One of the most beloved characters on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" is Spike, a punk rock vampire who falls in love with the Slayer he set out to kill. Spike was a hugely charismatic force and, despite series creator Joss Whedon's best efforts, he quickly became a romantic character. The British bad-boy was supposed to be killed off immediately, but he became such a fan favorite that the writers had to figure out what to do with him for the rest of the series. The audience loved Spike because he wasn't just a misfit among misfits — he owned it. From his slick-back blond hair to his leather trench coat, Spike was everyone's favorite outcast.
James Marsters was originally only supposed to play Spike for 5 episodes, the actor explained in a 2012 interview. Keeping the punk rock vamp in the series challenged the central message of the show, so the series...

One of the things that made "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" so addictive was the forbidden romance with the vampire Angel. He is a bad-boy-turned-good, a very handsome demon who was cursed with a soul that made him into a noble warrior for good guys — unless, of course, he experiences one moment of true happiness.
The character was such a major part of the show that he even earned his own spin-off, "Angel." More importantly, he provided the first romantic counterpart for "Buffy," and what's a teen soap without some romance? But he wasn't just any boyfriend — he was mysterious, he was dangerous, and he was a part of her demonic world. However, Angel did present one major problem: he challenged the central metaphor of the series. In fact, series creator Joss Whedon didn't even want him in the show at first.

“God Is Now Here”: Revisiting Matt Reeves’ Paranormal Procedural “Miracles” for Its 20th Anniversary
Matt Reeves set the tone for Miracles, a supernatural and spiritual procedural series that’s full of the director’s trademark touches.
“What’s the point of faith if it’s never tested?”
“I’m beginning to think that we’re on our own down here…”
Matt Reeves has comfortably made a name for himself as not only one of horror and science fiction’s biggest filmmakers, but he’s gone on to become the guiding force behind the latest iteration of the cinematic Batman universe. Reeves’ directorial career has been allowed to thrive the most in film, but he has a history in television and was even the co-creator of Felicity alongside J.J. Abrams. Reeves has directed episodes of Felicity, Homicide: Life on the Street, and Gideon’s Crossing, but one of his most rewarding TV efforts is his direction for the pilot for Miracles, a short-lived supernatural procedural that...

Warning: contains spoilers for Inside No. 9 ‘The Harrowing’
“It was ‘Wtf!? Oh my God! I’m not going to sleep! Why did you do that to me?!’” The moment the credits rolled on Inside No. 9’s series one finale ‘The Harrowing’, director David Kerr was deluged with messages. “People were very responsive,” he laughs. “We’d gone for something bold that was properly horrible and would haunt them. There’s not much out there that scares a horror fan because they’ve seen it all so many times. That’s the challenge. You want to hit people with a visceral, palpable gut punch that they didn’t see coming.”
Job done. The final shot of 2014’s ‘The Harrowing’ is truly deserving of the episode’s title. A schoolgirl, stripped, bound to a chair, gagged and anesthetised, whimpers in terror as the filthy curtains surrounding a four-poster bed begin to part.

Restless centers on homicide detective Adam Chaco. The first incarnation of Buffy spinoff series, Angel, was too dark for Warner Bros., according to its creators.
Angel is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year (yikes we're old) and to celebrate, Entertainment Weekly has put together a reuinion issue looking back at the series and gathering together the core cast to chat about making the vampire detective show, and its legacy.

It's hard to believe it, but The WB's Angel concluded 15 years ago.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff lasted five seasons after premiering in October 1999.
Thankfully, Entertainment Weekly rounded up the cast and creators of the series, and there were a lot of topics discussed.
David Boreanaz, Charisma Carpenter, J. August Richards, James Marsters, Amy Acker, and Alexis Denisof gathered with series creators Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt.
Boreanaz revealed during the sitdown that he thought he was getting fired from Buffy when he was pulled in to the first meeting about the potential spinoff.

After the massive success of Airplane! (1980), the horror world decided to try spoofing the hand that feeds; in short order we were dealt Saturday the 14th, Student Bodies, National Lampoon’s Class Reunion, and Pandemonium (all from ’81 to ’82). Mileage may vary of course; comedy is completely subjective—you either laugh or you don’t. Needless to say, there are moments from each of these films that I find entertaining; from smiles to chuckles and sometimes even a laugh or two. But there is another film that no one seems to talk up much, and that’s Greydon Clark’s Wacko (1982). As uneven as the rest, it nevertheless boasts an impressive cast and an energy that wins you over; and now that Vinegar Syndrome has released it on a solid Blu-ray, you can enjoy every groan, titter, eye roll, and yes, laugh, in the privacy of your own home.
The story of Wacko is quite simple,...

“Iron Fist” and The CW’s “Beauty and the Beast” scribe Melissa Glenn will write and executive produce the drama, which has received a script sale from the broadcaster, with original series co-creators David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf serving as consulting producers if the show is picked up to series.
The spinoff hails from Og “Grimm” studio Universal Television in association with executive producers Todd Milliner and Sean Hayes’ Hazy Mills, who both served as EPs on the original series.

Grimm is eying a comeback. NBC is developing a spinoff from the supernatural series, which bowed out last year after six seasons. Like the original, the offshoot hails from Universal TV and Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner’s studio-based Hazy Mills Prods.
Written by Melissa Glenn (Marvel’s Iron Fist), the untitled spinoff, I hear, will center on a female Grimm. Per NBC, building off the mythology of the original series, the new show will feature returning fan favorites while also introducing new characters, new dangers and epic new mysteries. I hear no actors are currently attached but the idea is for the offshoot to feature some original cast members, regular or recurring.

One of TV’s seminal gone-too-soon dramas could be back-after-a-long-while.
Adrian Pasdar told TVLine that a “reboot” of Profit — which was famously pulled from Fox’s schedule after just four airings in April 1996 — is being developed by director/producer Tawnia McKiernan, daughter of Stephen J. Cannell (an Ep on the original series).
A rep for McKiernan did not respond to TVLine’s requests for comment on the status of the project.
“The time is right,” Pasdar said during a recent interview, reflecting on his title role as a ruthless businessman who preceded such TV antiheroes as Tony Soprano, Dexter Morgan and Walter White.

Sneak Peek footage from the "Buffy The Vampire Slayer", Season 1 episode "Angel", written by David Greenwalt and directed by Scott Brazil, that aired April 14, 1997 on The WB:
"...'Buffy Summers'(Sarah Michelle Gellar) has just moved to 'Sunnydale' after burning down her old school's gym to escape her 'vampire slayer' duties. Her plans are complicated by 'Rupert Giles' (Anthony Head), her new 'Watcher', who reminds her of the presence of evil.
"'Sunnydale High' is built atop a 'Hellmouth', a portal to demon dimensions that attracts supernatural phenomena to the area.
"Buffy meets two schoolmates, 'Xander Harris' (Nicholas Brendon) and 'Willow Rosenberg' (Alyson Hannigan) who help her fight evil through the series.
"She also gets a love interest in the form of 'Angel' (David Boreanz) a vampire with a soul.
"Together they are the 'Scoobies', and must prevent 'The Master' (Mark Metcalf), an ancient vampire, from opening the Hellmouth and taking over Sunnydale.

Well, we’ve come to end of the fairy-tale, folks. The last ever episode of Grimm delivered love, death, redemption and what every good fairy story needs – a happy ending.
Along with the obvious monsters and myths, there are some themes that have always run through the series, such as family, and in particular, strong women. The final episode was no different, and when Nick is in danger of making a very bad decision, it is the women in his life who step in to show him the way, and ultimately ensuring that goods wins out over evil.

A prolific screenwriter who emerged from the late 1970s as a promising American film director, Lewis John Carlino wouldn’t get behind the camera following his third, and least successfully received feature, Class (1983), an item which, in passing, looks to have the stamp of John Hughes and the Brat Pack all over it. Aggravating in its considerable inconsistencies, this was the director’s first attempt to film a treatment he didn’t write or adapt himself, scripted by Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt (both writers who would move into mainstream film and television). The result is a rather wishy-washy prep school version of The Graduate, but the comparison is merely a pale echo, trapped inside a banal resolution with troubling misogynist tendencies.
