Exclusive: Jet-set, celebrity artist Domingo Zapata will direct an adaptation of his 2017 semi-autobiographical novel The Beautiful Dream of Life.
Veteran producers Cary Granat and Ed Jones have signed on to produce the feature adaptation.
In an innovative move, the production will feature 18 pieces of original artwork by Zapata that will be sold as Fine Art pieces and NFTs.
Last year, Zapata’s work Mona Lisa Bull Fighter sold for a personal £1 million record at a charity auction in St. Barts, in which Leonardo DiCaprio was reportedly outbid.
Spanish-born, New York-based painter Zapata is known for his lavish lifestyle, film star girlfriends and celebrity collectors, such as DiCaprio, Johnny Depp and George Soros.
He has travelled to Cannes for the final days of the film festival to help launch the project and also attend the world premiere of Ken Loach’s Palme d’Or contender The Old Oak on Friday evening.

Exclusive: The stock markets are closed today in observance of Good Friday, but a new “decentralized finance” venture is heating up the digital investment community heading into Easter Weekend.
An investment arm of Immersive Artistry, whose CEO is onetime Dimension Films and Walden Media exec Cary Granat, has teamed with digital assets and payments firm Gebo Group. Their setup, Starport, has already raised $40 million and predict they will end up north of $50 million by Sunday. The proceeds, which take the form of digital tokens, will fund the new entity’s effort to bridge traditional finance and the emerging realms of blockchain and cryptocurrency.
The usual venture capital firms and blue-chip investors found in startup announcements are not in evidence with Starport’s beta round. Serge Pustelnik, Co-Managing Partner, Starport and Gebo Group, characterized it as “anti-vc” in an interview with Deadline. A follow-on opportunity for investors is planned after a 12-hour “cooling-off” period.

Sophie Turner, a.k.a. the Queen in the North, is back in the cold in Quibi’s first teaser for its upcoming thriller “Survive” — only this time the “Game of Thrones” alum isn’t fighting White Walkers to stay alive, but the frigid conditions she’s found herself in after a plane crash.
In the 52-second clip, which you can view above, Turner’s character Jane is flying home after a stint in a treatment center where she appears to have been recovering from something (note the group-therapy session and pill bottles) but we don’t know what, and we don’t have time to find out, seeing as that aircraft doesn’t make it to its final destination.
Now Jane and Paul (Corey Hawkins), the only two passengers to live through the crash, are “totally screwed” and need to find a way to live through the horrifying situation they’ve found themselves in.

Get excited, Game of Thrones fans, because Sophie Turner has hung up her Queen Sansa crown and booked her first series since wrapping the hit HBO series. Survive, which will premiere on Quibi, is based on a novel of the same name by Alex Morel and follows the story of two plane crash survivors, Jane (Turner) and Paul (BlacKkKlansman's Corey Hawkins), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"I only hope this can impact anyone struggling with self-worth to understand they are braver than they know."
The series will focus on Jane and Paul's journey through the wilderness after digging themselves out from the wreckage of the crash site, where they'll face brutal conditions and have to deal with their own personal traumas. "I couldn't be more honored to portray the role of Jane in Survive for Quibi," Turner said Monday in a statement. "She's a complex character fighting against the odds...

As we’ve been reporting, Syfy had its Upfront presentation to potential advertisers Wednesday night, and they spent yesterday issuing press releases. It’s a good thing they held the event at a pier, as there is a boatload of information included in the summary press release below. We made sure to get it posted before the weekend, since it will take you the entire weekend to absorb it all.
Some of it is information we’ve already posted, like the Ringworld and Childhood’s End development and the High Moon pilot production, some of it we posted about fairly recently, like Ronald D. Moore‘s Helix, some of it we haven’t heard about in quite some time, like Orion, Proof, and Dominion, and some, like the nonscripted shows, the anthology, and some of the projects announced, are news to us.
You’ll also see ratings info and other...

Second in order of excitement generated, at least for me, by last night’s Syfy Upfront was news about Bryan Fuller‘s (Mockingbird Lane, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me) proposed series High Moon. Although the project was also included in Syfy‘s 2012 Upfront, the synopsis is somewhat longer, and they’ve actually identified the studio, Universal Cable Productions, which makes it practically in-house. All positive steps!

Over the past year, Syfy has been quietly amassing a slate of space/alien drama projects with the goal of launching a new series in the genre that has felt a void after the end of Battlestar Galactica. The effort started in February 2012 with the decision to develop a series adaptation of the 2010 supernatural Sony movie Legion with the film’s director Scott Stewart. The network went on to take in Georgeville TV’s adaptation of British classic Blake’s 7, Bryan Fuller’s High Noon and several other projects. Today, High Noon was ordered to pilot, with several other space projects remaining in development. Danny DeVito is set to direct the indie comedy "Honeymoon With Dad" at Tapestry Films and Reel FX Creative Studios reports Variety.
The story follows an accountant who, after being left at the altar, winds up going on his would-be honeymoon with his estranged and larger-than-life father. Scott Atkinson and Tegan West penned the script.
It's not certain whether DeVito is interested in also starring in the project, but it is possible. Shooting will take place during DeVito's next hiatus from his work on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". Michael Schreiber, Peter Abrams, Cary Granat and Jared Mass will produce.

As if the guy didn’t already have enough on his plate, we can now add one more movie to our favourite Mexican auteur’s ever growing pile. Director of the modern fantasy classic Pans Labyrinth and the Hellboy Series: Guillermo Del Toro has recently signed on to produce an upcoming CG-animated feature ‘Day Of The Dead’.
At first glance the title may be a bit confusing but let me clarify something: This is not a remake of George Romero’s Day Of The Dead and contains no connection to his zombie franchise or zombies at all it seems;
The story is “an action-packed, fully CG-animated picture, with a “Romeo and Juliet” style love story set against a Mexican “Day of the Dead” backdrop”.
Setup at Reel FX, the project will be directed by Emmy Award Winner Jorge R. Gutierrez best known for Nickelodeons El Tigre, The Adventures of Manny Rivera.

The filmmaker behind Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, and the upcoming monster epic Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro is attached to produce a new animated horror film with Reel FX called Day of the Dead. The movie will be CG animated, and Emmy Award winner Jorge R. Gutierrez (El Tigre, The Adventures of Manny Rivera) will be directing the movie which he is also co-writing with Doug Langdale.
According to the press released "The film is an action-packed, fully CG-animated picture, with a 'Romeo and Juliet' style love story set against a Mexican 'Day of the Dead' backdrop. It represents the first time in almost twenty years -- since 1993's Cronos -- that del Toro has collaborated on a feature project set in Mexico. With his latest film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island 3D hitting theaters in mid February, director Brad Peyton isn’t wasting any time setting up his latest project. According to Variety, the relatively new-to-Hollywood director has just sold the pitch Invasion to Cary Granat‘s Reel FX banner.
Peyton is set to produce the project, as well as direct the script written by J. Daniel Shaffer — his only other writing credits include Breyton Ave, which actually made 2011′s Black List (here’s a link to the entire list). Andrew Adamson will produce under his Strange Weather Films title.
Shaffer‘s script “revolves around a group of unarmed, unprepared students from Philadelphia who discover they’ll have to become soldiers to survive an attack from a supernatural force.” If you’re getting déjà vu back to 2008 and a certain Matt Reeves directed horror/sci-fi/mystery film, that’s because Invasion has...

Further to our story in 2010, Paramount Pictures has now acquired worldwide distribution rights to the first James Cameron-produced "Cirque du Soleil" 3D feature film, "Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away", featuring performances from various "Cirque" productions, written and directed by Andrew Adamson ("Shrek").
Cameron produces with Adamson, Aron Warner and Cirque’s Martin Bolduc, Ed Jones and Cary Granat.

You’ll have to forgive my insolence, but the James Cameron-produced, Andrew Adamson-directed 3D Cirque du Soleil film slipped from my mind over the past 13 months. Though I was reminded of it in a pretty positive way (or, as positively as one could take this news): A press release tells us that Paramount has acquired the project, titled Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away.
We aren’t told anything about the story, actors, or wacky contortions in this announcement, but we can nevertheless expect “a truly amazing moviegoeing experience for audiences of all ages.” Even without that information at hand, I’m pretty confident in saying this is a project I’ll only lend some attention toward — primarily because of Cameron‘s technical work in the 3D department. A new movie from the director of Shrek and Narnia just isn’t in my wheelhouse of interest.

James Cameron likes to work with the biggest possible canvas in whatever narrative mode he's in, as evidenced by the expanding scope of his Terminator films, then movies like Titanic and Avatar. As far as physical performance goes, you don't get much bigger than Cirque Du Soleil (as far as name recognition goes, at least) and so Cameron working with the company seems pretty natural. You might remember that James Cameron was working as producer and 3D consultant on a filmed Cirque Du Soleil feature that Andrew Adamson (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia) was writing and directing. We first heard about this [1] way back in December of 2010, and news has been quiet on the project since then. Now there is some new info, primarily that Paramount has picked up worldwide rights to the film. The studio press release is below. The info that isn't in the press release is that...
