Fans of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit films have been anxiously awaiting the release of the inevitable extended version of The Battle of Five Armies, and today Warner Bros. have officially revealed when fans can pick it up, along with which new special features are included. Come inside to take a look!
I think I've made it clear over the last few years, that I haven't exactly been a fan of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy (for a variety of reasons). However, I have felt that the extended edition versions of the movies have been more enjoyable for me as I watched them. Perhaps that will be the case with Battle of the Five Armies, which hits blu-ray on November 17th, with 20 extra minutes of footage.
And yes, as rumored/revealed a little while ago, this new version is in fact rated R. Take from that what you will,...

Whatever your thoughts are on Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy when compared to the director’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, you certainly can’t fault him for casting. This new trilogy, which concludes in December with The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies, has brought back Ian McKellen as the great wizard Gandalf and Orlando Bloom as archer Legolas, while starring Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield, Benedict Cumberbatch as the dragon Smaug and Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman, among many, many others. Now, we’ve got a new image from the trilogy topper, highlighting McKellen and Evans as they gaze, awe-struck, off-screen at what I can only presume is The Hobbit‘s collective worldwide box office haul.
Granted, the shot isn’t the most revealing, but it’s a nice reminder that this movie is on its way. So much attention...

Though Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy hasn’t received nearly as positive reviews as The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the first two installments were solid, if overlong, high fantasy adventures, thanks both to Jackson’s sense of visual splendor and the talents of the ensemble cast. An Unexpected Journey was more dull than many expected, though I personally enjoyed it, and The Desolation of Smaug was a big step up from that, accelerating the pace and featuring some truly epic battles. So, will the trilogy-topper, this winter’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, keep that upward momentum going to become the best of the bunch? It’s too early to say, of course, but the first official synopsis for the fantasy film certainly seems promising.

Warner Bros. Pictures, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and New Line Cinema jointly announced on Friday that the much-anticipated final film in Peter Jackson’s trilogy adaptation of the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, has now been titled The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies.
The film, previously titled “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” will be released worldwide December 17, 2014, with select international territories releasing on December 10, 2014.
Peter Jackson stated, “Our journey to make ‘The Hobbit’ Trilogy has been in some ways like Bilbo’s own, with hidden paths revealing their secrets to us as we’ve gone along. ‘There and Back Again’ felt like the right name for the second of a two-film telling of the quest to reclaim Erebor, when Bilbo’s arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film. But with three movies, it suddenly felt misplaced — after all, Bilbo has already arrived...

‘The Hobbit 2′ weekend box office: Third 2013 movie to top domestic box office chart three consecutive weekends (photo: Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’) Two weekends ago, Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opened way below expectations in the United States and Canada; yet, The Hobbit 2 is hanging in there. Chiefly because Will Ferrell’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues underperformed on its domestic debut, The Hobbit 2 topped the North American box office last weekend. Chiefly because Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s collaboration The Wolf of Wall Street debuted with less than $10 million, The Hobbit 2 topped the North American Christmas box office two days ago. And chiefly because there’s no strong competition out there, The Hobbit 2 is expected to top the North American box office once again this weekend, December 27-29, 2013 — the last weekend of the year. Budgeted at approximately...

‘The Hobbit 2′ weekend box office: Far behind ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ in North America? (Photo: Orlando Bloom as Legolas in ‘The Hobbit 2′) First the (domestic) good news for distributor Warner Bros. and producing companies Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, New Line Cinema, and WingNut Films: The Hobbit 2 aka The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second movie in Peter Jackson’s $567 million-budgeted* The Hobbit trilogy, opened Friday, December 13, 2013, with an estimated $31.14 million from 3,903 North American venues, including $8.8 million from Thursday midnight shows. That likely means that the sequel to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will have earned more than $70 million in the U.S. and Canada by Sunday evening. Early Friday estimates indicated that The Hobbit 2 would debut below the $70 million mark at the domestic box office. Now, The Hobbit 2 bad news: A year ago, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opened with a — relatively speaking — disappointing $84.61 million at 4,045 theaters. Even if it reaches $75 million,...

‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ box office: Domestic midnight grosses far behind ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ opening last year The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second movie in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, opened with a (relatively speaking) disappointing $8.8 million from Thursday midnight, December 12-13, 2013, shows in North America. For comparison’s sake: At about this time last year, and in a similar number of theaters, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey debuted with a considerably more impressive $13 million. (See also: “‘The Hobbit 2′ weekend box office” [early estimates]. Image: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.) As it stands, Peter Jackson’s two Hobbit movies have had the biggest domestic December midnight openings ever. That sounds good, but how high will The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug go this weekend? Well, at this stage it seems that the Hobbit sequel will trail its predecessor in North America. Some have been...

When we first heard that The Hobbit was being split into three films, a lot of people were very skeptical, myself included, but The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug may manage a rare feat in the movie world… improving efforts as it goes along. Though we don’t really have what we can call final verdicts, the second film is already showing up significantly higher in the overall scores at places like Rottentomatoes.com and MetaCritic.com, and if you take a look at the trailer below, you may get an idea why critics are more responsive to this one.
We have the first trilogy of movies to compare, of course, with each of them getting more attention than the last, ultimately resulting in an Academy Award, and we may be in store for a similar course of events. It’s the very reason that people rolled their eyes at the idea of three films,...
