We entertained the idea that Lisa Trammel was innocent at the beginning of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2.
In the middle, that opinion faltered, but towards the end, it became clear she was being framed for murder.
The jury returned a not-guilty verdict on The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Episode 10, which did not come as a surprise given what we saw when witnesses took the stand on The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Episode 8. Conveniently, everyone had something negative to say about Lisa.
Even if Lisa was innocent of the Bondurant murder, she was guilty of another murder, which I realized during The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Episode 5 review. And no, I have never read the books or watched the movie.
I'm not even sure if the series is true to the source material.
When the jury returned the not-guilty verdict, there was cause for celebration as this was a personal case for Mickey --...

Reviews From the Home Video Basket: 'Up In The Air' (George Clooney In Limbo, But With Good Results)
As noted in my "quickie" reviews of "The Road" yesterday, and of "Sus" earlier today, I watch lots of movies (old and new) weekly, mostly at home, on cable TV, Netflix and Amazon primarily, usually as I'm working on S&A, but I rarely write about what I screen, if only because I don't have the time. But I'll make a concerted effort to do so from now on, and publish here. Consider them quickies, continuing with 2009's "Up in the Air," starring George Clooney. The Jason Reitman-directed "Up In The Air" (an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Walter Kim) actually engaged me from start to finish,...

The director of Juno and Up in the Air tells Catherine Shoard why his latest film, Young Adult, about an alcoholic, embittered ghostwriter, is far darker than his previous movies
Jason Reitman knows he needs to work on his drinking problem. Specifically: develop one. It's a long road ahead. He was an abstemious teen, an undebauched student. At 34, he's yet to try a gin and tonic – "two things I haven't been able to get my mouth around" – but thinks he maybe should. "I'm a total cliche – the compensating for growing up a rich kid in Beverly Hills, the compensating for being the son of a famous director [Ghostbusters' Ivan]. The one break is I don't have an alcohol or drug addiction. Then I would be the complete picture. And I think it's beautiful that we're all cliches, I really do."

10– A Serious Man (18 Points)
Directed by Ethan Coen & Joel Coen
Blending dark humor with profoundly personal themes, The Coen Brothers deliver their most intimate film yet. Expanding upon some of the themes they’ve played with in the past, the film deals with everything from man’s search for meaning, the existence of God, pattern and randomness in the Universe, and the essential solitude of the human condition. Euphoric, extremely funny, deeply serious, sad, troubling, warm and thoughtful. The Coens have finished the decade as America’s pre-eminent film-makers.
9- Kynodontas (Dogtooth) (19 Points)
Directed by Giorgos Lanthimos
Infused with its own brand of hyper-stylized realism, Dogtooth feels so out of this world that it is quite impossible to pin down. The winner of the Prix Un Certain Regard at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, Dogtooth is so twisted and weird that the absurd comedy found in the films of Todd Solondz seems relatively lucid.

Is there ever an event that isn't made that much more special with a little Mila Kunis thrown into the mix? The Black Swan beauty was on hand at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Century City, California, for the 2010 Writers Guild Awards on Saturday. The big winners at last night's WGAs included Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner, who took home Best Adapted Screenplay honors for their big-screen adaptation of the Walter Kim novel Up in the Air, and The Hurt Locker screenwriter Mark Boal, who scored for Best Original Screenplay. (Both films will also be vying for statuettes in...

One time Oscar frontrunner "Up in the Air" hasn't had many moments to celebrate this awards season after opening to spectacular reviews, but director and co-screenwriter got to celebrate a singular achievement on Saturday night as the dramedy took home the 22nd USC Scripter Award. Given to the author of the original source material, in this case Walter Kim, and the adaptation screenwriters, Reitman and Sheldon Turner, "Air" beat out three of its Oscar competitors for Best Adapted Screenplay, "District 9," "An Education and "Precious." It was also no doubt sweet for Reitman as he's a former USC graduate. And while...

The soundtrack for Up In The Air the Movie, directed by Jason Reitman, features a powerful accoustic number by Chicago singer/songwriter Sad Brad Smith. “Help Yourself” was commissioned by Reitman after hearing Brad singing in a Chicago coffee shop. The song’s become a hit but unfortunately is not eligible for a Oscar nomination for original song as Brad incorporated music from his existing repertoire in the new track.
Up In The Air Soundtrack: Sad Brad- Help Yourself About the Movie: Up in the Air, released in December 2009, is an adaptation of Walter Kim’s 2001 novel of the same name. George Clooney plays Ryan Bingham, a “corporate downsizer” who makes his living traveling to workplaces and conducting employee layoffs for bosses who lack the nerve to do it themselves. Despite his acquisition of frequent flyer points, his casual approach to relationships has left him empty.

More of a fun little bridge in-between announcements rather than a list you can lay action on when crafting your Oscar prediction list, the USC Scripter Nominations came in last night. Established in 1988, the Scripter is an annual honor by the Friends of the USC Libraries "in recognition of the best film adaptation of a book or novella." Unlike the Oscars though, this award for adaptation goes to both the screenwriter and the original author. I wonder who will show up if the award goes to Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire.
Who knew that was an adaptation, right? The USC nominating committee apparently did in a list not entirely racked in surprises. Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner's version of Walter Kim's Up In The Air has been the most honored adaptation of the year thus far. Nick Hornby's take on Lynn Barber's memoir,...

Jason Reitman, the Oscar-nominated director of "Juno," says he is not interested in an actor's range, much preferring honesty. "I suppose I don't really enjoy acting," he admits frankly. "I find the most memorable and impressive roles are the ones in which actors magnify elements of their own personality and are forced into a kind of self-examination." Indeed, he says he writes screenplays with specific actors in mind, writing the part tailored not only to a voice but also a similarity with the performer or his persona.Based on the novel by Walter Kim, "Up in the Air" was no exception. For Reitman, George Clooney was the obvious choice for Ryan Bingham, a corporate downsizer and relentless business traveler who, after years of an unattached life, suddenly finds himself ready to make a romantic connection. Well, sort of. As with the protagonists in other Reitman films, Ryan's life choices and...

Up in the Air is Jason Reitman.s ode to traveling. Based on the novel by Walter Kim, the film explores the world of corporate travel. Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) is the king, with nearly 10 million airline miles and a system down pat. This is not the film about the grind of traveling. It.s a salute to the joys of it.

Director: Jason Reitman Writer(s): Walter Kirn (novel) Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner (screenplay) Starring: George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, Jason Bateman, Danny McBride Very loosely based on Walter Kim’s 2001 novel Up in the Air, the protagonist of Reitman’s film Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) is a career transition counselor; in other words, corporations hire him to fire their staff. The position not only requires an emotionless cold as ice personality but it also requires a lot of travel – thus Ryan spends a majority of his life up in the air, and is quickly approaching a milestone of ten million frequent flyer miles with American Airlines (a landmark reached by only six others in the history of aviation). Ryan relishes his relationship-free life – estranged from his family and with no friends or significant other to hold him down (the condo he owns, yet rarely frequents, looks more like...

Jason Reitman’s feature follow up to the Oscar Winning Juno is many things. Up In The Air is an indictment of the economic misfortunes and the erosive nature of corporate culture, it is a road movie populated by dysfunctional family members (who are not related), it is a love story in reverse peppered with distant epiphanies and existential pondering, it is not Juno, and it is funny. Very funny.
Ryan Bingham (a nuanced performance from man of the festival, George Clooney) is a corporate downsizer for hire. He spends most of his life in airports, flying to industrial states in America, visiting workplaces and firing the staff. When we meet him he is on the receiving end of abuse, disbelief, emotional fallout from blue collar workers being let go of (firing is not a word he or his company use). Up In The Air Directed by Jason Reitman Obscure alt-culture references are nowhere to be found in Jason Reitman`s follow-up to his sharply divisive runaway smash Juno. Instead, Up In the Air turns sharply towards the dramatic, a move that proved mildly disastrous for fellow comedy dynamo Judd Apatow just a few months ago, but which Reitman manages without sacrificing his film`s cohesiveness, largely by keeping an unswerving focus on his themes and generally keeping the proceedings in the realm of the credible. George Clooney, finally looking slightly weathered in a role that calls for it, stars as Ryan Bingham, a legend in the field of outsourced firing, a field that is experiencing a renaissance thanks to economic downturn. It`s Bingham’s job to break the news to the newly sacked when the higher-ups get too squeamish, a job that he takes with relative seriousness without seeming personally ruffled.

Up in the Air Directed by: Jason Reitman Written by: Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner (screenplay), Walter Kim (novel) Starring: George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Jason Bateman, Anna Kendrick, Danny McBride Being the son of Ivan Reitman may have its advantages, but let's be honest here: Jason Reitman has more than proven himself to be a gifted director in his own right with his first two critically-acclaimed films, Thank You for Smoking and Juno. He's following in his father's comedic footsteps, but choosing edgier material and smarter scripts, and is now well on his way to becoming one of those directors that A-list actors will basically drop everything to work with. Still, there are some people out there who believe that the success of his movies have been more due to the writing and the acting than his direction, and while I don't necessarily agree, I am pretty sure that his third film,...

Juno director Jason Reitman adapts Walter Kim's novel about a human resources administrator (George Clooney) who has just met the woman of his dreams. The trailer is a bit vague, showing a string of unexplained scenes as Clooney's character delivers a corporate speech, but Reitman's presence has grabbed my attention. Watch for this one on December 4.
The House of the Devil
An old school creep-fest influenced by movies from the 1970s. A college student takes a babysitting job to earn cash for a deposit on an apartment, but once she arrives at a creepy house in the middle of the woods she's told there is no baby and that night just happens to coincide with a lunar eclipse. I want to see this one right now. This will be out just in time for Halloween.

It looks like Paramount is pretty confident Up in the Air, a new comedy/drama starring George Clooney, will be able to float above the competition. For that reason, the studio recently announced it will release the movie in limited markets on November 13, then go wide on November 25 in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, /Film reports.
Up In the Air stars Clooney as a man who travels around the country to terminate corporate employees and occasionally give motivational speeches on the virtues of a life not weighed down by anything. However, his perspective suddenly changes when his company chooses to ground him and keep him at their corporate headquarters.
Paramount had planned to release the film on December 4th, but the positive buzz generated at film festival screenings caused the studio to rethink its strategy. By opening in select markets on November 13, then expanding a week later, it’s believed...

Tonight, the Toronto International Film Festival kicks off with the world premiere screening of "Creation," directed by Jon Amiel. The movie stars real-life husband and wife Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly as Charles Darwin and Emma Darwin, respectively. It is an adaptation of the Darwin bio "Annie's Box" by Randal Keynes.
Of course, "Creation" just kicks things off. There's a whole weekend of indie madness to immerse yourself in. Sure, those of us who aren't fortunate enough to be in Toronto are going to have to wait. But there are some good flicks coming out of the fest, stuff that you're sure to see hit theaters in some form in the coming months. Here are a few of the highlights we have to look forward to...

Now here's one I've actually seen, earlier this year at Sundance. I can't say if anything other than the name has changed, but...

Between voicing the lead in Wes Anderson’s The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and playing a “jedi warrior” in The Men Who Stare At Goats, George Clooney has been back on the rise as of late. Now we get to see him in a bit more dramatic light now that the first trailer for Up in the Air has hit the ‘net.
Directed by Juno’s Jason Reitman, Up in the Air is about the life of a corporate downsizing expert who’s life on the road becomes more interesting when he comes across the woman of his dreams. The film is based on the novel by Walter Kim, who also wrote the novel-turned-film Thumbsucker back in 2005.
Like Thumbsucker, this film brings in a laundry list of cameos, from Zach Galifianakis to J.K. Simmons to Jason Bateman to Danny McBride. The cast list looks to be a regular “who’s who” of independent comedies.

The third feature film from Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking, Juno) premiered last weekend at the Telluride Film Festival [1] to rave reviews and, believe it or not, even a little bit of Oscar buzz [2]. Based on the book by Walter Kim, the movie stars George Clooney as Ryan Bingham, a 35 year old divorced man who works as a consultant, flying around the country to fire people from other companies. His new goal in life: to get ten million frequent flyer miles before he loses his own job. Although a trailer is supposed to be out before the movie plays at the Toronto Film Festival next weekend, Paramount has released a short clip from the film online in order to keep the buzz rolling. My thoughts? Meh. It's pretty hard to gauge anything from this clip. I think I'll just wait until we see the damn thing on Sunday. The cast also includes Vera Farmiga,...

If there's an actor in show business better at talking up women in a movie than George Clooney, I have no idea who that would be. And the reasons pretty much speak for themselves. He stars in Jason Reitman's new kinda romantic kinda comedy Up in the Air, which has already played Telluride and hits Toronto in a few days.
In the film, based on the book by Walter Kim, Clooney plays a frequent business traveler who might have to give up all those miles and perks for a corporate promotion just as he meets the perfect woman for him, who's also on the road all the time.
Not surprisingly, the first clip from Up in the Air, released today by Apple, features Clooney and Vera Farmiga playing a game up one-upsmanship with their frequent flyer cards. It reminds me a good deal of one of my favorite movie...

There are two first-look posters for Up in the Air, the new Jason Reitman film starring George Clooney. It's already received some Oscar talk, for whatever that's worth in August, but the director of Juno and Clooney are definitely on voters' short lists sight unseen, so there's probably more to it than if two other people were behind this project.
The movie is based on the book by Walter Kim about a corporate sleazo who might have to give up his jet-setting life of nearly ten million frequent flyer miles for a coveted promotion just as he meets the on-the-go woman of his dreams. A good cast backs up Clooney: Vera Farmiga, Jason Bateman, Danny McBride, and Anna Kendrick, whose work I really enjoyed in the indie flick Rocket Science.
Slashfilm has one poster, with Clooney looking out onto the tarmac, and Empire presents the other one.

Jason Reitman's new film, a big screen adaptation of Walter Kim's novel Up in the Air, will premiere next month at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. Paramount Pictures has begun releasing promotional materials in anticipation of the film festival release, and have given us an exclusive look at the film's U.S. one-sheet. I love the simple and very proportionate design layout. I also think the tagline/pun "the story of a man ready to make a connection", is very fitting, especially if you've familiar with the story, and without being too cheesy. Check that out after the jump. And below we also have the first production photo, featuring George Clooney, although I'm not sure exactly where it came from. /Film reader Ben M sent it over. Click to enlarge. Here is the first production photo featuring George Clooney: Here is the exclusive look at the domestic...

George Clooney's always worth watching, and so far director Jason Reitman hasn't set a foot wrong, with Thank You For Smoking and Juno under his belt. So the prospect of a film from both of them - say, one called Up In The Air - is a positively tasty one, and we're delighted to bring you the new poster for the film.Clooney stars as a corporate downsizing expert (booo! Hissss!) who travels all over the Us in pursuit of more opportunities to fire people. As he approaches the 10million* frequent flyer miles milestone and meets the frequent-flying woman of his dreams (Farmiga), his cherished lifestyle is threatened as his company wants to move him to headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. We have a feeling that this will share more creative DNA with Thank You For Smoking than Juno, but in any case it sounds like an opportunity for sly Clooney comedy,...

Empire has released the first poster for Up in the Air, the next comedy from Thank You For Smoking and Juno director Jason Reitman. The film stars George Clooney as a corporate downsizing expert who travels all over the country looking for opportunities to relieve strangers of their jobs. And just as he's about to hit the 10 million frequent flyer miles mark, he meets the woman of his dreams, a fellow frequent flyer played by Vera Farmiga. Now his cherished lifestyle is threatened as his company wants to move him to headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. You won't get all of that from the poster, seen below. What you do get is a cleanly designed one-sheet that features Clooney, Farmiga and Anna Kendrick (Twilight) in an airport. What I get is a chance to talk about Jason Reitman, who can do no wrong in my mind -- leading me to be front and center, waiting...

Jason Reitman's new film, a big screen adaptation of Walter Kim's novel Up in the Air, will premiere at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. I've been a huge fan of Reitman's work, ever since discovering his early short films (which I highly recommend). Up in the Air is probably the best script I've read in the past 3 or 4 years, and if it is any indication of the final product - [insert hyperbolic statement here]. The dramedy about corporate downsizing and business travel will screen at the Canadian film fest as a Premiere Gala selection. And if you couldn't tell from my excitement -- yes, I'll be there. The Toronto premiere isn't really much of a surprise, especially considering Reitman's twitter profile has featured the short blurb: "A brief chronicle of my attempt to finish my film in time for the Toronto Film Festival". While a release date has not ...

What does last year's most talked-about teen flick have in common with this year's most talked-about pre-teen flick? Here's a hint: A director and an actress. Yes, Juno director Jason Reitman has finally chosen the female lead for his follow-up flick Up in the Air -- based on Walter Kim's (Thumbsucker) 2001 novel -- and he's chosen none other than Anna Kendrick. Who? Oh wait, I forgot to put this next to her name: Twilight actress Anna Kendrick.
The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Kendrick, who played one of Bella's friends in the poetic vamp tale, beat out other actresses like Emily Blunt and Juno herself, Ellen Page. Go figure! In the film, Kendrick will play "a young woman who finds herself pulled into the orbit of a "career transition counselor" (i.e. professional firer) careening through the airless world of business travel." Oh, and that "career transition counselor" will be played by George Clooney.
