Currently one of the best-selling manga series of all time, with more than 80 million copies sold, “Jujutsu Kaisen” also continues its successful run as an anime, in a season, that is actually much better than the first one in terms of context, as drama becomes a crucial element of the narrative.

The first episodes take us back to 2006, when Satoru Gojo and Geto Suguru were in high school and actually the best of friends. One day, they receive a mission from a key figure in the sorcery realm, Tengen, to “guard” and “erase” for a girl called Amanai Riko, Tengen's match “Star Plasma Vessel”. The two set off to complete the escort tasks, but a “jujutsu sorcerer killer” named Fushiguro shows up and the consequences of his appearance are rather dire, sending the two all-powerful sorcerers to completely different directions in their lives.

Following the recent surge of blockbuster anime movies based on anime series, which has been eloquently mirrored in the Japanese box office, the creators of one of the most popular shonen titles, nowadays, could not stay out of the whole game. The “Jujutsu Kaisen” movie is based on the homonymous series, a prequel to the original one, both created by Gege Akutami.
“Jujutsu Kaisen 0” will be released in theatres starting March 18, courtesy of Crunchyroll
The story focuses on a different central character from the series, Yuta Okkotsu, who suffers from a curse from his late girlfriend, Rika, who follows him everywhere, in a rather disturbing coexistence, as the latter has taken a truly horrific form, and is always eager to protect her host, with no care for the consequences. Her actions have led Yuta to be completely isolated, something that changes, though, when he stumbles upon a sorcerer named Satoru Gojo,...

In the vast plethora of shonen anime that seem to spawn in perpetuity, the ones that stand out are those that manage to offer something different from the usual recipe. A number of titles that achieve this goal have been released during the latest years, so it is time to check if the latest sensation, which won the “Anime of the Year” at the 2021 5th Crunchyroll Anime Awards falls under this category or is just another shonen.
The protagonist of the story is Yuji Itadori, an unnaturally fit high school student living in Sendai with his dying grandfather, who spends his days at the hospital. Although many sport clubs are pursuing his talents, Itadori has chosen to deal solely with the Occult Research Club, which includes only two other members, both because he is enjoying the atmosphere but also because it allows him to leave school early to attend to his grandfather.
