Henry Hadley(1871-1937)

Educated at Tufts College (Mus. D) and St. Paul's School in Garden
City, NY (1925), he also studied music with Stephen Emery, George
Chadwick and Eusebius Mandyczewski. He conducted in the USA, Europe,
South America and Japan, joined ASCAP in 1917, and founded the NAACC in
1932 and the Berkshire Festival in 1933 (which he conducted until his
death). He was associate conductor of the New York Philharmonic and a
member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters, the American
Academy of Arts and Letters, and the French Institute. The French
government awarded him the Order of Merit. (See "Other Works" for his
