat the Acid” and “Fine Line,” from her upcoming album, Gag Order, out May 19.
“Fine Line” is a deceptively atmospheric track that eschews percussion but pulls plenty of energy from its bruising synths and Kesha’s vocals, which build from a whisper to a snarl. “The years keep dragging, I’m at the end of my rope,” she sings, “The noose gets tighter and tighter, I’m tasting blood in my throat/Don’t fucking call me a fighter, don’t fucking...

Kesha has released “Eat the Acid” and “Fine Line,” the first singles from her new album, Gag Order. Listen to the new songs below.
With candid lyrics speaking to Kesha’s difficult and public struggles (especially alluding to her ongoing legal battle with producer Dr. Luke), the singles paint an emotional portrait of the 36-year-old singer. “Eat the Acid” builds to a haunting climax with the lyrics: “You said don’t ever eat the acid/ If you don’t want to be changed like you changed me/ You said all the edges got so jagged/ Now everything you saw then can’t be unseen.”
Likewise, “Fine Line” grapples with the difficult recovery from pain and abuse. “Don’t be surprised if shit gets ugly,” Kesha sings, “All the doctors and lawyers that cut the tongue out of my mouth/ I’ve been hiding my anger, but bitch, look at me...

The Drama League today announced the nominations for the 2023 Drama League Awards. Honoring achievements on and Off-Broadway, the nominations were announced this morning by Roger Bart (“Back to the Future: The Musical”) and Justin Guarini (“Once Upon A One More Time”) at the New York Library for the Performing Arts. Winners will be revealed at the 89th Annual Drama League Awards ceremony at the Ziegfeld Ballroom on Friday, May 19, 2023.
“I don’t think I’ve experienced a theater season in New York ever like this one,” noted Artistic Director Gabriel Stelian-Shanks. “There’s been a range, a breadth, an expansion of possibility that has been truly astonishing to witness. Theater makers have inspired not only with their creativity, but also with their drive and determination to serve audiences with vision and talent. These nominees reflect the promise and greatness inherent in the work of theater folk, and I can’t help but be deeply proud.

The pop categories at the Grammys honor some of the biggest successes of the year, often being one of the most star-studded of all. With the likes of BTS, Sam Smith, Doja Cat and Ed Sheeran all in the mix this year, let’s take a look at who’s likely winning Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
This category is up in the air, but it might be easier to call than Best Pop Solo Performance. Camila Cabello and Ed Sheeran’s “Bam Bam” should just be happy to be nominated here. Likely, with how badly he typically performs at the Grammys (he’s often nominated but has never won), I wouldn’t bet too much on Post Malone’s “I Like You (A Happier Song)” featuring Doja Cat here either. This means that the category could go one of three ways. One possibility is that voters go for Abba...

Dr. Luke’s long-running defamation lawsuit against Kesha is finally going to trial. On Monday, a New York judge set a July 26 trial date for the case.
The eight-year-old case previously had a trial date set for late February, but Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Jennifer G. Schecter said at a hearing last month there was “no way” she could “envision a scenario” where Kesha’s pending pre-trial appeals would be decided in time.
Jury selection is now set to begin July 19, 2023, the judge ruled.

After almost a decade, the legal fight between pop singer Kesha and producer Dr. Luke is headed to trial in New York next summer, a judge said Friday.
Manhattan Judge Jennifer Schecter said jury selection could start in either late June or early July, asking the two sides to choose and let her know. She broached the dates at the end of a hearing that worked through some of the legal issues and arguments that need to be resolved before the trial can start.
The “TiK ToK” singer and the Grammy-nominated hitmaker sued each other in 2014.
She alleged that he drugged and raped her in 2005 and emotionally abused her for years. He accused her of defaming him, saying she fabricated her claims to try to get out of her record contract.

Pop singer Kesha has accused Dr Luke of slowing down the court proceedings on his defamation case against her.
Lukasz Gottwald, aka Dr Luke, is an Amercian record producer who signed a six-album record deal with Kesha when she was 18.
In October 2014, Dr Luke filed a lawsuit against Kesha in New York, accusing the singer of defamation while trying to win a better recording deal.
Kesha also filed a case against the producer on the same day in LA, which alleged that Dr Luke sexually abused her over a 10-year period. However, when Kesha attempted to move her case to New York, her claims were dismissed due to how much time had passed.
In a letter from Kesha’s lawyer Leah Godesky to Court Judge Jennifer G Schecter in Manhattan Supreme Court, it is alleged that Dr Luke is delaying the case by rejecting Kesha’s attempts to speed up her pre-trial appeals.

Kesha Accuses Dr. Luke of Stalling Defamation Case, Says She’s ‘Eager’ to Face Him in February Trial
Kesha says she’s “more than eager” to face Dr. Luke at a February 2023 defamation trial in New York and is accusing the music producer of jeopardizing the scheduled showdown by rejecting her repeated attempts to speed up her pre-trial appeals.
In a new sharply worded letter to a New York judge filed Tuesday and obtained by Rolling Stone, the “Tik Tok” singer and her lawyer argue there’s no way the upcoming trial can proceed until her two pending appeals are resolved. With that as the backdrop, they claim Dr.

Two years ago, Mobile, Alabama rapper Flo Milli dazzled listeners with her bubbly cadence and dexterous flows on her debut mixtape, Ho, Why Is You Here? Her debut album, You Still Here, Ho?, brings more of the same. There are a few important upgrades: the rapper lands cameos from the likes of Rico Nasty and Babyface Ray. Hilariously, the biggest guest appearance may be Tiffany “New York” Pollard, a breakout star from VH1’s late Aughts “celebreality” slate. She introduces Flo Milli with typical insouciance: “Just look at the material.

A New York State appeals court has “unanimously reversed” a lower court’s June 2021 decision saying Kesha could make Dr. Luke pay her legal fees if his defamation claims against her fail.
The decision, issued Thursday, finds that a new 2020 law designed to curb litigation from wealthy plaintiffs trying to intimidate critics cannot apply retroactively to Dr. Luke’s lawsuit against the “Tik Tok” singer. That means even if Kesha prevails in the long-running case, she can’t make Dr. Luke cover her presumably expensive legal defense bills.
