In a milestone move, Sony Pictures Television has unveiled “La Academia,” its first Spanish-language scripted series filmed in Spain for Prime Video and 3Cat.
“La Academia” is produced for Sony by Brutal Media, commissioned out of Sony Pictures Television’s international production group. Spt is distributing the series worldwide.
A scripted young adult drama series which Spt describes as being set in the high-pressure, high-drama world of elite youth soccer and its rising stars, ‘La Academia’ takes place at the Spanish training centre of the Apolo F.C., one of the best professional soccer clubs in the world.
There boys and girls from different social backgrounds fight for a shared dream which will inevitably create fiction between them: to make the first team and become the world’s next top players.
The young cast is led by new Spanish talent such as Ton Vieira, Marc Soler (“Upa Next”), Mia Sala-Patau...

Even the President of Mexico is standing behind Yahritza y Su Esencia after the group faced extreme backlash for comments they made about Mexican food.
On Thursday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador spent more than 10 minutes defending the Mexican-American group, saying he’d be open to seeing siblings Yahritza, Mando, and Jairo Martinez join Grupo Frontera during their free concert at Mexico City’s Zócalo ahead of Mexican Independence Day.
“There’s this group of kids… Yahritza and her brothers have a musical group. They were born there [in the U.S.], in Washington.

The members of Yahritza y Su Esencia are apologizing after Mexican fans took offense to comments the group made during a visit to Mexico City.
The Mexican-American musicians — siblings Yahritza, Mando, and Jairo Martinez — caught some flak earlier this week after they answered some questions about Mexico City during an interview. Specifically, Yahritza, in between giggles, told an interviewer that she doesn’t like hearing “the cars, the police sirens, and everything” when she wakes up in the city, while Jairo and Mando said they weren’t so fond of the food.

Tina Belcher (Dan Mintz) is perpetually stuck on the cusp of teenhood. After all, she's a character on an animated sitcom, which means she doesn't get to age. The eldest daughter of Bob (H. John Benjamin) and Linda (John Roberts) is desperately hormonal and fascinated by boys and butts (and especially boys' butts). She is ready to be a woman, but she isn't ready to give up her vivid imagination. She's eager to grow up but content to sink back into childhood. In short, she's a bundle of contradictions, and that's why we love her.
Over the years, "Bob's Burgers" has put Tina through the wringer. She's had her trials and tribulations, and she's occasionally gotten a taste of the grown-up freedom she desires. However, the pressures of being on a long-running sitcom mean she's doomed to continue learning the same lessons over and over. She's afraid of getting in trouble,...

A Brazilian family struggling with their ailing grandfather are offered an unusual way out in Carolina Markowicz’s darkly comic and suspenseful feature debut
Brazilian director Carolina Markowicz won awards left, right and centre for her touching 2018 short film The Orphan (O Órfão), about a queer teenage boy suddenly placed in an unfamiliar family. Her feature debut, Charcoal, once again centres around an outsider forcibly placed in the heart of family, but this time the algebra of sympathy is much more complex – and the threat of violence adds an unquantifiable extra variable.
In rural Brazil, Irene (Maeve Jinkings) holds her struggling nuclear family together as best she can. Her husband Jairo (Rômulo Braga) earns money seasonally burning charcoal, but when he’s out of work he spends what little he has on booze. The couple’s nine-year-old son Jean is a sweet kid who shares a bedroom with his bedridden...
