Celebration of cinema has always been extended by the Oscars honoring the prowess of cinematic excellence with one of the most recognized accolades. Throughout the rich history of cinema, there have been several movies based on true events, that left a mark among moviegoers or in the pages of history.
A still from Lawrence of Arabia
Also, movies that are based on true events are another way of documenting the particular incident, albeit a portion of fictionalization may alter the accuracy, but for cinema’s sake, filmmakers enjoy the basic freedom to have their own touch to the narrative. Throughout history, movies like The Great Ziegfeld by Robert Z. Leonard, or it would be criminal not to mention David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia, and several other movies have claimed the Best Picture Oscars. Here is a list of six movies that won an Oscar in the Best Picture category.

“Members of the British royal family are required to travel with a black ensemble in the case of the monarch or another senior royal passing while they are traveling,” royal history expert Jessica Storoschuk told Page Six.

Set dressers organized the scene by setting props in a field for a TV drama about the aftermath of the bombing in Lockerbie starring Colin Firth in Bathgate, Scotland, last week.
The miniseries Lockerbie examines the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. The bombing took 270 lives: 259 of them were on the flight and 11 lives were lost as the wreckage damaged their homes.
Props were set up to look like the aftermath of the bombing. The crew is carrying the parts of the plane parts including seats and parts of a wing.
In 2016, Firth sat down with uInterview to talk about relating to his character, Bill Haydon, in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
When asked about his connection to the character, Firth exclusively told uInterview that, “[Haydon] handles things with great authority and great aplomb, and I’m not saying I am capable of doing that, but I do find those things attractive.

Kate Middleton’s cancer announcement shocked royal watchers in March 2024. News of the diagnosis followed months of speculation after the Princess of Wales underwent a planned abdominal surgery. The latest on Kate’s health also came shortly after King Charles III revealed his cancer diagnosis.
While two working royals dealing with cancer diagnoses present a unique set of challenges, it is by no means uncharted territory for the House of Windsor. The United Kingdom’s ruling family has an extensive history of cancer among members of its family tree.

We still call her Kate Middleton.
Let’s call her by her proper name: Catherine, The Princess of Wales, wife of William, The Prince of Wales, first in line to the British throne.
Therefore, she is our future queen and mother of a future king in her son Prince George.
Only the most hard-hearted out there could fail to have been utterly moved by the Princess’s video statement issued Friday about her cancer diagnosis and the revelation that she is receiving chemotherapy.
The actor Dominic West spoke of the “tumultuous times” depicted in the last couple of seasons of The Crown. The Netflix show is a drama.
The Princess of Wales’ medical condition is real life; it’s happening now. That we even know about it is extraordinary in itself.
Once upon a time the royals themselves weren’t told they had cancer!

Three years after winning an Emmy for portraying Margaret Thatcher, Gillian Anderson returns to British politics as a member of the fourth estate in “Scoop.” The Netflix film stars the actress as the “Newsnight” journalist Emily Maitlis, who sat down for a squirm-inducing interview with Prince Andrew, Duke of York, portrayed by a physically transformed Rufus Sewell. The actor has of late been playing an American politician on the streamer’s “The Diplomat.” Watch the full “Scoop” trailer below.
The trailer begins with a voiceover promising that “an hour of television can change everything.” The film follows Billie Piper’s producer Sam McAlister, who is determined to land this major sit-down despite being told she is “chasing a story we’re never gonna get.” Her zeal only intensifies when details about Andrew’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein become public knowledge. When she does score a clandestine meeting with Prince Andrew to win him over,...

British royal family news reveals that Princess Kate has achieved Yeti status due to her disappearance from public life and the vast speculation that’s caused.
Conspiracy theorists went off the rails on Sunday after a photo of her, no doubt meant to calm the waters, was “killed” by news agencies hours later. The image was manipulated by the source they said, and news of Kate’s death roared again.
Of course there is no reason to believe anything untoward about the princess, Kensington Palace said she would not be seen until after Easter following a January “planned abdominal surgery.” That being said, here are five other times the monarchy has chosen to play the public and not tell the whole truth. To their detriment.

Screenwriter whose Oscar at the age of 73 for The King’s Speech came after 40 years in the film business
At 73 the oldest ever recipient of the best original screenplay Oscar for his script for the period drama The King’s Speech, David Seidler became an overnight spokesman for two beleaguered groups: stutterers and senior-age screenwriters. Finally receiving recognition from the youth-fixated entertainment industry after more than 40 years of service, Seidler, who has died aged 86, joked in his acceptance speech: “My father always said that I would be a late bloomer.”
That he voiced his satisfaction in flawless, actorly cadences was further testimony to Seidler’s persistence. The film – about King George VI’s struggle to overcome his speech impediment and rally the British nation against Hitler – was a labour of love born from his attempts to overcome his own stutter. These began in 1940, when a terrified Seidler, not quite three years old,...

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, caught royal watchers by surprise in 2020 when they announced that they were stepping down from royal duties and moving to America. What was even more surprising for the royal family were the public shots the duke and duchess took at members of the Firm and the monarchy as a whole after they left.
At first, it seemed like the couple just wanted their truth out there. Somewhere along the line though the constant attacks on an institution that couldn’t fight back along with two very wealthy and privileged people always playing the victim card, got old. The Sussexes finally saw that themselves and in 2024, decided to do a complete rebrand and refrain from airing out any more dirty royal laundry.

Rufus Sewell was reluctant to play Prince Andrew in 'Scoop' at first. The 56-year-old actor portrays the Duke of York in the new Netflix film about the royal's calamitous 2019 'Newsnight' interview with Emily Maitlis regarding his connection to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein but was hesitant about the project as he lacks "mimicry" abilities.Speaking at the Next on Netflix event in London on Thursday (14.03.24), Rufus explained: "I actually didn't say yes until I'd worked on my own for a while."I had an instinct about (Prince Andrew) and felt that there was something that I could bring to him, but I'm not someone who has a natural gift of mimicry."I have a good ear. I've always been good with accents. But there are certain really great actors who just have that preternatural ability to just do it. I can't. I have to come up with a different way.

Shortly before her bombshell chat with Prince Andrew, Maitlis nervously touches up her makeup a bathroom at Buckingham Palace alongside McAlister.

Another royal scandal is getting the Netflix treatment.
After “The Crown” concluded in 2023, the streaming platform is releasing film “Scoop” about the infamous 2019 BBC “Newsnight” interview between anchor Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew. “The Crown” alum Gillian Anderson portrays Maitlis in the movie based on the former “Newsnight” editor Sam McAlister’s book “Scoops: Behind The Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interview.” Rufus Sewell plays Prince Andrew, the Duke of York at Buckingham Palace.
“Scoop” centers on the behind-the-scenes flurry to land an interview with Prince Andrew after the royal was listed in court papers as part of a U.S. civil case against convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. During the “Newsnight” broadcast, Prince Andrew addressed the allegations made by Epstein and his victims. Prince Andrew alleged that he only knew Epstein through socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who was later convicted on sex-trafficking charges in December 2021. Maxwell’s story...

It may be hard to imagine Prince George going by another name. But Kate Middleton reportedly had her “heart set” on another moniker for her and Prince William’s oldest son. Ahead, George’s full name and who the Prince and Princess of Wales turned to for help.
Prince George’s full name
The Prince and Princess of Wales officially became parents on July 22, 2013, with the birth of George. William and Kate welcomed their now-10-year-old son at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, England, where on the steps of the Lindo Wing, he was introduced to the world.
William and Kate didn’t announce his name until two days later, on July 24, 2013, when they shared they’d decided to call their newborn Goerge Alexander Louis.
Then known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate noted in their official announcement their son would be formally referred to as Prince George of Cambridge.

The news that King Charles was diagnosed with cancer sent shockwaves through royal watchers worldwide. The stunning news of the monarch’s health led journalist Piers Morgan to declare: “two days ago, everything seemed fine” in a new editorial.
King Charles’ cancer diagnosis stunned royal family members, claims Piers Morgan
Journalist Piers Morgan discussed King Charles’ cancer diagnosis on his television series Piers Morgan Uncensored. He believes the royal family was shocked by the king’s health battle.

Another day, another book on the British royal family. After the drama surrounding Omid Scobie’s Endgame and claims in a King Charles III biography comes yet another tome with bombshells. This time, it’s royal biographer Ingrid Seward’s My Mother and I, about the king and his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Excerpts ahead of the book’s release include bombshell claims about everyone from the late monarch and Princess Diana to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Here are just a few.
1. Royal biography bombshell: Prince Philip warned the queen about Meghan Markle
According to an excerpt of Seward’s biography published by the Daily Mail, Prince Philip, who died in April 2021 at the age of 99, wasn’t exactly a fan of the Duchess of Sussex.
While Queen Elizabeth “approved” of Meghan “from their very first meeting,” Seward wrote, Philip had reservations. “One of the few wary of succumbing to her charm offensive,...

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, welcomed their second child in 2021. After months of speculation about what they would name their daughter, the couple shared her full name Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. While her middle name is a tribute to the duke’s late mother, Princess Diana, her first name immediately drew ire from some royal watchers who recall that “Lilibet” was actually Queen Elizabeth’s personal family nickname. It’s what the late queen used to call herself when she was a toddler and couldn’t quite pronounce her name. The moniker was used over the years by the queen’s close friends and relatives including her father King George VI, her sister Princess Margaret, and her husband Prince Philip.
There was then a bit of back and forth about whether Meghan and Harry asked the queen about using the name before they chose to give it to their daughter.

An aide close to the late queen states Elizabeth was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” upon learning of the news.

Throughout Princess Diana‘s childhood, her family, the Spencers, had a longstanding relationship with the royal family. She was so close to the members of the House of Windsor that she had a loving and surprising nickname for Queen Elizabeth.
Princess Diana had a sweet nickname for Queen Elizabeth growing up
As a young girl, Princess Diana regularly interacted with the royal family. The Spencer family had been closely allied with the British royal family for several generations; her grandmothers, Cynthia Spencer, Countess Spencer, and Ruth Roche, Baroness Fermoy, had served as ladies-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.
Therefore, there was a base relationship between the Spencer family and the House of Windsor. So when she married into the royal family, Diana wasn’t as unfamiliar with their clan as history has written.

King Charles may follow in the footsteps of Danish Queen Margrethe, who recently abdicated the throne in favor of her son, Prince Frederik. Charles, 75, could follow the same path so his son Prince William could have the crown and enjoy a long reign similar to that of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. Here’s what an expert predicts.
Prince William could ascend to the top job in the royal family sooner than later: Here’s why
According to royal expert and biographer Phil Dampier, King Charles may allow Prince William to rise to the top job in the House of Windsor and take the crown earlier than expected. Traditionally, a monarch does not ascend to the throne until their predecessor has died.

Prince Andrew’s back in the news. But don’t expect to hear a word about it from the British royal family. According to an expert, Buckingham Palace won’t comment on the recent unsealing of legal documents related to the Duke of York’s Jeffrey Epstein connection. The reason, they say, is simple: Andrew’s not a working royal.
Unsealed legal documents mention Andrew more than 70 times in relation to 2015 Epstein lawsuit
After settling a lawsuit brought by Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre out of court, Andrew’s relationship with Epstein is, once again, making headlines.
The reason behind it? Legal documents from Giuffre’s 2015 lawsuit against Ghislaine Maxwell going public. According to Newsweek, Andrew’s name appeared in the recently unsealed files more than 70 times.
Although many of the claims made against Andrew had been heard before, the renewed interest in his connection with Epstein continues. Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace...

Relationships between Prince Harry and other senior royal family members were already strained in late 2019. Behind the scenes, he and his wife, Meghan Markle, were reportedly unhappy in their roles. Just months before announcing their exit from the positions, a video featuring Prince George released by Buckingham Palace reportedly pushed the Duke of Sussex “to the edge.” It was “the last straw” for Prince Harry, says a royal commentator.
Prince Harry was pushed ‘to the edge’ by a Buckingham Palace video
The Duke of Sussex reportedly was pushed “to the edge” by a Buckingham Palace video. It depicted Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, Prince George, and then-Prince Charles together as George stirred the ingredients for Christmas pudding.
“It was charming stuff, most notably young Geroge’s furrow-browed focus and vigor such that the late Queen, toward the end, pointedly gets out of the firing line,” said royal commentator Daniela Elser.

The Princess of Wales paired the Lovers Knot Tiara with a blush-colored gown at the Buckingham Palace Diplomatic Reception as she stood alongside her husband, Prince William, at the royal event. She previously wore this exact outfit in the summer of 2023.

Faraway Downs is a refurbished version of the original film, Australia, which was released in 2008. Hulu released this film in six episodes, which briefly touches upon the history of the land down under. The movie also touched upon the racism faced by the blacks and Aboriginals of Australia at the hands of the colonizers. The streaming giant took this movie and delivered a series that had scenes that were not initially included in the film. The original film itself was two hours and forty-five minutes long. However, in the series, many new scenes were added to push the narrative forward, and there were a lot of changes in the plotline as well.
Spoilers Ahead
Since Australia is a movie, unlike Faraway Downs, the writer and the director had to depend on a time-bound screenplay. There is an elaborate scene in the show involving Lady Sarah’s landing in Australia, which...

Being queen isn’t something the late Queen Elizabeth II ever asked for. In fact, it wasn’t something anyone imagined would happen until one decision by another member of the royal family changed her fate.
At the time of her birth in 1926, then-Princess Elizabeth was third in the line of succession to the British throne behind her Uncle Edward (known in the family as David) and her father Prince Albert. With Edward as the heir apparent, any children of his would have bumped Elizabeth further down the line as would their children so the possibility she would ever become the monarch was slim. That is until her grandfather died and her uncle became king but chose to abdicate so he could marry Wallis Simpson.

Historically, rules on marriage haven’t worked out well for the British royal family. Take, for instance, King Charles III marrying — and later divorcing — Princess Diana after Queen Camilla was deemed unsuitable. Or Princess Margaret being blocked from marrying divorcé Peter Townsend only to have a failed marriage to Antony Armstrong-Jones. These days, however, the rules have changed. So much so, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie aren’t simply living by the royal family’s marriage “rule.” According to an expert, they’ve “embraced” it.
Who are Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie married to?
The daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Beatrice and Eugenie, are among the younger generation of royals with somewhat recent royal weddings.

However, there are also some who think the new monarch should come down harder on the duke and duchess and has made a “mistake” by not doing so.
But at least one commentator completely on board with how the king is handling Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is explaining how the monarch’s actions make the Sussexes look “foolish.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly fall into a new category within the royal family
Royal commentator Daniela Esler writes in an essay for News.com.au that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle now fall within a new category within the royal family. She claims King Charles is doing a “reset” of senior royals.
While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer working royals, their status has not changed within the Firm. Therefore, they remain senior royals due to Harry’s rank as fifth in line to the British throne.
But that doesn’t mean King Charles cannot categorize his estranged son and daughter-in-law into an entirely new category. According to Elser,...

This means that when King Charles is sick or traveling, he can call on Harry or any of his other Counselors of State. Think of it as the British royal family’s version of the U.S.’s Lieutenant Governor role.
