Haunted paintings have a long history in horror cinema and literature, but this Gothic tale sees début director Simon Ross, working from a script by David Griffiths (who wrote William Friedkin’s The Hunted), take the idea in a different direction. Here the painting is both a force in itself and a metaphor for what is left behind when a person’s body remains but the mind which once inhabited it is gone.
Alex Debose (Ryan Kwanten) is such a man. A little way into the film, through which he drifts on autopilot, guided by wife Sofia (Natalia Cordova-Buckley), we learn that he has suffered an accident, leaving him with brain damage which doctors believe to be permanent. The accident occurred when the couple were arguing, adding to Sofia’s burden of guilt. Friends and strangers alike advise her that she needs to let go and allow him to be cared for in.

Legend has it, if you say ‘New Doctor Who’ in a mirror three times, Kris Marshall appears.
The Death in Paradise star (who is starring in the Devon-set spin-off series Beyond Paradise on BBC One) has for many years been one of – if not the – top names whenever we hear there’s a Doctor Who regeneration on the way. In 2017, the rumours were so solid that the bookies even stopped taking bets on him becoming Peter Capaldi’s successor.
And yet Kris Marshall himself confirmed last year that he’s never even been approached for the show. Not only that – and readers might want to sit down for this one – he’s never watched a single episode.
Now we’ve got over that bombshell, it’s time to ask: how on earth did the Kris Marshall Doctor Who rumours start?

ITV has canceled Rob Lowe’s fish out of water British cop drama Wild Bill after just one season.
The West Wing star, who currently features in Netflix film Holiday In The Wild, played high-flying U.S. cop Bill Hixon, who was appointed Chief Constable of the East Lincolnshire Police Force in the UK.
But the series failed to arrest a huge audience, averaging just 3.7 million viewers, and it was not picked up by a big player in the U.S. despite Lowe suggesting that Netflix or Hulu could come in for the show.
Wild Bill was produced by 42, MultiStory Media and Anonymous Content. The show was created by The Hunted writer David Griffiths, before Awake creator Kyle Killen came on board with Silent Witness writers Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble. Lowe acted as an executive producer.
An ITV spokeswoman said: “We are immensely proud of Wild Bill and loved...

The Mexican Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences hosted the 61st edition of their Ariel Awards on Monday evening, where Alfonso Cuarón’s “Roma” and Alejandra Márquez Abella’s “The Good Girls” stood out among the winners.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about Cuarón’s “Roma” scooping best picture is that it’s only the second of his films to win an Ariel award, and the first to be nominated for best picture. In 1992 “Sólo con Tu Pareja” was nominated for best first work and screenplay, and won best original story. In 2001 he chose not to submit his Oscar-nominated classic “Y tu mamá también” in protest at the Academy’s voting practices.
By the end of the Monday evening however, “Roma” netted 10 prizes, including best director, supporting actress, photography, screenplay, editing, sound, art design, visual effects and special effects to go along with the best picture prize.

“Brits don’t like boasters,” Rob Lowe’s high-flying U.S. cop Bill Hixon is told in the first trailer for ITV drama Wild Bill. He responds by calling East Lincolnshire a “godforsaken cabbage patch,” which nicely sums up the fish-out-of-water series.
The West Wing star plays Hixon, who is appointed Chief Constable of the East Lincolnshire Police Force in the UK in the ITV series, which launches in June. The series is produced by 42, Shiver and Anonymous Content.
Lowe’s Hixon is an analytics expert, a Moneyball-for-police type and he is in Lincolnshire to help bring down the crime rate, while also dealing with his troubled young daughter.
The show was created by The Hunted writer David Griffiths and then Awake creator Kyle Killen came on board with Silent Witness writers Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble. Lowe acts as an exec producer as well as on-screen star.

Rob Lowe is enjoying being a fish out of water in British cop drama Wild Bill, which is leading ITV Studios Global Entertainment’s scripted lineup at next week’s Mip TV.
The West Wing star plays high-flying U.S. cop, Bill Hixon, who is appointed Chief Constable of the East Lincolnshire Police Force in the UK. The series is produced by 42, Shiver and Anonymous Content for ITV and launches later this year.
“The interesting sort of flavor of it was what drew me to it, it’s tone really. I love these shows, I love Fargo, Better Call Saul, I love these shows where there’s a titular hero in the middle of it, but surrounded in a world in that is very odd, very different and really authentically intense and violent, and then really really sweet and emotional and then really really funny, all at once. And it...

Its been awhile since Spike Lee has directed a project. His last film The Miracle of St. Anna went under the radar so his last big studio film of recognition was the thriller Inside Man.
Deadline New York is reporting that Lee is closing up a deal to direct Nagasaki Deadline.
The story centers on a downtrodden FBI agent who races against the clock to foil two terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. The agent must delve through historical events that appear to be linked to the plot against America. Martin Campbell was originally set to direct the film before dropping out to direct Green Lantern.
Lee would be directing the film from a script by William Broyles Jr., who rewrote from an original script by David Griffiths and Peter Griffiths. Big names like James Cameron, Jon Landau and Rae Sanchini are producing the film under their Lightstorm Entertainment banner...

This is a pairing that I did not expect to see. If you would have asked me yesterday I would have laughed, but apparently it is true.
According to Empire, Lee will be directing and Cameron will be producing the film Nagasaki Deadline. The story revolves around an FBI Agent who is trying to stop a double terrorist attack on American soil.
From the sound of it, this Peter and David Griffiths script has been floating around for awhile. It even had a home and director at one point before 9/11. After the event that happened that day Fox decided to drop the script. Now, however, it has a pretty strong backing. No cast or start date have been decided on as of yet, but now that Lee has been given the helm everything else should fall into place.
I wouldn't necessarily call myself a Spike Lee fan, but I really enjoyed Inside Man.
