The semi-finals got underway in the Jeopardy! Masters tournament on Monday (May 22) night, and James Holzhauer continued where he left off, racking up more wins and topping the leaderboard. However, for a moment, it seemed like Mattea Roach was going to beat the self-styled game show supervillain. In the second game of the night, Roach made an impressive comeback in the Double Jeopardy round, landing on two Daily Doubles and boosting their total to 26,800, while Holzhauer stood at 18,800 and Andrew He at 6,400. This meant for the first time this season, Holzhauer was not leading going into Final Jeopardy. Unfortunately for Roach, they failed to answer the final clue. Holzhauer and He both answered correctly (the Golden Hind), giving the former a winning total of 24,700 while Roach dropped to 15,999. “Look at Mattea making this game interesting!” wrote one fan on the Jeopardy! ...

Every year it seems like there’s a handful of weird cinematic coinky-dinks, like how 2022 managed to give us three “Pinocchio” movies, two unrelated Disney blockbusters about underwater blue people, and three ensemble comedy whodunits with blink-and-you’ll-miss-it theatrical releases. But perhaps most specific of all, and sneaking in right under the wire, is the new microgenre of films about a young Edgar Allan Poe solving murders while he was a cadet at West Point.
Following in the footsteps of Christopher Hatton’s stylish but troubled “Raven’s Hollow,” Scott Cooper’s “The Pale Blue Eye” tells the story of a mysterious murder and mutilation at the famous military academy. Christian Bale plays a retired detective, Augustus Landor, who gets called forth to investigate the crime, and along the way he allies himself with the unusually sensitive and erudite Mr. E. A. Poe, played by Harry Melling (“Please Baby Please...

Netflix’s The Pale Blue Eye strains itself as a self-serious mix of thriller, murder mystery, and period piece drama. Following in the blood trail left by Christopher Hatton’s artful, but mediocre Raven’s Hollow, Scott Cooper’s The Pale Blue Eye follows a shadowy story of mutilation and murder at the famous military academy Westpoint where Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling) was stationed for a time in 1830. with a penchant for the natural world draped in shadows and natural lights of the time. The sense of place is there even if the story is a bit wispy, like tendrils of blood from a dead man’s hand dissolving in a bathtub.
Cooper’s directorial style surprisingly doesn’t ponder too much over Poe and his predilections as a storied American author. The obligatory raven shot or grisly murder scenes are here, but The Pale Blue Eye works on...

Writer and poet Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) is known for his short stories and poetry dealing with mysteries and the macabre. In the U.S., he is regarded as a dominant figure of Romanticism and is considered to be the inventor of the detective fiction genre, as well as a major contributor to science fiction. Poe’s most famous poem, The Raven, was published in 1845 and describes an agitated lover’s painfully slow descent into madness after he is visited by a talking raven. While The Raven was reportedly inspired by Charles Dickens’ real-life pet raven, the film Raven’s Hollow attempts to tell the story of Poe’s inspiration for the poem as a supernatural incident the young writer experienced, but does so with arguable results.

"I couldn't say what it is… Spirit…? Devil…? Indians call it 'bad medicine.'" Shudder has revealed an official trailer for a mysterious Edgar Allan Poe thriller titled Raven's Hollow, from writer / director Christopher Hatton. This one actually features the character of Edgar Allan Poe as himself, not an adaptation of one of his stories. Raven's Hollow follows Poe in his time as a cadet at West Point in upstate New York. The film is set in the autumn of 1830, where Poe and four other cadets are doing a training exercise in upstate New York. The five cadets come across a man hanging on a wooden rack. When Poe comes to help the man, he utters his dying word, "raven," which sets Poe and his fellow cadets into the strange, rural community of Raven's Hollow, a town with some pretty dark and twisted secrets. William Moseley stars as Mr. Poe,...

Film: "Battle of the Damned"; Cast: Dolph Lundgren, Melanie Zanetti, Matt Doran, Jen Sung Outerbridge, Lydia Look, Oda Maria, Esteban Cueto, David Field; Director: Christopher Hatton; Rating: *
To watch "Battle of the Damned" is like rotting in hell with zombies, killer robots, obtuse-damned survivors and an overdose of innate absurdity that is prevalent in the film.
The film begins with a 15-minute prologue that seems to be detached from the film. It is revealed that Army Major Max Gatling (Dolph Lundgren) is dispatched by a desperate rich and influential man, head of a biotech company, to rescue his daughter Jude (Melanie Zanetti) from a zombie-infested city.
No sooner has Jude's father delivered the necessary.

However, this company's action production arm, Compound B, has brought together a memorable outing in their latest collabortion. A throwback to action films of the late '80s and early '90s, Battle of the Damned places actor Dolph Lundgren as Max Gatling in the middle of an environmental disaster. This title focuses on violent action and a few characters, with the film delivering some light entertainment. Battle of the Damned is an indie action film of note and fans of strong heroes with few lines will enjoy this straight-to-video outing. It is all about the rescue. The central character Max is tasked with infiltrating a walled off city, in Thailand.

Honestly, what more do you need to know about 'Battle Of The Damned' other than it's got Dolph Lundgren and is a movie about killer robotos versus zombies? Sold! Anchor Bay Entertainment unleashes this beast onto Blu-Ray and DVD on February 18th, but to tide you over until then, we've got both a green-band and a red-band trailer. Both are slightly tonely different, so I recommend starting with the green-band. If you want to hear a killer robot say the "F" word, then follow it up with the red-band. See 'em both below!
'Battle Of The Damned' is written and directed by Christopher Hatton and produced by Ehud Bleiberg, Leon Tong and Hatton. It stars Dolph Lundgren ('The Expendables'), Matt Doran ('The Matrix'), David Field ('Chopper') & Esteban Cueto ('Fast Five').

As fans of action movies we have to sit through some truly horrible movies just to enjoy the scenes where a big action hero makes his appearance and makes some smart assed comment. Battle of the Damned is a science fiction film that blends elements of horror into its story. The infectious lurk about. In the film's setting, an underground lab has been compromised. Now, hundreds of the infected are swarming topside. Automatons have also been released. Only a few scientists have survived and they must fight off both the disease ridden and these killer machines. This title is still in development, but a special effects test is available. Fans of b-movies can see the dark settings and antagonists in this clip. Characters are also shown, but only briefly. Zombies. Robots. Dolph Lundgren.Sure, sure ... Michael Bay may be producing a big budget adaptation of Ashley Wood's Zombies Versus Robots but why wait until 2013 for that (maybe, it still doesn't have a director attached) when you can have Dolph Lundgren in Christopher Hatton's Battle Of The Damned instead? Backed by Singapore's Boku Films and Bleiberg Entertainment's genre label Compound B, we first brought word of the action / horror / scifi hybrid that will feature zombies and robots in whatever the equivalent of mortal combat would be for things that are already dead and things that were never alive in the first place back in October. Things have been relatively quiet since as the project proceeds through development but now there's brand...

A few days ago I reviewed an import DVD of Christopher Hatton’s Robotropolis, essentially a zombie outbreak flick with killer robots in lieu of the undead. Hatton’s next flick, Battle of the Damned, has just been announced at Afm, and this time the survivors will have to contend with both berserk robots and zombies.
Blieberg Entertainment is behind writer-director Christopher Hatton’s robo-zombie apocalypse flick Battle of the Damned, currently in the earliest stages of pre-production.
Synopsis:
Following a viral outbreak at a remote facility, a group of survivors find themselves not only fighting against the vicious infected masses but a band of rogue prototype robots as well.
One of the main reasons I felt Robotropolis (review here) didn’t work was because Hatton’s scope was far more ambitious than his limited resources allowed. Hopefully by containing the action to a single location, he can deliver on more of the robots vs.

If you said yes to any of these questions then you might like Christopher Hatton's upcoming film, Battle of the Damned. Stars: Zoe Naylor, Graham Sibley, Edward Foy, Lani John Tupu, Jourdan Lee | Written and Directed by Christopher Hatton

When a Gnn news crew are sent to report on the idyll that...
