Meet the newest Bravolebrity. Rebecca Minkoff is joining the cast of The Real Housewives of New York City for season 15.
Minkoff will appear in the upcoming season of the Bravo show, according to a report from Deadline. However, it’s not clear whether she’ll join as a full cast member or appear as a “friend of” the Housewives.
Rhony recently underwent a full reboot, with an all-new cast replacing the Og stars. All six of those women will return for season 15. That includes designer Jenna Lyons, the former creative director of J. Crew.

“His smile is the best,” gushes a caption on a Dec. 26 video of a young man with the physique of a lightweight boxer, a square jaw, and close-cropped dark hair. As he stands on Hollywood Boulevard, the man looks like virtually any other aspiring model or actor trying to eke out a living in Los Angeles; the only distinction is his crisply starched white shirt, tie, and vest, which makes him look like a cast member from the Book of Mormon.

This is it. The season two finale of the HBO Original Series “30 Coins” arrives on Monday, December 11, concluding a season long, high stakes battle between our heroes and ruthless enemies led by sycophant billionaire Christian Barbrow (Paul Giamatti).
Expect things to get wild as hell.
Directed and co-written by Álex de la Iglesia, along with co-writer Jorge Guerricaechevarría, Max’s “30 Coins” takes viewers into a world where nothing is as it seems, and nobody can be trusted. Bloody Disgusting spoke with de la Iglesia about Season 2 last month, where the horror filmmaker touched on his overarching plans for the series as well as casting acclaimed actor Paul Giamatti in the role of this season’s terrifying villain.
This week, Bloody Disgusting caught up with Giamatti to find out how he came to play Christian Barbrow, the inspiration behind the character, and his love of horror.

Are multiverses consistent with Christian theology? Personally, I have my doubts, but in Angel Studios’ religious-minded sci-fi thriller “The Shift,” the notion that there could be infinite parallel realities offers an original, if flawed model to test its main character’s faith.
Here’s how it works: A churchgoing man named Kevin (Kristoffer Polaha) meets and marries his dream woman, Molly (Elizabeth Tabish), only to have his happy life whisked away from him by a steely-eyed stranger who calls himself “the Benefactor” (Neal McDonough). Kevin’s desperate to get back to his wife, but this Benefactor guy seems determined to rattle his convictions, trying to force Kevin to reject his beliefs and go along with the rest of society’s atheist attitudes.
That’s where the movie’s other big biblical connection comes in. “The Shift” is billed as a contemporary retelling of the book of Job, in which God...

When NBC closed shop on "Cheers" in 1993, it felt like the right time to bid farewell to our favorite broadcast barflies and a death in the family. For 11 consistently great seasons, viewers knew that every Thursday evening, they could drop by the neighborhood tavern where everybody knows their name. We couldn't begrudge the actors for wanting to move on to other opportunities, but their characters were so rich and relatable that we wanted to grow old with them.
"Cheers" fans were more than happy to settle for "Frasier," which transplanted Kelsey Grammer's neurotic psychiatrist to Seattle, where he had to contend/coexist with his equally neurotic brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and his retired cop father Martin (John Mahoney). Under the aegis of creators David Angell, Peter Casey, and David Lee, "Frasier" quickly established itself as the wittiest, most erudite sitcom on network television. It was the perfect spinoff.

Updated: Leah Remini has filed a lawsuit against the Church of Scientology and its leader, David Miscavige, for harassment, defamation and other unlawful conduct. Remini, who joined the Church in 1979 as a child and left in 2013, claims Scientology’s “mob-style operations and attacks” have “significantly” impacted her life and career.
“For 17 years, Scientology and David Miscavige have subjected me to what I believe to be psychological torture, defamation, surveillance, harassment, and intimidation, significantly impacting my life and career. I believe I am not the first person targeted by Scientology and its operations, but I intend to be the last,” Remini stated in a press release sent out Wednesday.
In a statement released Thursday, the Church of Scientology responded to Remini’s lawsuit, calling the actor and former member “an anti-free speech bigot.”
“If Remini can no longer get a job, she has nobody to blame but herself,” the Church continued.

Updated with church response: The relations between Leah Remini and her former friends in Scientology have been bitter for a decade, as the actor’s harassment lawsuit against the church this week made clear.
On Thursday, in an invective-filled response to that suit, the David Miscavige-led organization made the point themselves.
Calling the multi-claim complaint against the church and Miscavige “ludicrous and the allegations pure lunacy,” Scientology got personal in its response, referring to the Emmy-winning Scientology and the Aftermath host as “a horrible person” and a hate-speech-spewing “bigot.” The statement seemingly sidestepped the issues brought up in the suit to slam once-favored member Remini as “toxic to so many who have the misfortune to come in contact with her.”
Known to play offense in lieu of defense in its public stances against critics, Scientology’s statement today ends with: “The Church is not intimidated by Remini’s latest...

Leah Remini is moving forward with legal action against the Church of Scientology.
The veteran actress on Wednesday filed a complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court against the L. Ron Hubbard-created organization and its leader David Miscavige, according to documents shared by The Blast.
The King of Queens alum's lawsuit is the result of alleged "civil harassment, stalking, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage."
Remini says the Church has "undertaken a campaign to ruin and destroy" her life and livelihood.
The lawsuit states she is "a former Scientologist of nearly 40 years, a two-time Emmy-award winning producer, actress and New York Times best-selling author" who was "deemed a Suppressive Person and declared Fair Game by Scientology in 2014 when she publicly departed Scientology, a Suppressive Act as laid out by Scientology directives."

Leah Remini has sued the Church of Scientology in a wide-ranging lawsuit that includes claims of harassment, stalking and defamation.
Remini, who broke with the organization in 2013 before becoming a outspoken critic, alleges in a suit filed on Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court that she has been “stalked, surveilled, harassed, threatened, intimidated, and, moreover, has been the victim of intentional malicious and fraudulent rumors” to intimidate and silence her. She points to a “series of retaliatory activities” against people and groups deemed an “enemy” of the church.
The complaint names church chairman David Miscavige and the Religious Technology Center, which allegedly manages policing operations and enforces punitive measures. Remini seeks unspecified damages and a court order requiring the group and any entity it controls or funds to “cease and desist its harassment, defamation, and other unlawful conduct.”
A representative for the church replied on Thursday in a post on its website that stated,...

Film Independent is currently in the middle of a Matching Campaign to raise support for the next 30 years of filmmaker support. All donations make before or on September 15 will be doubled—dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000. To kick off the campaign, we’re re-posting a few of our most popular blogs.
Among other consumer benefits, one major upside to the increasing niche-ification of popular culture has been the continuing emergence of esoteric micro-genres of film and TV. Twenty years ago, you might not necessarily think of “horror documentaries” as its own subgenre. Sure, there were documentaries that maybe fell a little more on the creepy/unsettling side, but it was rare that a nonfiction film would be tailored to appeal to a horror-first genre audience. Now, of course, things are different. In recent years, a robust tradition of terrifying nonfiction films have emerged, many as terrifying – or even more eerie – than their traditional narrative counterparts.

At the same time, once you’ve spent six episodes snarking on the likes of Saddam Hussein, Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler, how much challenge is there in poking fun at colorfully outsize personalities and their devoted followers when they’ve already been the butt of jokes for, in some cases, generations?
Those two statements are, respectively, the principle behind and the primary limitation to Netflix’s new six-episode documentary-comedy How to Become a Cult Leader, a follow-up in tone, style and structure to 2021’s How to Become a Tyrant.

Joaquin Phoenix has lived through a lot. Perhaps that's part of what makes him so adept at embodying characters in bizarre situations and in moments of crisis - and few onscreen characters have ever suffered through so many crises, so quickly, as Joaquin's character in Ari Aster's "Beau Is Afraid," which premieres on April 21.
In the film, Joaquin plays the title character, Beau, a middle-aged man seemingly trapped in a perpetual adolescence. We immediately learn he has a complex relationship with his mother and that he lives in a horrifically derelict apartment building. But after he misses a flight to see his mother because someone stole his keys and suitcase, the world as he knows it begins to collapse. First his building is overtaken by criminals, and then he learns his mother's head was crushed by a lamp - and the horror only escalates from there.

Scientology has long been a source of intrigue and controversy in the media.
Though categorised as a cult in Germany, the Church of Scientology is considered a religion by others and has generated headlines about teachings that many deem restrictive.
This, however, hasn’t stopped several Hollywood actors from advocating for the religion.
Recently, Alex Gibney, the filmmaker behind the documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, expressed shock that Tom Cruise, a famed Scientologist, has not been called out for his involvement.
“There hasn’t been any reckoning for him, it surprised me,” Gibney told Rolling Stone.
Whether it’s through Louis Theroux’s exploration into the Church or rumours of John Travolta’s attempted uncoupling from it, Scientology’s position in popular culture cannot be denied.
Here is a rundown of some of the best-known Hollywood stars who have been affiliated with the Church.

The 95th Academy Awards had two notable absentees over the weekend: Tom Cruise and James Cameron. “The two guys who insisted we go to the theatre didn’t come to the theatre,” Kimmel joked about the pair’s impassioned push to get people back into the cinemas after the pandemic. What the host said next is probably the reason why Cruise was nowhere to be seen. “Everyone loved Top Gun, everyone! I mean, Tom Cruise with his shirt off in that beach football scene? L Ron hubba hubba,” Kimmel joked, referring to Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard and the controversial religion of which Cruise is an advocate.
Kimmel’s wife, executive producer Molly McNearney, has since said that her husband wouldn’t have made the joke in Cruise’s presence, which is revealing in itself, but for Cruise, why risk it? It’s not like he needs to get more...

Oscar producers have admitted Jimmy Kimmel made a Scientology joke about Tom Cruise as he decided not to attend.
Kimmel hosted the 95th Academy Awards on Sunday (12 March). During his opening monologue he poked fun at Avatar director James Cameron, last year’s Will Smith slap and, in what was deemed a “low blow” by viewers, the poor box office performance of Babylon.
He also alerted the audience to the fact that Cruise, whose Top Gun: Maverick received six nominations, was not in attendance.
According to Entertainment Tonight, this was due to the fact that he was busy shooting Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part II in the UK.
Kimmel addressed Top Gun sequel’s box office success in 2021, calling it “the movie that saved the movies”.
He then made a Scientology quip, stating: “Everyone loved Top Gun – everybody. I mean, Tom Cruise with his shirt off in that beach football scene.

Tom Cruise got plenty of attention at the 2023 Oscars, and he wasn’t even in the building.
The star and producer of Top Gun: Maverick, which was nominated for six Academy Awards including best picture, did not attend the ceremony held Sunday at the Dolby Theatre. Cruise, who received a best picture nomination as a Maverick producer, has been busy with production on the eighth film in his long-running Mission: Impossible franchise.
But footage of Cruise from the movie was featured just after the start of the telecast during an introductory montage showing the year’s films. Host Jimmy Kimmel was spliced into a pivotal Maverick scene and appeared to be speaking with Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell from the cockpit. After Cruise’s character said to pull the plane’s ejection handles, Kimmel responded, “I don’t want to pull the handles. What’s wrong with this guy?” When Cruise again said to eject,...

Filmmaking is a collaborative process. Having an original idea is a phenomenal start, but directors need the financial backing of a studio to bring it to life. If that's not all, to get the best results, filmmakers must also choose talent with strong on-screen chemistry or, at the very least, ensure they get along.
The unpredictable nature of life causes things to go awry sometimes. Filmmaking is a business, and one major blunder can be a career-ender. A project can run out of money halfway through shooting because of poor budgeting. Maybe a flick's stars completely misunderstood their roles. Worse yet, audiences may not comprehend a director's vision upon a movie's release.
"A director must be a policeman, a midwife, a psychoanalyst, a sycophant, and a bastard," director Billy Wilder once wisely declared. Perhaps "clairvoyant" should be added to that list, as there's no chance that some of the following fiascos could have been predicted.

Plenty of Hollywood celebs, including Tom Cruise, Priscilla Presley, and the late Kirstie Alley proudly tout their affiliation with the Church of Scientology. Others, such as Leah Remini and Laura Prepon, left the controversial group behind.
One star you might not associate with the teachings of sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard is Jerry Seinfeld who said he found his brief time with Scientology to be “interesting.”

Tom Cruise remains on top after all these years. Top Gun: Maverick earned nearly 1.5 billion at the box office, and scored six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. But as great as his recent film work has been, some think most of his links to Scientology. Cruise is synonymous with the controversial religion now, but it was his first wife, Mimi Rogers, who introduced him to the church. The couple eventually divorced, and Rogers left Scientology for good. Like most stories related to the church, the story behind their split is strange and full of unconfirmed rumors.

Cruise and Rogers started dating in 1985. In hindsight, it was probably a red flag that the pair couldn’t even agree on how they first met.

Tara Savelo was born into Scientology and remained active in it into her 20s. She grew up in Clearwater, Fla., one of the church’s main outposts, and later moved to Los Angeles, where she became Lady Gaga’s makeup artist.
She drifted away from the church as she built her own life. But over the last few weeks, as she has read about the Danny Masterson rape trial, many of the church’s teachings and practices have come back to the surface.
“The verbiage the victims use – the first time I read it, it was so upsetting,” she said. “There are specific words and descriptors they’ve used that are ingrained in my DNA. It makes my stomach turn.”
For a lot of former Scientologists, the Masterson trial has been a subject of intense fascination. It combines celebrity, sex and justice, and it is set within a society that they know intimately.

Update, 3:58 Pm : “When you review the evidence you are to consider evidence that is reasonable and only evidence that is reasonable,” Deputy L.A. County District Attorney Reinhold Mueller said to jurors in the Danny Masterson rape trial this afternoon in his final statement. “If something is unreasonable to you, you must reject it.”
In contrast to a somewhat pugilistic closing statement by primary defense lawyer Phillip Cohen, Mueller used his last words to the jury before deliberations to ease back to the prosecution’s core case. The panel is currently in the jury room until at least 4 p.m. or so. It will then resume their deliberations tomorrow morning. With the Thanksgiving holiday week fast approaching, it is very likely the jury could come back with a verdict in the next day or so. If found guilty, the former That ‘70s Show star could land in prison for up to 45 years.

A jury ordered Academy Award-winning filmmaker Paul Haggis Thursday to pay at least 7.5 million to a woman who accused him of rape in one of several #MeToo-era cases that have put Hollywood notables’ behaviour on trial this fall. Jurors also plan to award additional punitive damages.
Veering from sex to red-carpet socializing to Scientology, the civil court trial pitted Haggis, known for writing best picture Oscar winners “Million Dollar Baby” and “Crash”, against Haleigh Breest, a publicist who met him while working at movie premieres in the early 2010s.
After hugging her lawyers, Breest said she was “very grateful” for the verdict as she left court. In a statement released later, she said she was thankful “that the jury chose to follow the facts — and believed me.”
Haggis said he was “very disappointed in the results.”

Leah Remini is once again taking the Church of Scientology to task, posting a lengthy Twitter thread that accuses the organization of “covering up” member Danny Masterson’s alleged crimes.
The “King of Queens” actor, a former Scientologist, urged her followers to keep a close eye on the trial in which Masterson is facing charges for the alleged sexual assaults of three women in separate incidents between 2001 and 2003.

Paul Haggis Takes the Stand, Does Not Address Rape Allegations in Day of Scientology-Heavy Testimony
Paul Haggis testified Monday on his own behalf – the first time he’s spoken to the New York civil jury that will weigh whether to compensate a former events publicist who says the “Crash” director raped her in 2013 – and he barely got his first words out before an objection.
Asked by his own lawyer how he felt taking the stand, Haggis said: “I’m incredibly nervous, of course, and I’m very happy. Because for five years I’ve been unable to clear my name.”
Ilann Maazel, who is representing plaintiff Haleigh Breest, objected – but Judge Sabrina Kraus overruled her and the statement was allowed to stand, according to Deadline.

Attorneys are set to give opening statements in the Danny Masterson rape trial on Tuesday, as a jury is expected to be chosen by mid-morning.
Over the last week, the initial pool of 225 potential jurors has been narrowed to about 85. On Monday, the defense and the prosecution began to question the potential jurors in open court — in what is called voir dire — after an initial round of screening from Judge Charlaine Olmedo.
One of the key questions has been how much the potential jurors know about Scientology. Masterson is a Scientologist and each of his three accusers was a Scientologist at the time of the alleged rape. The accusers — now all ex-Scientologists — have said that they delayed going to the police out of concern that they could be excommunicated.
At the outset of his questioning, defense attorney Philip Cohen emphasized that Scientology is not on trial.

Elisabeth Moss Addresses Scientology in Unusually Candid Interview, from Leah Remini to Emmys Speech
Actor, director, and producer Elisabeth Moss got atypically honest about her ties to the Church of Scientology in a recent profile for The New Yorker. That includes rumors about the “Mad Men” star and “Handmaid’s Tale” Emmy winner walking out on ex-Scientologist Leah Remini’s acceptance speech at the 2018 Television Critics Awards for her religion-dissenting program, “Scientology and the Aftermath.”
“I went to the bathroom,” Moss clarified over her absence. “I wish it was more exciting than that.”
“Scientology and the Aftermath” creator Remini claimed that the Church forbids Moss to speak to her because Remini is an “anti-social personality,” as The New Yorker reported.
Moss responded, “I have never been approached by her. I have never received any request to talk to her. So there hasn’t been an opportunity for her to say that. I don’t know her that well, so it’s not like we were friends.

Since 1980, UCLA film grads and industry veterans John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy have honored the very worst in cinema with the Razzie Awards. Here’s a look back to the worst pictures of the last four decades.
“Can’t Stop the Music” (1980)
The Golden Raspberry Awards got their start by recognizing this musical comedy, a justly mocked quasi-biopic of the Village People.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 8%
“Mommie Dearest” (1981)
Faye Dunaway goes full camp as Joan Crawford in a docudrama whose comedy was often unintentional.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 53%
“Inchon” (1982)
This bloated, over-budget Korean war film starring Laurence Olivier as Gen. Douglas MacArthur was an epic turkey.
Rotten Tomatoes score: 0%
“The Lonely Lady” (1983)
Pia Zadora followed her mysterious (and widely mocked in retrospect) Golden Globe win for “Butterfly” with this adaptation of a trashy Harold Robbins novel about a schoolgirl/wannabe screenwriter.

It’s easy to feel like there’s nothing left to watch, after getting caught up on everything during the holidays (and something of a deficit when it comes new movies and television shows). The following contains spoilers for The Boys season 2 episode 7.
The ongoing presence and practice of politics within democratic societies should represent the pinnacle of human achievement: the fair and equitable ordering of communities, city states and nations; the voluntary outflow of power from the people to their chosen representatives.
In reality, however, the true power rests not in the hands of the people, but in the gloved fists of major institutions: including corporations and religions, the balance of power between those two behemoths varying from country to country, all around the world, western or otherwise. Certainly in the U.S., no man or woman can ascend to the presidency without the backing of at least one of them, and Amazon Prime’s superb superhero satire The Boys understands this bleak state of affairs perfectly. Joe Biden VP candidate Rep. Karen Bass did some damage control today with Fox News Sunday, taking back her past praise of Cuban Communist dictator Fidel Castro.
Bass, a five-term congresswoman who represents Los Angeles and is the head of the Congressional Black Caucus, addressed the remarks that many see deflating her chances to be tapped as Biden’s running mate.
In 2016, Bass issued a statement after Castro’s death that said “The passing of the Comandante en Jefe is a great loss to the people of Cuba.”
She now claims she didn’t know he was despised by many, particularly the Cuban refugees whose key influence in the swing state of Florida’s politics could be crucial to any Democratic presidential hopes.
“I absolutely would have not put that statement out,” Bass said to Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace.“Lesson learned, would not do that again, for sure.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer,” Travolta wrote. “She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many. …I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. All my love, Jt.”

John Travolta has been a repeat offender at the Razzies, earning 14 nominations over the course of his career, including Worst Actor of the Decade for both the 1980s and 2000s. But mercifully the only times he won were his nominations for 2000’s “Battlefield Earth.” However, we think he’ll be back in the winner’s circle — if you can call it that — this year for both “The Fanatic” and “Trading Paint.” He’s the odds-on favorite for Worst Actor based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users.
The L. Ron Hubbard-based sci-fi film “Battlefield Earth” was a notorious critical and commercial flop — its MetaCritic score was 9 out of 100, and it’s one of the 15 lowest rated films on IMDb. It won all seven Razzie categories it was nominated in, including Worst Picture, Worst Actor and Worst Screen Combo for Travolta. Travolta’s acting prize was actually awarded to...

It’s a sure bet that one reviewer’s high praise is another reviewer’s overpraise. So I fully own the subjective nature of this list. Nevertheless, as a film critic who sort of believes in objective reality (it’s a hard job to do if you don’t), I compiled this roster of movies I think got far too much love from my critical colleagues because, I suspect, I may not be alone. The films, by definition of their being here, have their avid fans and defenders. But maybe they’ve got their detractors, too. At any rate, they’ve certainly had their praises sung, so I figured it was time to toss a few rasberries into the bouquet of hosannas.

The Mission: Impossible franchise is an anomaly: an action blockbuster series that has only gotten better in its older age. Whatever powers that drive Tom Cruise to do what he does – be it Xenu, L. Ron Hubbard, or his very limited calorie count – have only amplified the thrills. Last year’s Fallout saw the Top Gun and Jerry Maguire star complete an on-camera Halo jump, navigate a motorcycle through the Arc de Triomphe in the wrong direction, and commandeer/steer a helicopter in an exhilarating chase sequence.
Yes, these films are only getting better and better; to the point where, if it were any other franchise, I’d ask them to stop out of fear that one bad entry would ruin the rest of the bunch. But not here. In the case of Mission: Impossible, keep ’em coming!
Fortunately, a lot of fans have come to the same conclusion. Unlike say,...

Leah Remini’s “Scientology and the Aftermath” docu-series is coming to an end after three seasons on A+E Networks.
However, the network has revealed that a two-hour special, airing Aug. 26, will act as a curtain call for the series. The special will reportedly cover the sexual assault allegations leveled at the Church of Scientology and Danny Masterson in particular.
“Scientology and the Aftermath” is presented by Remini and fellow former Scientologist Mike Rinder.
“Mike and I will always be grateful to A&e for giving us a platform to expose Scientology and give the victims a chance to be heard. Without the A&e team’s support ‘The Aftermath’ wouldn’t be what we intended,” said Remini in a statement. “We recognized it was time to move on to the next chapter and help people in new ways. We thank our viewers for caring in the way that you do. It means everything to us.

A former member of the Church of Scientology filed suit against the organization in Los Angeles County Superior Court earlier this week, citing alleged abuse, human trafficking, and forced labor within the organization. The suit is seeking general and compensatory damages, as well as recovery of unpaid wages, from the church, its leader David Miscavige, and 25 other unnamed correspondents.
Identified only as Jane Doe, the woman filing suit against the church says that she grew up inside the Church of Scientology and was appointed as a “steward” to Miscavige when...
