Michael Floyd Jones was born on October 12, 1953 in Spokane,
Washington, the only child of Floyd and Maxine Jones. From an early age
he was fascinated by creatures, science fiction and especially
dinosaurs. He would often be seen at family functions, with a small
block of modeling clay, sitting quietly in the corner working on it
with his hands and a few small tools. In a short time, he fashioned the
head or entire body of a dinosaur, or other creature. His passion for
this medium never ended. in 1978, he relocated to the Los Angeles area
and never looked back. His first major motion picture was "Sword and
the Sorcerer" in which he sculpted a talking crypt type device. It was
also his first movie credit. He went on to become a respected sculptor
and consultant for all things related to dinosaurs and science fiction.
He sculpted the character "Bruton" for the Disney film "Dinosaur" as
well as working on several smaller projects and for the company "Atomic
Monkey" working on licensed movie memorabilia. He died suddenly on Sept
24th at his home in North Hollywood, cause yet to be determined. He had
many friends in the movie business who mourn his passing and will
remember him always. He was survived by 7 first cousins, his only
remaining family. He was buried in Providence Rhode Island, near the
final resting place of his literary icon and hero, H.P. Lovecraft.
