While he usually played bad guys, most memorably in Sam Peckinpah's Straw Dogs, and Ladyhawke and Sweeney 2, he played the co-lead hero in The Wrath of God opposite Robert Mitchum.
Despite getting the "Introducing" credit for Straw Dogs, he'd appeared in a few other movies and TV shows beforehand.
