The Sex and the City franchise may have experienced a recent resurgence thanks to its Max spin-off. But there was a time when Chris Noth felt there was no coming back for the show.
Why Chris North felt ‘Sex and the City’ was done for Chris Noth | Jason Howard/Bauer-Griffin/Gc Images
Before being written off the series, Noth was a major part of the hit HBO show. His character, Mr. Big, carried over to the series’ two movies. Before And Just Like That, some fans wondered if there might be a third installment in the film series. Noth was one of many actors who was asked about the possibility of a second sequel.
“Everybody always asks me and I’m always the last to know. Really! I’ll believe the film when they call Action and until they do that its all just useless chit chat,” Noth once told Vogue.

It’s finally happening! Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, and Emma Thompson are returning for another chapter in the Bridget Jones saga with Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Universal Studios and Working Title are the studios, with Michael Morris, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Leo Woodall (The White Lotus) joining the cast.
Inspired by Helen Fielding’s popular novels and a previous column she wrote as the title character for The Independent, the Bridget Jones film series revolves around Zellweger’s Bridget Jones, a hapless single woman lost in love who explores a complex web of relationships. The series began in 2001 with Bridget Jones’s Diary, followed by the sequels Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Bridget Jones’s Baby, debuting in 2004 and 2016. The “Netflix and chill” generation has just been confronted with, well, “Sex.”
“Sex and the City,” which wrapped up its six-season run on HBO in 2004, has arrived on the streaming platform, and is currently ranked at No. 7 in the Netflix Top 10.
Netflix’s firehose of viewers represents something different for Carrie Bradshaw and the gang. Though “Sex and the City,” one of the class of early shows that led the pay-cable revolution, is utterly entwined with HBO’s brand, it’s also broken out before, in cut-for-basic-cable reruns on E! and two theatrically released feature films. But the sheer magnitude of potential viewership on Netflix, and “Sex and the City’s” coexistence there with such an undifferentiated mass of content, strips away the context in which the four fashionable Manhattanites have to this point existed.
Which presents both an exciting twist in the miraculously long life of this work of popular art,...

Looks like the internet won’t have Che Diaz to kick around anymore. According to multiple sources, Sara Ramírez won’t be returning to “And Just Like That” for its third season, which starts production later this year for a 2025 premiere on Max.
Ramírez has played nonbinary standup comedian Che Diaz since Season 1, during which the character became a meme-generating object of mockery. In a cover story interview for Variety‘s Pride issue in June 2022, Ramírez said they had tried to avoid the online commentary. “Other people’s opinions of a character — that’s not something I can allow into my process,” they said. “I choose what I receive, right? That’s the beauty of being grown — I don’t have to receive everything!”

The cast of And Just Like That… will return to the set this spring, ending more than a year-long filming hiatus. The Sex and the City reboot wrapped filming for season 2 of the series last March, and while season 3 of the show was confirmed by Max months ago, there appeared to be absolutely no movement on production. Now, we have a date. Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, Charlotte York, and their pals will take over the streets of Manhattan in May.
‘And Just Like That…’ season 3 will begin filming in New York City this Spring
And Just Like That… fans have finally gotten the update they needed to breathe easier. After an extremely long hiatus, the cast has an official filming date. Entertainment Tonight caught up with several of the reboot’s stars at the Michael Kors Fall/Winter Fashion Show earlier this month and learned exactly when the cast will return to the set.

Sex and the City expanded its audience and its story with its 2008 feature named after the series. But the film’s star, Sarah Jessica Parker, felt the second movie had an element to it that the first lacked.

The first Sex and the City feature was such a success that it spawned a second highly profitable movie. But Sex and the City 2 was very different from the first film. The movie would follow the girls halfway across the world in Abu Dhabi, away from their familiar playground in New York City. The film’s director Michael Patrick King, who also produced the show, intentionally did so to separate it from the first feature.
“My inspiration for this movie was the audience at the first movie,” King once told Collider.

Likely thanks to delays caused by the now settled dual Hollywood strikes, we won’t see the third season of Max’s And Just Like That until 2025.
The return was confirmed in a Max promo released earlier today with first looks of its upcoming 2024/2025 lineup. The spot also confirmed previously announced 2025 premieres for HBO’s Euphoria, The White Lotus and The Last of Us.
A specific premiere date for the Sex and the City continuation series was never set, but the writers room was back in operation beginning in early November following resolution of the WGA strike, and production start pending resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike. It was just ratified last night with 78.33% of ballots in favor of the November 8 tentative agreement with the AMPTP.
It won’t be the first lengthy delay between seasons of the Sex and the City sequel. There were 15 months between the Season 1 finale on Feb.

Frances Sternhagen, the versatile actress whose half-century on Broadway included two Tony Awards, seven nominations and memorable roles in Equus, On Golden Pond and The Heiress, has died. She was 93.
Sternhagen died peacefully Monday of natural causes at her home in New Rochelle, New York, her family said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. “We continue to be inspired by her love and life,” they noted.
With all her success on the stage, Sternhagen is perhaps best known for playing two mothers on television: the blue-blooded Bunny MacDougal on HBO’s Sex and the City and the overbearing Esther Clavin on NBC’s Cheers. She received Emmy nominations for both performances.
Sternhagen specialized in portraying characters who had a no-nonsense, overbearing attitude and plucky fortitude. She relished roles that were off the beaten track — the odder and more eccentric, the better.
“I must say it’s fun to play these snobby older ladies.

And Just Like That… will be back, at some point, with a third season. When the show will return to Max completely depends on the SAG-AFTRA strike. In the meantime, we’ve done some thinking. Seasons 1 and 2 of And Just Like That fell flat for many original Sex and the City fans. We think there are some changes that the production team could make to entice fans of the original series to fall in love with the reboot.

While the actors certainly do the characters of Lisa Todd Wexley and Herbert Wexley justice, the fictional couple still haven’t found where they “fit” in the overall show. We saw more of Ltw and Herbert in season 2 of And Just Like That… and it still didn’t help fans feel...

Sarah Jessica Parker spent a lot of time on Sex and the City. Deciding to end the show wasn’t an easy decision for the actor. She once even equated it to leaving home at an early age.
Leaving ‘Sex and the City’ behind was like leaving home for Sarah Jessica Parker
As the HBO series’ star and executive producer, the fate of Sex and the City rested in Parker’s hands. Despite the financial security the show gave her, Parker convinced herself that the show ran its course.
“What a hard decision it was to end the show,” she once told Oprah. “I kept asking myself, How’s the party faring? And how am I faring? Right now the party’s in full swing, and I hope the audience feels the same. But I don’t want to crawl across the finish line with bloodied hands. And as scary...

Carrie Bradshaw has worn many inspired, stunning, and, sometimes, downright strange looks over the years. The fictional sex columnist never shied away from style risks, and that’s one of the things Sex and the City fans love about her. She took the same chances in Sex and the City: The Movie, especially regarding her wedding look. While the wedding never happened, her bridal styling remains a topic of discussion for fans. Now, the bird headpiece Carrie Bradshaw wore to her ill-fated wedding at the New York Public Library is on the auction block.
‘Sex and the City’ fans can own a piece of movie history for the right price
Carrie Bradshaw’s bird headpiece is officially up for auction. Sotheby’s announced they would feature the iconic bird in its Fashion Icons lot this fall, and that auction is officially underway. The headpiece was famously worn by Carrie Bradshaw...

The second season of “And Just Like That” has wrapped with fans finally getting to see Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones making her much-anticipated return to the world of “Sex and the City”.
In the scene, in which Samantha (in London) chats via video call with Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw, the character makes a brief reference that may have gone over the heads of all but the most hardcore “Satc” fans.
At one point during the call, Carrie pokes fun at Samantha’s faux British accent since relocating to London, which prompts her to jokingly refer to herself as Annabelle Bronstein from India (pronounced ‘Indja’),” before ending the call with, “Ta and cheerio, and have a great night.”

“The Mary Tyler Moore Show” gave way to “Rhoda”; “Cheers” eventually brought us “Frasier.” Could the legacy of “And Just Like That” be the London-set dramedy “Samantha”?
Yes, it’s unlikely; a potential spinoff based on the ongoing adventures of Kim Cattrall’s character from “And Just Like That” and “Sex and the City” necessitates the participation of, well, Cattrall, who’s been very clear that her cameo on the “Ajlt” finale was a once-ever thing. But that cameo, too, once seemed unlikely-to-impossible, given the haze of bad feeling between Cattrall and her former castmates. And on “Samantha,” just like Frasier in Seattle, she’d get to make a whole new set of friends!
I’m being facetious, but only a little. I agree with my colleague Alison Herman that Samantha’s cameo was electric, and I’d go further: It provided a much-needed jolt for an episode of television that at times felt lugubrious.

“And just like that … I ordered two more Cosmopolitans” — that’s Carrie Bradshaw’s last line, delivered in her signature voiceover, in the Season 2 finale of “And Just Like That.”
Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) delivers that proclamation as she relaxes on a beautiful beach, alongside her friend Seema (Sarita Choudhury). “We ran at love,” Seema says earlier in the scene. “And where did that get us?” Carrie answers simply, “Greece.”
Both women have fallen in love during the second season of the “Sex and the City” revival, and for now, are seemingly at peace with the challenges ahead of them. Carrie has accepted that Aidan (John Corbett) — her old love, now renewed — needs to be home in Virginia for his kids for the next five years.

‘And Just Like That’ Season 2 Embraces Chaos and Forsakes Sanity in an Encouraging Finale — Spoilers
[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “And Just Like That” Season 2, Episode 11, “The Last Supper Part 2: Entrée.”]
“If you feel love, run after it.”
Carrie’s latest personal credo doesn’t just linger over the Season 2 finale; it’s spoken aloud to kick off the episode. In case viewers forgot how head over Manolo Blahnik heels our former Shoe Gal is for Aidan (John Corbett), episode writer and director Michael Patrick King features Carrie’s words of advice in the introductory “last time on…” montage. (Wisely left out: Aidan’s egregiously weepy phone call about his hospitalized son.) Fresh off the death of her first husband, Carrie is strapping on her most supportive flats and sprinting after whatever brings her joy. A five-bedroom apartment valued at the Gdp of Albania? She buys it. A teense kitten sure to destroy her Sjp-brand wallpaper (not to mention the cat’s namesake: all of Carrie’s shoes)? She adopts it.

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the Season 2 finale of Max’s And Just Like That…
And Just Like That… Samantha Jones is back and even though Kim Cattrall wasn’t there in person to interact with Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw, fans will certainly be elated to see the beloved character return.
Michael Patrick King must’ve known how anxious viewers would be for the reunion that he didn’t make us wait very long at all to see her. Just three minutes into the episode, Carrie returns to her classic NY Brownstown to make the final preparations for her “The Last Supper” dinner party to celebrate new beginnings and of course, one big ending. Carrie has really sold off her apartment this time and will be moving to a bigger place to make space for Aidan (John Corbett) and his 3 boys should they ever want to come stay.

Spoiler Alert: This column contains spoilers from “The Last Supper Part Two: Entrée,” the Season 2 finale of “And Just Like That,” now streaming on Max.
Before the second season of “And Just Like That” even premiered, we knew that Kim Cattrall would (briefly) return as her “Sex and the City” character Samantha Jones. The ratings rationale for bringing back such a beloved figure were obvious enough, but creatively, the move seemed oddly self-defeating. After an awkward start, the sequel series had finally started to establish its own identity. What was the point of reminding viewers what they were missing, let alone with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo featuring no other cast members?
But to my great surprise, Cattrall’s appearance in the 11th and final episode of Season 2 was both effective and, against all odds, organic. The two-part finale, titled “The Last Supper,” was all about saying goodbye and paying tribute...

Cattrall spoke about her return to the world of "Sex and the City" during a June interview on "Today," telling hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, "People will be so happy," regarding her "short scene" in "And Just Like That" season two. Max officially renewed And Just Like That… ahead of its much-anticipated season two finale which will feature the return of Kim Cattrall as Samantha. Season two episode 11 – part two of “The Last Supper” – finally delivers the cameo fans of the original foursome have eagerly anticipated.
Even though Samatha won’t be sharing scenes with her former Sex and the City co-stars, Cattrall will be seen in a cameo, styled by Patricia Field and shot in secret. In an interview on Today with Hoda and Jenna, Kim Cattrall confirmed that shopping in Bergdorf’s and picking out a great outfit for her cameo felt like dipping her toe back in time and having a wonderful afternoon.
However, fans shouldn’t expect Kim Cattrall back for the just-announced third season. It seems this short cameo is a one-off and not a precursor to an extended return as Samantha.
