The end of the America's Got Talent Judge Cuts is here. Seal joins the panel but, weirdly, there is barely a mention of his divorce from Heidi, and the two just interact like they are still together. Somehow, the two of them separated are still #RelationshipGoals.
Even with Seal's inclusion, the final round of Judge Cuts is very much business as usual. Like BuddyTV's Agt recapper Bill King, I agree that, by and large, America's Got Talent has done a good job of not bunching up their best and brightest talent in the Judge Cuts. The final episode for this episode is more of the same, with clear frontrunners and losers. Also, like almost every round before it, the members of the former group are singers.

America's Got Talent kicked off the first of four live quarterfinal segments with a couple of dreadful doozies, a small handful of acts that crawled before kicking serious bootie and two performances that were stellar from start to finish. Nick, wearing his suit inside out and his pants Touch ID tight, participated in an act, as did Heidi. But it was Mel B.'s new skinny self in a pink bunny suit strewn with black netting whose Golden Buzzer recipient stole the show. Only seven of these 12 acts will advance to the semifinals and we've got opinions on all of them. In the words of my esteemed colleague Bill King in his recap of the Quarterfinals Part 1, let's kick this pig.

No one is really clear on how exactly America's Got Talent is going to fill that Top 36 for the semifinals. The one thing that we can be sure of is that almost half of the 12 acts in the first quarterfinals are going home. I'm kind of with recapper Bill King here, and that number of leaving acts should be just a teensy bit higher. Still, this is the situation we are left with and it is time to make some predictions.

As Bill King pointed out in his recap of the third round of auditions for season 11, America's Got Talent used to be a very singer-friendly show. Yet when Howard Stern came on board, the competition switched to focusing more and more on the variety acts and it paid off. Some of the biggest success stories to come out of America's Got Talent have been the variety and novelty acts. It's been the magicians, ventriloquists and dancing dogs that have been the biggest winners of America's Got Talent, not the singers.
Yet in season 11, the show has swung back to its roots and basically become indistinguishable from the gluttony of other singing reality shows. The biggest symptom of this issue has been the Golden Buzzer. Three Golden Buzzers have been used in America's Got Talent season 11 and they have all been on singers. It needs to stop, sooner rather than later.

And we're off to the races a mere for a summer filled with fantastic competition hosted by America's new favorite all time host with the most, Nick Cannon.
Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B. and Howie Mandel kicked off the premiere two-hour episode of America's Got Talent season 9 last night at New York City's Madison Square Garden as recapped by my esteemed colleague, Bill King in his article, 'America's Got Talent Season 9 Premiere Recap: Talent Shines as the Auditions Get Underway'. As we go forward, Bill and I may disagree (I hope, because that's more fun), but we'll give your our honest though highly biased opinions, and that's a promise. That is. after all, what opinions are made of ... and we all know what they say about opinions. No applause necessary. ...

Greetings once again, Idol nation! Bill King here filling in one last time for regular recapper John Kubicek, who has other pressing obligations due to the random switch to Tuesday night. So I will be your viewing partner for the final meaningful performances of American Idol Xiii, while he'll be back Wednesday for all the fun stuff and the crowning of our next musical superstar.
I have been an unabashed Jena Irene supporter since day one, so it's pretty gratifying to have watched her blossom into a deserving bearer of the American Idol mantle. I even remember the day I welcomed Mr. Kubicek to the fan club, following his placement of her atop the Top 11 Performance Rankings after her Paramore cover. "Glad to see you're finally jumping on board the Jena bandwagon with me. It's comfy. I've been here since the beginning," I wrote.

Greetings on this fine evening, Idol nation! Bill King once again tag-teaming in for regular recapper John Kubicek, though I'm told he'll be back in earnest for the results show Thursday. He'll also likely be commenting throughout the show, because what can I say, that's just the kind of guy he is.
The American Idol Top 8 first-time theme, "Back to the Start," is an interesting one, as the singers will essentially re-audition by performing the very first song that launched their respective journeys. The selections include three original songs, and all but two played guitar during the first go-round. It will be up to them whether they mimic their audition or go in a completely different direction, but a lot of factors are in play.

Howdy, Idol nation! Bill King here again filling in for regular recapper John Kubicek. Man, that guy takes more days off than Obama! In reality, he's probably writing articles about 63 other shows for BuddyTV, so I'll happily take the extra work and interactivity that come with covering this fading great franchise.
This week, our Top 9 are "Singing with the Band," a theme more ambiguous than Ace and Gary. They'll be performing with the musicians live on the stage, and I hope they at least have to choose a song by an actual band (i.e. The Beatles or The Monkees, both likely to get squashed by The Cars) and not a solo musician. Otherwise they can pick literally any song that has ever existed.

Hello all! Last season's recapper Bill King here, filling in for John this week, and it's great to be back! Now that the madness and questionable decisions of the ludicrous Rush Week are behind us, it's time to get back to good ol' fashioned Idol. Thirteen singers, everyone gets to perform, America decides and all the judges can do is hang on to the save in case we all do something catastrophically stupid.
This is ... American Idol.
This is ... American Idol.

We know how tough it is to referee an NFL game. Plays go by in seconds, rules are broken in half the time, and fans are screaming at you no matter what your decision is. But there are some calls in history that just make us stand up and cry foul.
Whether it was lack of foresight, constrained by antiquated laws, or just plain wrong, these decisions have made the NFL referee a position on the field that just can’t get a break. Some blown calls are funny, some are heart-breaking, and no matter what, the fans will still be screaming. Keep in mind, though, these referees are human, not saints…

This play didn’t seem divine so much as confusing. Bill King, the Raiders commentator, couldn’t believe this play was actually happening. Madden didn’t believe it was real. No one believed it was real,...
