Glee’s Rachel-centric episode on Tuesday night showed her Broadway debut in the revival premiere of Funny Girl – but before that – she had to make it there.
Glee Recap
In the middle of the night, Rachel (Lea Michele) has a recurring nightmare of getting called to hit the stage for the premiere and not being prepared in the slightest. The nightmare also returns Karofsky (Max Adler) and Jacob Ben Israel (Josh Sussman), who publicly chastise her, while she’s naked, and then gets stuck in a mass of balloons. There’s also Santana (Naya Rivera) back in her Cheerio prime and Blaine (Darren Criss) in his Warblers ensemble. The dream ends on a good note, as she sings The Cardigan’s "Lovefool" in the McKinley High auditorium rocking one of her old sweaters.
As it turns out, the nightmares are the result of Rachel reading less than stellar reviews of...

The night has finally arrived in tonight’s episode of “Glee,” appropriately titled “Opening Night” as Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) prepares to take the stage for the first time as Fanny Brice in the revival of Broadway’s “Funny Girl.” Rachel gets uncharacteristically nervous after reading some pre-mature negative comments about her portrayal as the classic character, and her nerves are displayed in a bizarre dream – bringing back McKinley favorites like Becky Jackson (Lauren Potter), Dave Karofsky (Max Adler) and Jacob Ben Israel (Josh Sussman) - where Rachel sings “Lovefool” by the Cardigans. She wakes up and Kurt (Chris Colfer) “unplugs” Rachel until after opening [...]

The photo above is what Glee wants you to believe a school shooting looks like.
Glee, that dastardly Fox camp of joyous tart pop revival, isn't quite done with its yearly bouts of exploitation as one might think. Yes, it's raked in absurd amounts of cash by cheapening the already monotonously saccharine tones of tunes from Katy Perry and Beyonce with impossibly reductive remixes, simultaneously lulling viewers with countless skin-dipped moments of adults-playing-teenage jailbait, mingled in with over-weighty tween feels (And Then Another Song). And that's been okay, the song-and-dance, exploit-and-repeat, as it nears a fifth-season renewal still reigning as one of Fox's most profitable shows.
The Vampire Diaries? Scandal? Game of Thrones? Girls? Vote for the Best TV Show of 2013!
Yet tonight, Glee tackles the biggest hot-button topic in high school--the school shooting--and still finds a way to croon sticky sweet songs about it. Tonight's episode, unwittingly named "Shooting Star...

Just because Glee dipped into the Britney Spears songbook for the second time in its four-season history doesn’t mean Fox’s (partial) high school musical is out of fresh ideas. (Spoilers ahead, so stop reading if you haven’t seen this week’s episode.)
Indeed, “Britney 2.0″ found Rachel channeling her inner sex kitten (while still finding time to whip up an oversized serving of foot-in-mouth stew), Brittany grappling with loneliness (and her catastrophic academic record), and Mr. Schuester huffing and puffing that New Directions might come under fire from the National Show Choir Board of Review. (Insert eye roll here.

When Glee's pilot episode aired lo those many years ago, a stunned nation of homogays sat speechless in front of their televisions. I'm trying to remember what we expected back then, back before we saw the first episode. High School Musical 7, probably. Singing and dancing at the most awesome/ridiculous times. And yeah, it was that. But what was stunning was how the melodies were woven through with a harmony of hopefulness and this idea that it's Ok to dream big dreams, that it's Ok to care, and that the most important thing you will ever do in life is create for yourself a family of people who will celebrate the weird and wonderful things that make you you. Nobody understands that sentiment like the queer community. So even before Kurt and Blaine and Klaine and Santana and Brittany and Brittana and Dave Karofsky and Unique, Glee resonated with us.

Like the bracing slap of an icy cold slushie to the face, Season 4 of Glee began with Rachel brought low in New York City, the remaining kids of New Directions on a nasty power high in Ohio, and a new girl named Marley stuck in the middle of potential popularity and crippling insecurities, between small-town life and big-city dreams.
In other words, while there’s always a little sting where change is concerned, it also feels like something unexpected and even a little dangerous has been awoken in the show’s writer’s room. And yes, while it’s understandable...

It's actually quite easy to discern the plot of the "Glee" Season 4 premiere, considering the episode is called "The New Rachel." Put simply, the episode will try to discern which of the current New Directions members is the new lead singer, and it'll follow Rachel as she gets used to her new life in New York City.
But after having seen the episode, here are a few more things you can expect:
1. The newbies are good. Like, gooooooooooood. Both Melissa Benoist, a.k.a. Marley Rose, and Jacob Artist, a.k.a. Jake Puckerman, have impressive musical numbers in the premiere. The other new kids, Rachel's collegiate love interest Brody (played by accent-less Aussie hottie Dean Geyer) and new Hbic Cheerio Kitty (Becca Tobin), are fantastic too, though we haven't heard them sing just yet.

Who is the new Rachel?
So Jacob Ben Israel asks in his video camera-based rundown of where things stand on Glee Season 4 next Thursday, as the Fox hit returns with a premiere aptly titled... "The New Rachel."
Check out a new promo for the episode, featuring a snippet of the cast's "Call Me Maybe" cover and then read on for plenty more teases from a fun opener:
Glee Season 4 Premiere Trailer
A couple breaks up. A main character gets a tattoo. Kate Hudson's Cassandra July is featured in the very first scene, berating Rachel. Sam does an impressive celebrity impression. Someone earns the nickname "Ms. David Schwimmer." We meet four new characters: Jake Puckerman (Puck's half-brother), Brody, Kitty (the new and improved Quinn, according to Sue) and Marley. Burt Hummel makes an appearance. Forget Nationals. Nyada students will be building toward The Winter Showcase.

Fall screener season has arrived, and I’m stoked to report that I’ve now had a chance to view the Season 4 premiere of Glee. The good news? Those of you who’ve been fretting over the show’s new split focus between the adventures of the New Directions gang in Lima, Oh, and its Mvp graduate Rachel Berry in New York City, can channel your inner Whitney Houston and finally exhale.

If an "Asian F" is the equivalent of an American A minus, what do I give this episode of Glee? An Asian Q? I really didn't care for it.
There were pieces here that made me smile on their own - Brittany leading a flash mob, Coach Beiste dropping one hilarious line after another, the mere fact that Emma has an autographed head shot of Vera Wang - but the show tried to jam way too much into a single hour.
Was it Mike's episode? The Asian dancing sensation was front and center for a welcome change, practicing on his own, teaching the group complicated moves, auditioning for the school play. He wasn't the kidding: the guy does have a lot on his well-toned plate!
Or was it Emma's episode? We met her racist Ginger Supremacist parents this week, a significant storyline that explained everything about Emma's Ocd over the course of one meal.

“Glee” has a tendency to oscillate between sappy and nasty, sometimes without any warning. Just look at Sue Sylvester. The show’s success can often be charted by how enjoyably it navigates the balance –- sometimes it feels like a PSA, and other times like a look into someone’s S&M musical fantasy. The opener of the third season did a better job of dealing with these two urges -– the first to reassure lonely 13 year olds that they’ll make it, the second to remind adults that life is strange and often evil -– better than almost any episode of the second season did.

It's Jacob Ben Israel (Josh Sussman) and his microphone, so this must be the start of a new school year at McKinley High. We get equal parts heavy-handed exposition and salacious gossip-mongering, just what we need to know that yes, my darlings: Glee is back!
Allow me to recap the recap: Mercedes and Sam are "so last June" and Sam moved out of state when his father got a job. Mercedes has a new football-playing boyfriend, Marcus (Lamarcus Tinker), and he knows she's going to be a big star. Artie and Tina are juniors, but Mike Chang is a senior, as are Finn, Rachel, and Kurt. Finn has absolutely no idea what he wants to be when he grows up, but Kurt and Rachel are heading for New York City as fast as they can click their shiny red heels together and say, "There's no place like Broadway."
According to Santana,...

None of the people in the above photo are dating each other.
When high school journo Jacob Ben Israel asked Mercedes (Amber Riley) if she was still dating Sam (Chord Overstreet) at the beginning of "Glee's" season 3 premiere, she replied, "Honey, that is so June."
She's right. It's been a while. With that in mind, we've assembled this handy list of the many tangled "Glee" romantic entanglements and where they stand (if anywhere) as of this fall.
Mr. Schuester & Emma Pillsbury: We love it! They're happily cohabitating. But, wait -- we're not sure they've quite consummated that cohabitation yet. It would seem Emma's still having intimacy problems. Rut-roh.
Rachel & Finn: The odd couple is back together, though Rachel's Broadway-bound bond to Kurt struck us as way stronger than anything she's got going on with Finn. But sometimes that's how it goes in high school. We meet our true BFFs while boyfriends come and go.

New year, same Sue Sylvester.
In the new promo for 'Glee' Season 3, Sue gives us permission to do something we had already planned on doing. "Feel free to wet yourselves with excitement," Sue says.
Get a first glimpse of Quinn's new pink punk look, a food fight, Will and Emma back together (!?) and a glitter bomb. There's also more of the cast singing 'We Got the Beat' and a classic Brittany line.
When Jacob Ben Israel asks our favorite blonde cheerleader what her plans for the future are, she quickly replies, "Are you working on a time machine too?"

By Theo & JulietteJosh Sussman plays space-invasive blogger Jacob Ben Israel on Glee, and he does so with a grotesque salaciousness that walks the line between unctuous and delightful. While I find his character’s fascination with Rachel Berry repellent, I also feel, as a fellow annoying, devious, Semitic chronicler of all things McKinley, that our commonalities outweigh our differences, so I dropped him a line in advance of tonight’s all-important prom episode to discuss raking muck, mailing black, and fro-ing Jew.

Dear Glee,
While you were gone, I was faithful and true. I watched old episodes on my DVR. I got into heated debates on Twitter about where the season was going from here. I waxed passionate with friends who do not watch Glee, explaining why it was really as good as its popularity would indicate, despite the plot holes and stuff.
I don't regret my devotion, dearest Glee, but I do regret the hour I spent watching "Night of Neglect," or rather, I regret slightly less than one hour because there were a few minutes that were worth the wait.
I hope, my beloved little show, that next week lives up to the expectations raised by the preview for a ninety minute episode with Kurt wearing an adorable hat, because otherwise, darlingest Gleester, our love may be put to a terrible test.
Yours devotedly… etc.
Okay, was last night's episode that bad?...

If there could be such a thing as a not-very-gay episode of Glee, this would be it. Although Glee at its least gay is still really super-gay, especially to a girl like me who came of age in an era when a two-second dry-mouthed kiss between two women who weren't even dating got a TV episode canceled on half the network affiliates in the nation.
But I digress; this is not a recap of a long-ago episode of La Law, it's the recap of the thirteenth episode of the second season of Glee, "Comeback." And despite the fact that there was no Kurt whatsoever, not even Kurt swaying in the background while Blaine leads the Warblers in song, and that the future promise of Brittana seems as far off as it ever did… this episode had its moments.

Only two episodes into their second season, "Glee" gave us another tribute episode (their third so far). It could have been a mess and been another crazy excuse to put Cory Monteith in platforms, but instead it was a nice reminder about how much fun Britney's music is and how funny Brittany continues to be. The episode wasn't perfect, though; there were the slightly off musical numbers and cringe-worthy character developments, but on the whole I had fun with "Brittany/Britney," even if most of that was due to a certain person's dance skill. Before we discuss the kick ass anesthetic dance moves, I'd like to bring up something that drove me crazy (only Britney pun, I swear).
Dear Will and Rachel: desperation isn't a look that looks good on anyone. I don't care how many vests you steal from the set of "Blossom" or Catholic school girl uniforms you wear a red bra under,...

"Glee's" Heather Morris finally gets her time to shine in the "Britney/Brittany" episode, but it isn't just about her awesome dancing skills.
Fans get some quality Brittany (Morris) time. Previously, she always had a random line here and there that made us laugh, but we had to wait for them.
This episode is chock full of hilarious or oddball lines though, and we were hard-pressed to pick just the best ones for our Brittany Notable Quotables gallery. The biggest bit of background we got on Brittany is a) Her full name -- Brittany S. Pierce and b) Because of her name, she lives her "entire life in Britney's shadow."
Here are some of the best and worst Brittany lines of the night:
Mr. Schue: "Who can tell me who Christopher Cross is?"
Brittany: "He discovered America."
To Santana after she's assured she doesn't have to sing a Britney Spears...

Ok, there are so many awesome things about this clip for the next new episode of Glee (airing on September 28), I’m not even sure where to start. I guess we could start with John Stamos, who is awesome and hot and cool. It’s also a scene with Brittany and Santana, which are always my favorite. Then there’s Brittany and her mad dancing skills. Seriously, why is this girl not front and center all the time?
Big thank you to E!Online for this awesome sneak peek. You can also check out promo photos we previously posted for this episode. Britney Spears herself will be making an appearance.

When Brittany and the gang try to convince Mr. Schuester to let them do a Britney Spears number, he is reluctant to go that edgy.

The episode begins with Jacob Ben Israel filming the latest edition of his video blog, 'Glee's Big Gay Summer'. We discover that Finn and Rachel have been dating all summer, although Finn describes Rachel as "controllist". Jacob also criticises Will for his song selections and rapping, and questions Puck about whether he had a vasectomy and is depressed about Quinn. We also learn that Tina and Mike are together as they walk away from Jacob holding hands, while Artie watches on sadly. Meanwhile, Kurt refuses to talk to Jacob but eventually criticises his readers for leaving anonymous comments on blogs and sends a message that people should say things to his face. As he says it, a football player walks past and throws a slushee in his face. Later, Will is looking sadly at the sign-up sheets for clubs as the glee club list is still empty. When Sue arrives,...

After a summer full of cosmetic and reproductive surgery, McKinley High's New Directions is back for a new school year.
But first, Glee's own scandal blogger, Jacob Ben Israel (Josh Sussman), starts the new season out with one simple question asked on behalf of the multi-media empire that is his blog: "What did you do over your big gay summer?"
The first person he asks is the object of his extremely creepy affections, Rachel. And I couldn't really listen to her answer because I was so horrified by the big pillowy explosion of lips through which she was speaking. Not even her long, thick false eyelashes and broad swipes of blush could distract me from them. Especially the upper lip. It looked like a shapeless slug under her nose. Who did this to you, Lea?
Anyway, there was nothing gay about Rachel's summer, except, of course, her two gay dads.

Have you come down from the "Glee" Season 2 premiere yet?
We're incredibly psyched with how the first episode back turned out. It feels like the show got back on track, much more like the first half of the first season. More storytelling and character work, great pathos, irreverence, songs paced out to have more impact.
First, we wanted to gauge how you feel about the three new recurring characters we'll see:
Spoilers! Why haven't you watched the premiere yet?
Sunshine Corazon (Charice) - Okay, wow! We've seen her on talk shows and YouTube before, but there's nothing like putting her in a "Glee" setting, making her look so cute and innocent and then letting her absolutely kill that song. We got goosebumps. Also, having her recruited by Vocal Adrenaline may mean we'll get some diva offs in the future.

Yep, Glee is back. And thankfully, it seems that the sophomore dramedy has worked out many of the plot kinks from its roller-coaster first season. Well, sort of.

HollywoodNews.com: Glee is back and as much as you want to hear about the new season, you probably don’t want spoilers. Luckily, a lot of this has been reported straight from Ryan Murphy and the stars’ mouths. I’ll discuss the parts that have already been out in the press and I’ll be vague about the surprises.
The promise of highlighting supporting characters is fulfilled. The season premiere begins with Jacob Ben Israel (Josh Sussman), so already a supporting character from the first year gets his own scene. Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr.) rocks some dance moves and has a significant speaking part.
I don’t really like what they did with the opening. It’s a segment that catches the audience up with the characters and actually expresses all the fan feedback. I think it goes overboard and I think it makes some offensive jokes.

The thirty-second video opens to a live report from video blogger Jacob Ben Israel on what has changed in the life of the New Directions' kid during their summer break. The "Glee" Season 2 premiere is almost here, but until Sept. 21, Zap2it has more details on what to expect when you tune in.
Let's just say that for "Glee" fans, the episode titled "Auditions" is a treat and addresses many of the concerns that were brought up for the second half of the freshman season. That's not to say that everything's perfect at McKinley High, because what would be the fun of that?
Zap2it had the opportunity to screen the first episode back at the "Glee" premiere party Tuesday night (Sept. 7), and we're here to share some of the goodies with you.
Spoiler alert: We won't try to ruin the biggest surprises, but a couple plot points will be addressed, so if you want the full, unsullied experience, don't read any further.
What you'll see:
Jacob Ben Israel (Josh Sussman) gets a good chunk of screen time, and he's hilarious.

"Glee's" McKinley High doesn't exactly have a shortage of geeks, but Jacob Ben Israel (Josh Sussman) is arguably the nerdiest nerd of all. Zap2it caught up with Sussman at the Young Hollywood Awards on May 13 to discuss Jacob's future on the show.
