However enthusiastic Netflix may be about The Crown’s revival, the show’s creator Peter Morgan has a very different priority.
With the recent rumors that suggest the streaming giant made a U-turn regarding the royal family’s story brought on screen, some may already be raving about The Crown’s potential prequel diving deeper into the royals’ life and its piquant details.
Though nothing has yet been decided about it for sure, it still seems like Netflix needs to be patient for a while as Morgan proceeds with its Broadway show’s big plans.
Are They Reviving The Crown?
According to Deadline’s reports, Peter Morgan is currently keeping himself busy with bringing his Broadway play Patriots to bigger screens. The brand new Broadway show that kicked its 12-week run off earlier in April stars Michael Stuhlbarg as Russian billionaire Boris Berezovsky recounting the latter’s story through his...

Captain America and Purge star Frank Grillo will lend his voice to the second season of James Gunn’s Peacemaker action comedy series tied to the DC universe.
On Friday, Gunn, in an Instagram post, announced Grillo was joining the cast in the role of Rick Flag Sr. for the next cycle of the original Max series. Among DC characters, Flag Sr. led the first Suicide Squad, or Task Force X. His son, Rick Flag Jr., is the current leader of the Suicide Squad.
Grillo in Peacemaker will voice Rick Flag as an animated character as part of “Creature Commandos” during the second season. “Christopher Smith and Rick Sr have a little unfinished business to take care of…,” Gunn teased in the social media post that included a photo of himself with Grillo.

With the century’s biggest royal drama show The Crown ending its run back in 2023, the TV industry was surely left with no other choice but to switch its attention to something else rather than The Royal Family’s life full of its own ups and downs. This probably was accepted by many production companies, but not by Netflix.
The streaming’s Royal-ish release of last month Scoop wasn’t expected to be a hit that massive, but the movie’s results seemingly provoked a big change of plans for Netflix in the nearest years.
Starring Gillian Anderson as journalist Emily Maitlis, Scoop follows a sequence of events that led Mailtis to carrying out a scandalous and viral interview with Queen Elizabeth II’s son Prince Andrew regarding his relationships with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Exclusive: Peter Morgan’s next project for Netflix is likely to be a film adaptation of his stage play Patriots rather than more of The Crown, according to sources close to the writer.
There has been a flurry of reports in the UK this week about The Crown returning following the success of Scoop, but Deadline understands that Morgan is planning to take a break from the royals.
One project Morgan is prioritizing is a screen version of Patriots, which chronicles the rise of billionaire Boris Berezovsky and the deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, Vladimir Putin.
The play recouped during its 12-week run at the Noel Coward Theatre in London’s West End, helping it transfer to Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
Netflix backed the Broadway show, marking its Broadway producing debut. A source said the deal also included a commitment to develop a Patriots film. The project is yet to be fully greenlit.

John Cena is one of the most respected and adored figures in Hollywood. He has made a name for himself through various pursuits, being successful as both an actor and a wrestler. He has become iconic in many ways and entered the fabric of popular culture. His acting roles have gained him a completely different type of audience, playing the role of The Peacemaker in the DC Universe, acting in Barbie, being a part of Argylle, and even adorning the skin of Dominic Toretto in the Fast and Furious series.
John Cena in The Peacemaker
Despite all these roles, he gets to star in an adaptation of a game. A recent update may change this as the actor might be getting a role in a highly anticipated adaptation of an iconic video game.

From fake news in 1902 to livestreaming a man asleep – and everything in between, the big picture gets a bit lost
Although being distributed in the UK with the title Fantastic Machine, this documentary about the camera through history originally had the much more prolix, pretentious and charming moniker And the King Said, What a Fantastic Machine. The line is a quote attributed to Edward VII who is said to have reacted with awe when he saw a film of his own coronation – although the footage in question was not of his actual coronation but filmed by French director Georges Méliès with French actors in a Paris studio in advance, the first example of “fake news”.
That is fitting because here directors Axel Danielson and Maximilien Van Aertryck explore the camera and the moving image’s ability to dazzle, deceive and delight through history. That said, their thematic intent seems to...

King Charles and Queen Camilla (formerly Camilla Parker Bowles) have been married since 2005, but they met and began dating more than five decades ago. Their relationship was halted when then-Prince Charles went overseas with the Royal Navy in the ’70s. However, they began seeing each other again during Charles’ marriage to Princess Diana, making Camilla his mistress for several years.
But Camilla wasn’t the only member of her family who became a mistress, and Charles reportedly embarked on a quest to find and buy up some of the jewels that belonged to Camilla’s relative and gift them to his wife.

Kate Middleton’s cancer announcement shocked royal watchers in March 2024. News of the diagnosis followed months of speculation after the Princess of Wales underwent a planned abdominal surgery. The latest on Kate’s health also came shortly after King Charles III revealed his cancer diagnosis.
While two working royals dealing with cancer diagnoses present a unique set of challenges, it is by no means uncharted territory for the House of Windsor. The United Kingdom’s ruling family has an extensive history of cancer among members of its family tree.

According to a new book about the royal family, Prince Philip had a nasty nickname for Meghan Markle. Ironically, it refers to a former family member with a scandalous past.
Prince Philip’s private nickname for Meghan Markle stung
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward is the author of a new book, My Mother and I. Seaward discussed the private nickname Prince Philip bestowed on Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s wife.
Philip, Queen Elizabeth’s husband for 73 years, reportedly wasn’t a fan of the former Suits star. But in turn, he gave her a nasty nickname representative of a similar royal wife.
Per an excerpt published by The New York Post, Seward wrote that the duke allegedly called Markle the “Duchess of Windsor.” This was reportedly a stinging reference to the title held by the much-maligned American socialite Wallis Simpson who married King Edward VII.

Exclusive: The Crown’s Imelda Staunton will lead a revival of the classic Jerry Herman-Michael Stewart Broadway musical Hello, Dolly! into the Andrew Lloyd Webber-owned London Palladium next summer.
Echoing words in composer and lyricist Herman’s titular number, the show’s producer Michael Harrison observed that “it’s so nice to have Imelda back on stage where she belongs.”
Directed by Dominic Cooke, the production — with Staunton playing matchmaker Dolly Levi — will begin performances at the Palladium on July 6 for a strictly limited 10-week season ending September 14.
The Palladium, designed by Frank Matcham, opened on a site close to Oxford Circus in 1910, the year King Edward VII died. It was to become a favorite venue of the Royal Family, often hosting the annual Royal Variety Show in the presence of the late Queen Elizabeth II, great-granddaughter of Edward VII.

Michael Gambon, the Irish-English actor best known for his role as Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in six of the “Harry Potter” movies, has died, Variety has confirmed. He was 82.
“We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon,” his family said in a statement. “Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia.”
While it is easier for a character actor, often working in supporting roles, to rack up a large number of credits than it is for lead actors, Gambon was enormously prolific, with over 150 TV or film credits in an era when half that number would be impressive and unusual — and this for a man whose body of stage work was also prodigious.

Prince Harry choked up while in court discussing his lawsuit against Mirror Group Newspapers in London Court.
The Duke is suing them for hacking his phone and using illicit methods to gather information on him between 1996 and 2009.
He was on the stand for about eight hours and later responded to questions by his lawyer explaining that “it is a lot.”
He continued on, “For my whole life, the press misled me, covered up the wrongdoing, and sitting here in court knowing that the evidence in front of them and for Mr. Green to suggest I’m speculating… I’m not sure what to say about that.”
Andrew Green Kc, who is the barrister for the Mirror Group Newspapers, questioned the Duke during court on Tuesday. He has been known to be a “beast in court.”
During the trial, he asked Harry many questions based on specific information about his phone being hacked.

Prince Harry‘s court case against Britain’s Mirror Group Newspapers (Mgn)over alleged phone hacking is historic. The last member of the royal family to appear in a courtroom before the duke was Princess Anne for an attack by her dog in 2002. But the royal last royal to testify in a court case was back in 1891 when Queen Elizabeth II‘s great-grandfather, King Edward VII, did.
On June 7, 2023 Harry was cross-examined for the second day in a row. While some don’t believe that his testimony and lack of evidence have done him any favors, it should be noted that this is a civil case, not a criminal one and therefore the burden of proof is different. The prince only needs to convince Judge Timothy Fancourt on the balance of probabilities that he was a victim of unlawful information gathering, rather than beyond a reasonable doubt. Now, a royal...

Prince Harry is back in court this week as part of his ongoing legal battle against Mirror Group Newspapers (Mgn) over alleged unlawful information gathering. Following his hearing back in March, the Duke of Sussex took the stand at the High Court of the Royal Courts of Justice in London on June 6 to testify against the publisher of the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, and Daily Express. As a result, the 38-year-old prince became the first British royal to give evidence in court in 130 years, according to Reuters. King Edward VII was the last person to do so after he testified as a witness in a divorce case in 1870 and again in 1890 in a slander trial over a card game.

Alex Jennings is one of those actors whose face you recognize but whose name may escape American audiences. He portrayed Prince Charles in “The Queen” and his great uncle, King Edward VII, a decade later in “The Crown.” This fine character actor held his own opposite Maggie Smith in “The Lady in the Van” and Hugh Grant in “A Very English Scandal.” Jennings is a consummate thespian who excels in supporting roles but rarely receives the credit he so richly deserves.
His shines in Hulu’s medical drama “This is Going to Hurt,” based on the book of the same name by the show’s creator, Adam Kay. Ben Whishaw is Kay, a doctor working in an NHS hospital in the mid-noughties, while Jennings is Nigel Lockhart, the Chief Consultant in the ward. This limited series is a masterful blend of comedy and drama and is one of the year’s most exquisitely crafted stories.

Camilla has a special fondness for certain pieces of jewelry that were once owned by her great-great-grandmother, Alice Keppel, who was famously King Edward VII’s mistress. In fact, Camilla’s connection to her has reportedly led King Charles to seek out and purchase Alice’s jewelry collection.

It used to be common for royals to marry members of their families. Even though royals nowadays are much freer to marry whomever they choose, some still marry royal ancestors or people they are at least distantly related to.
Despite growing up in different countries, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are distant cousins. Below are other royal family members who share common ancestors with their spouses.

Camilla Parker Bowles will be crowned queen consort alongside King Charles III. The title of queen consort is different than other royal family titles and is symbolic rather than powerful. Historically, the number of women who have held this title are very few. Why is the significance of a queen consort, and who has held the title before Camilla? Here are the details.

According to Express, Camilla’s title, queen consort, will not change her status within the royal family. It is a role that rests entirely on her marriage to the king. This means she will not ascend to the throne if Charles dies before her.

This includes Prince William’s children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Since the coronation celebration of King Charles III was placed on the royal calendar for May 2023, Charles’ reign has become part of a broader plan to usher in a monarchy steeped in tradition but with more contemporary aspects. However, that doesn’t mean Charles doesn’t have plans to break a longstanding, outdated tradition. His coronation ceremony will do just that in one fundamental way.

King Charles III is expected to restore a more active monarchy, reports The Wall Street Journal. Charles will continue to modernize the royal family further to move forward with the United Kingdom’s diversity and current economic troubles.
This will be balanced with the idea of the royal family as a legacy worth continuing. He will also have to represent its continuity while embracing change.

As the date of King Charles III’s coronation gets closer, Buckingham Palace is releasing details about what to expect from the ceremony. This includes which crown Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles will wear to the coronation.
Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles will wear Queen Mary’s crown
The king will wear the traditional St. Edward’s crown, which has been used to crown British monarchs since the 13th century. King Charles might not get a choice in what his crown looks like, but the queen consort is allowed to put her own spin on her headwear.
According to Buckingham Palace, Queen Camilla will wear a crown that was initially designed for Queen Mary in 1911. However, the queen consort has had the crown reset with jewels from the late Queen Elizabeth’s personal collection: the Cullinan III, IV, and V diamonds.

"The Crown" is back with a new season, a new cast, and a new take on historical events that are creeping closer and closer to the present day. The first episode of season five, set in 1991, is titled "Queen Victoria Syndrome" and spends a lot of time talking about that very idea. As it so happens, the phrase is a catchy way of indicating the growing dissatisfaction with the monarchy that plagues the characters throughout the season.
What Is Queen Victoria Syndrome?
As used in "The Crown," the phrase "Queen Victoria Syndrome" refers to an aging, long-reigning monarch who begins to be perceived as stuffy, outdated, and out of touch with the public while simultaneously resisting any efforts at change or any suggestions of stepping aside. In the first episode of the new fifth season, it's a headline citing a new public poll from the Sunday Times that seems to...

Netflix has been in hot water recently following a leak about Episode 1 of the upcoming fifth season of The Crown, and now it’s affecting some of its other royal-themed releases. According to Deadline, the Crown episode, titled “Queen Victoria Syndrome,” is said to focus on a meeting Prince Charles had back in 1991 with then-UK Prime Minister John Major, where he complained about having to wait so long to inherit the throne. The episode title references Queen Victoria, who sat on the throne for 63 years before Edward VII could inherit the throne. The former prime minister has since come forward to claim that no such conversation ever took place, calling it out as “malicious nonsense.” The script also reportedly references a real poll that ran in the UK Sunday Times at the time, which argued that an aging monarch dates the monarchy, and suggested it would be best if...

After seven decades, the United Kingdom has a new woman to call queen.
Charles’ wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will be known as Queen Consort — a title that came with Queen Elizabeth II’s blessing after years of contention, dating back to the days before she even married Prince Charles.
It wasn’t always a given that the 75-year-old Camilla would take the title, even though it gives her none of the sovereign’s powers.
While the wife of a king is traditionally crowned queen, the question of what title Camilla would hold when Charles became king had been a tricky one for many years. That was due to sensitivity about her status as his second wife — and the wave of grief that washed over Britain following the death of his former wife, Princess Diana, in a car crash in 1997.

Get well soon, Queen Elizabeth! The 92-year-old monarch underwent a secret cataract surgery last month, Buckingham Palace confirmed in a statement on Friday, June 8. "I can confirm that The Queen successfully underwent a short, planned procedure to treat a cataract last month," a palace spokesperson said, according to People. Cataract surgery is typically performed in an outpatient facility — the Queen reportedly checked into King Edward VII's hospital for the day — is very common and generally safe, and is often done to correct blurry vision and increased glare from lights. Since colors may appear brighter to a patient who has undergone cataract surgery, it is advised that a person wears sunglasses while outdoors following the procedure. The Queen on May 31. The Harry Potter author was granted the prestigious title by Prince William at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, saying she was "deeply honored and proud" to receive the honor, which is limited to 65 people "of distinction" at any one time.
"To be included in the distinguished and diversely talented company of the other Companions of Honor, especially as a female writer, is a particular privilege," added Rowling, who was honored for her services to literature and philanthropy.
The decoration comes nearly 20.5 years after the U.K. release of the first novel in her best-selling fantasy series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. In 2001, she also received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) from His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, for services to children's literature.

Prince Harry has quite a few family memories at the location that he and Meghan Markle will marry in May.
The newly engaged couple will wed at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, England, which is also where Harry’s father, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles married in 2005.
The chapel is much smaller than Westminster Abbey, where Harry's brother, Prince William, married Kate Middleton in 2011 and Prince Charles married Princess Diana, Harry and William's mother, in 1981. St. George’s Chapel seats 800 while Westminster Abbey can fit a whopping 2,000 people.

Going to the chapel!
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot at St. George’s Chapel in May, they will be joining a long list of royals who said their vows in the historic venue.

If you haven't already heard, let us be the first to tell you: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged! The adorable couple announced their engagement via Twitter on Monday, revealing that Harry actually popped the question earlier in November. While the Prince of Wales (aka Prince Charles) was the one to share the exciting news (which caused the internet to lose it, naturally) we were especially looking forward to hearing how Prince William and Kate Middleton would react. Fortunately we didn't have to wait long! Shortly after Harry and Meghan's engagement was announced and the pair attended a gorgeous photocall at Kensington Palace to mark the occasion, Harry's older brother and sister-in-law spoke out on Twitter as well. "We are very excited for Harry and Meghan," Kensington Palace's official account posted in a tweet. "It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.
