Actor David Kagen has enjoyed a long and successful career over the last 30 years, spawning appearances on over 250 television series, multiple movie roles and an acting school that has been training performers for years. But even with all those credentials, there is one role that might end up being the milestone in his long career — Sheriff Garris in Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives.
Now, with the reissued versions of the “Tommy Jarvis Trilogy” recently being released, the actor is still surprised and humbled by the reactions of fan enthusiasm for a role he performed 23 years ago.
“I had received fan mail for years and years and I just never realized when we were making Jason Lives just how important the role of Sheriff Garris would end up being to the horror fans,” explained Kagen. “Because of their enthusiasm I decided to start making myself available for appearances and conventions.

Chicago – The reboot of “Friday the 13th” was another financially successful notch in the belt of Platinum Dunes, the film company behind the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Hitcher,” and “The Amityville Horror”. Making $90 million worldwide and more domestically than any previous Jason Voorhees movie (that didn’t include Freddy Krueger), “Friday the 13th” has a following that will be ecstatic with the excellent Blu-Ray release for the slasher title.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0 The Blu-Ray of “Friday the 13th” delivers everything fans could ask for. Not only do they present a longer and better cut of the film in the 9-minutes-longer “Extended Cut,” but the special features enhance the “Friday the 13th” experience and the technical transfer is nearly flawless.

It only figures that Paramount Pictures would continue their DVD re-releases of the original Friday the 13th flicks with that 2009 remake still generating so much discussion. After all, it's not like a Hollywood studio to overlook an opportunity to make some extra money. Still, I have to give them at least a little bit of credit. A lot of care was taken in producing those Deluxe Editions of Friday the 13th, part I, II and III. The transfers were, by-and-large, excellent, the sound was a definite improvement and a lot of creativity went into compiling all the special features. If a studio is going to double-dip, for fans this is how it should be done. While none of these films are what I'd call my personal favorites, they're all such silly guilty pleasures it's hard to work up much in the way of anger towards those who might feel different.

Jason Lives is awesome. It’s not quite as awesome as The New Blood but it’s far better than most of the rest of the series. As a standalone chapter it works fairly well, but it mostly serves as the middle ground between the Tommy Jarvis saga and the later entries with progressively more and larger explosions. Sporting the second best Jason behind Kane Hodder in C. J. Graham and remarkably engrossing direction by Tom McLoughlin, it could be considered the third or fourth best series entry without much argument. But that’s not really the point of these movies. Each of them tries something at least slightly different from the previous installments (with the notable exceptions of Parts 2 and 3), and McLoughlin’s movie has never disappointed me upon numerous revisits. If you want in-depth critical analysis you’re not gonna get it; this is just a kickass horror flick.
