The one and only Pam Grier will be honored by Cinema St. Louis with a ‘Women in Film Award’ when she’s in town for this year’s St. Louis International Film Festival. Pam’s iconic movie career began when she moved to Los Angeles in the late ‘60s from her native North Carolina at age 18. After a tiny role in Russ Meyer’s Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls (1970), she landed a job as a receptionist for American International Pictures where she was discovered by Jack Hill, an Aip director who cast her in a pair of women’s prison films: The Big Doll House (1971) and The Big Bird Cage (1972). Soon she was known as the “Queen of Blaxploitation” at a time when film roles for African-American women were, as Grier puts it, “practically invisible, or painfully stereotypical”.

Fans don't have to worry about ABC cancelling The Bachelorette any time too soon. The summer dating reality series was already renewed for a 14th season, back in mid-May. Still, this cycle is notable, as it is the first season in the entire Bachelor franchise to feature an African-American lead. Seasons 11 and 12 earned higher ratings than season 10. Will The Bachelorette's (overly tardy) step towards diversity draw an even larger audience in the 13th cycle? Stay tuned. The 13th installment of The Bachelorette follows Texas attorney Rachel Lindsay -- an alumna of the Nick Viall season of The Bachelor -- on her quest for true love. Lindsay and host Chris Harrison will welcome celebrity guests Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Ellen DeGeneres, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, and new country music star Russell Dickerson to the ABC TV show. Locations will include Hilton Head, South Carolina;...

Oh Bachelor Nation, blessed are we. Tonight was week two of The Bachelorette, and it was most excellent.
You know it’s going to be a good episode when it opens with Rachel Lindsay hanging out with her adorable dog, Copper, who is the real Mvp this season. But the producers were truly smiling down upon us this week, because not only did Monday’s episode feature more Copper screen time than most contestants on night one, but it also featured our new favorite Bachelor super-fans, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, and, of course, the most glorious character assassination DeMario-got-caught-red-handed-with-his-pants-down moment of all time.

Filming for The Bachelorette has already begun and Rachel Lindsay went on her first group date. She and the fellas went to a Southern California high school to play a little pick up basketball with none other than Kareem Abdul Jabbar. I gotta stop right there. How in the world did The Bachelorette land Kareem Abdul Jabbar? Has anyone ever heard this guy speak and know how smart, serious and political he is? Him being on the show just doesn’t fit at all. Plus he strongly criticized the show back in 2014 in an essay he wrote. In that piece

Showtime is developing a scripted limited series centered on boxing icon Muhammad Ali’s conscientious objection to the Vietnam War draft. In 1967, a dozen of the nation’s top black intellectuals and athletes — including Jim Brown, Bill Russell and Lew Alcindor (soon to become Kareem Abdul Jabbar — gathered to vet Ali’s stance on the issue. Eventually, the group supported his cause. “The Ali Summit” explores the intersection of civil rights and sports that continues to resonate today, and tracks the FBI’s crusade against Ali, Brown and other black leaders in the lead-up to Ali’s arrest for draft evasion at the peak.
