Yesterday evening, the news broke that Black Bird and Cruella star Paul Walter Hauser has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four.
It's another exciting and impressive addition to the reboot, though there was no word in the trades about who he's playing. The voice of H.E.R.B.I.E. is one possibility, though Mole Man is another suggestion which is being batted about online.
Hauser would be a great choice for a sinister new take on the baddie. Plus, with a story which takes place in the 1960s, using Mole Man as a supporting villain is a, well, fantastic way to pay homage to the team's first comic book appearance.
While he stops short of confirming Hauser has been cast in the role, Jeff Sneider (via The InSneider) is reporting that the current script for The Fantastic Four opens with Marvel's First Family defeating Mole Man.

George R.R. Martin was not fond of the toxic fanbase of his work, Game of Thrones, which became a TV sensation. Martin revealed that they would send all kinds of threatening messages, especially after the poor reception of the eighth season. It made Martin remember the good old days when he was a superfan of Marvel. He revealed that he didn’t resort to hatemail when he didn’t like The Incredible Hulk show that ran on TV or the Captain America home movies.

Every couple of months in comic book-centric social media circles, someone reposts a comics page in which Deadpool shooting Spider-Man in the head or decapitating an exhausted Bruce Banner. These panels usually spark arguments about whether or not these kills are in character (they aren’t) or if the entire thing is a joke (it is).
Eventually, someone points out that the pages come from Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, a 2012-2013 miniseries by Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajic. The story involves Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking powers driving him so mad that he decides to kill all the other Marvel characters because they’re fictional and their lives don’t matter. Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe may have inspired controversy, but it also inspired several sequels, including Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Again.
From all that we’ve seen so far, Deadpool & Wolverine seems to have little in common with Bunn and Talajic’s take.

For superhero fans of a certain age, there was nothing quite like waking up early on Saturday mornings to tune in for a new episode of "X-Men: The Animated Series." With fast-paced soap opera storytelling, snappy one-liners, and the most radical animation style on TV, "X-Men: The Animated Series" was the perfect gateway to get kids hooked on all things Marvel.
Now, over 25 years since the original series went off the air, Marvel and Disney+ have continued the saga with "X-Men '97," a series so good that it's already being hailed as one of the best new shows of the year. What makes "X-Men '97" such a triumph is not just its perfectly executed nostalgia, but because the show has evolved to relate to the sensibilities of our 2024 world, without becoming anachronistic in the process. Marvel Studios’ latest animated show, X-Men ’97 started where the original X-Men: The Animated Series left off. Bringing back the mutant superheroes back on our screens, the show has touched fans with a familiar style of storytelling, bringing major nostalgia, but also adding elements of today’s time. The writing has also been top-notch, which only added to the show, which has found critical acclaim alongside high ratings.

It’s no secret that Darkseid and Thanos are two of the most powerful and feared villains in the comic book universe. But with Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War’s phenomenal successes, one character in particular has emerged as a pop culture icon: The Mad Titan.
In the MCU films, Josh Brolin’s Thanos truly brought the dread, ferocity, spectacle, and shock factor when he assembled the Infinity Stones and snapped half of life away. However, the DC Universe and its heroes have also been afflicted by Darkseid. Naturally, Darkseid and Thanos have caused problems for the members of the primary superhero teams from DC (Justice League) and Marvel (Avengers) through their many battles. So who would win if Darkseid and Thanos faced off?

Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel is a movie star. "The Marvels" has been cited as another sign of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's fall from dominance, but everyone loves young actor Iman Vellani as this spunky heroine. /Film even named Kamala the best movie hero of 2023 and proclaimed her the future of the MCU.
Of course, Kamala comes from Marvel Comics and was co-created by G. Willow Wilson, Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, Adrian Alphona, and Jamie McKelvie. The comics made a bizarre move of synergy in 2023; between Kamala's Disney+ show "Ms. Marvel" and the theatrical run of "The Marvels," she heroically dies in "Amazing Spider-Man" #26 (by Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.), published in May 2023.
Wells' "Amazing Spider-Man" isn't exactly a fan-favorite (the stink of breaking up Peter and Mj has carried across his run) and this was a low point. It was the cheapest of cheap melodrama and Kamala perished while pulling guest star duty.

The Fantastic Four are called Marvel’s First Family because, well, they actually are. Back in 1961, the company formerly known as Timely Comics transitioned into Marvel Comics. They kept some of their titles, such as Journey Into Mystery, but began a new approach to superhero comics with The Fantastic Four. These new titles would show the internal drama between the characters and not just their superheroics. After these characters became a big hit, the company created other heroes such as The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, and Iron Man.
Fox would end up with the movie rights to bring these characters to the big screen but ultimately would produce content that really didn’t live up to what the comics promised. After four attempts (ironic), the rights have finally reverted back to Marvel Studios through Disney’s purchase of Twentieth Century Studios. Now that the MCU is around, fans are interested in...

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
The fifth episode of X-Men ’97 presents a major change in the status quo for mutankind, climaxing with an attack on the nation of Genosha and the deaths of several major characters. But the most consequential event may be what happens just before the attack begins.
The first half of “Remember It” plays like a reprieve for the X-Men, as they visit a radically different Genosha from the one they previously saw on X-Men: The Animated Series. Once an apartheid nation built on mutant oppression, Genosha has become a haven for mutants, allowing them to celebrate their culture. The climax of the celebration occurs in the Hellfire Gala, a ball designed to inaugurate Magneto and Rogue as the new leaders.

Tons of Batmans have shown off their geniuses and strength to audiences over the course of time, but not every single one of them managed to leave their mark on the viewers’ minds. While some of the projects’ failure was understandable, some others were truly done injustice to — like the one film from the DC Animated Universe that Mark Hamill will always hold close to his heart.

Nearly six years ago, Black Panther was a game-changer for Marvel and superheroes in general. The feature presented an all-black cast within the genre and managed to climb past the billion-dollar mark. However, the reason for Black Panther’s success isn’t simply because of the race of its cast. That’s due to the film having a compelling set of characters at the forefront. Black Panther is one of the older characters in the comics that was first created back when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby first introduced him in Fantastic Four #52. Joe Simon and Jack Kirby created Captain America in 1940 as a symbol of American propaganda. Enhanced by a powerful steroid, Steve Rogers was given over to the American military, given a colorful, American flag costume, and ordered to pummel Nazis. Indeed, on the cover of "Captain America Comics" #1, Steve can be seen punching Adolf Hitler in the face. After WWII ended, Captain America has been adrift in Marvel Comics, only finding usefulness as the leader of a ragtag group of other superbeings. It's astonishing how successful the character has been in the last 60 years or so, given that he clearly exists as a still-living relic of the Greatest Generation.

While the ’90s were filled with acclaimed stories, surrounding A-list comic characters, including Batman and Spider-man, there was a lack of teenage heroes in the mainstream landscape. To fill that gap, Dwayne McDuffie created the teenage sensation Static Shock, who would go on to enjoy his own animated show in the 2000s, which would go on for 4 seasons.
Although originally created for Milestone Media, the comic-book company pioneered by McDuffie, the character was later incorporated into the Dcau through its animated series. According to McDuffie, the teenage hero took heavy inspiration from the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

The disappointment that comes from seeing a great film do poorly at the box office almost certainly never goes away. One of the most important Batman storytellers of all time, Bruce Timm, does not seem to understand how good Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is.

The theory of a multiverse i.e., multiple universes (parallel and anti-parallel) running simultaneously has been often used in movies and series to mess with people’s brains. Well, franchises like the Dcau and the MCU have been working on the concept relentlessly for several years.
With these comic giants and other franchises working excessively on this single concept, people would often find all the stuff repetitive and unnecessary. One particular Dcau film got the short end of the stick when the concept of the multiverse went mainstream!

When The Concept of Multiverse Went Mainstream
People remember a time when superhero movies were only about fighting a bad guy, saving the world, and calling it a day. The start of the MCU (Iron Man) had a similar style and fans indeed loved the film.

It has often been seen in today’s world that quippy humor and overused jokes are used to grab onto audiences about to leave the theater screens. With many movies relying on dad jokes and puns to bring a sense of comedy into the chaos, a balance between seriousness and comedy is a serious issue (sorry).
Well, the Dcau, or DC Animated Universe strived hard to find the perfect balance between a world full of comedy and seriousness. Talking about their recently released Dcau magnum opus, the team behind the film talked about how they managed to find that perfect center point between comedy and seriousness and how they nailed it!

“Somewhere, deep within the deep vastness of outer space, an incredible figure hurtles thru the cosmos, a being whom we shall call the Silver Surfer, for want of a better name!” That typically verbose bit of narration by Stan Lee comes from Fantastic Four #48, in which it accompanied the powerful imagery of Jack Kirby in his prime.
Since that moment, the Silver Surfer has become a major part of the Marvel Universe, appearing not only in countless comics but also in many film and television adaptations. The upcoming Fantastic Four MCU movie promises to continue the tradition, and director Matt Shakman has announced that the character has been cast. However, it’s not comicdom’s original Silver Surfer, Norrin Radd, whom actor Julia Garner (Ozark) will be portraying. Rather it’s Shalla-Bal.

When Ali Selim was brought in to helm MCU’s Secret Invasion, he was warned against reading the comics, as the Disney Plus series had nothing to do with the source material. While it’s not wrong for adaptations to deviate from the source material, in the case of MCU, avoiding creators from delving into comics has backfired for them.

Bruce Timm is one of the greatest creators of comic book media in recent history. The creator joined a long line of comic book and superhero legends when he created Batman: The Animated Series. However, there was one character, created by Jack Kirby, that the legendary artist had some beef with: Thor.

Speaking with The Jack Kirby Collector, Timm opened up about why he liked drawing so many characters that are created by Jack Kirby wailing on Thor. This stems from a preference that Kevin Alteri, the director that Timm was working with at the time, had when it came to the character.

Actress Julia Garner (“Ozark”) has been cast as the alien ‘Silver Surfer’ in Marvel Studios’ next big live-action feature “The Fantastic Four”:
The character was originally created as a man by illustrator/plotter Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee, debuting in Marvel Comics’ “The Fantastic Four’ #48 (1966).
The ‘Silver Surfer’ is a humanoid alien with metallic skin who can travel through space with the aid of a surfboard-like craft. As a young astronomer named ‘Norrin Radd’ on the planet ‘Zenn-La’, Radd saved the homeworld from the planet devourer, ‘Galactus’, by serving as a ‘herald’.
Imbued with some portion of ‘Galactus' Power Cosmic’, Radd acquired a new body and a surfboard-like craft to travel faster than light.
Now known as the ‘Silver Surfer’, Radd roamed the cosmos searching for planets for Galactus to consume.
When travels took Radd to Earth, the ‘Fantastic Four’ helped Radd rediscover a nobility of spirit.

The Silver Surfer is finally coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character is set to appear in "The Fantastic Four," which is set to hit theaters next summer and will be directed by Matt Shakman ("WandaVision"). Now, we have confirmation that Julia Garner ("Ozark") will bring the beloved character to life. So yes, this will be a female take on the cosmic comic book favorite.
According to Deadline, Garner will play Silver Surfer in the film, which is expected to begin production in the coming weeks. In an interesting twist, the actress is said to be playing a version of the Marvel Comics character Shalla-Bal, who is heavily tied to Norrin Rad, the alter-ego of the man who is most associated with Silver Surfer in the pages of the comics. Fantastic Four has found its Silver Surfer. Julia Garner will play a version the classic character, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
WandaVision director Matt Shakman is directing the feature, which stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. The film has a release date of July 25, 2025, and is rumored to take place in the 1960s, the era in which writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby first introduced the Fantastic Four, the super team that launched the Marvel Universe in comics. Eric Pearson, known for Black Widow and Thor: Ragnarok, is the current writer on the film.
The Silver Surfer was introduced in in Fantastic Four No. 48 as the herald of Galactus, a planet-eating entity, though that version of the Surfer was an alien astronomer known as Norrin Radd.

When it comes to comparing Marvel and DC animated shows, one always seems to find itself on top. From Young Justice to Batman Beyond, the upper hand goes to DC in many ways. That does not necessarily mean that Marvel is far behind. Especially with the release of X-Men ’97, tides are bound to turn at some point. Bruce Timm happens to be the man behind Batman: The Animated Series, a show that is receiving praise like prayers.

Having helmed the likes of Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond, Bruce Timm’s contribution to the realm of superheroes can’t be overstated. Bruce Timm, the mastermind behind a lot of projects from the DC Animated Universe, has a favorite of his own. Or to be more precise, he has a favorite episode of his own from the toon-verse. Now, considering how some of his best and most notable works are from Batman: The Animated Series, many would expect his favorite episode to be from this series as well.

"Suicide Squad Isekai," premiering this July, bridges the worlds of DC Comics and anime. "Isekai" is a popular anime genre; meaning "another world" in Japanese, Isekai anime follows an everyman lead being transported to a magical realm, "Alice in Wonderland" style. This time, the "everyman" leads are Harley Quinn (played by Anna Nagase instead of Margot Robbie), Deadshot, Peacemaker, King Shark, and Clayface.
Wit Studio ("Attack on Titan") is producing "Suicide Squad Isekai," but the series is only happening thanks to Warner Bros. Japan. "Young Justice" is one of the best superhero shows ever made. Building on the path carved by the work of Bruce Timm with "Justice League," "Batman: The Animated Series," and more, this animated series draws from every corner of the DC universe, from Jack Kirby's trippy Fourth Wall to Golden Age characters and much more. The show offered episodic storytelling, with most episodes revolving around a specific mission, while also advancing an overarching story with big consequences.
Perhaps the show's biggest achievement is one that we still haven't seen properly replicated in live-action — the idea of legacy. Legendary writer Neil Gaiman knows a thing or two about Norse mythology. His book "American Gods" (which was turned into a TV show that went through a lot of problems) features characters like Odin and Loki. Gaiman also wrote an enjoyable book called "Norse Mythology," described on the book jacket as "a bravura rendition of the great northern tales." Gaiman has also created some of the most renowned comics of all time, most notably his "The Sandman" series. With all that in mind, it seems like Gaiman would be perfect to write a story about the Marvel character Thor. And as it turns out, that almost happened.
In a new Tumblr post, Gaiman revealed that a few years ago he was asked to write an animated series about Thor for Marvel. Gaiman took the gig seriously and dove into research. But the project fizzled when he butted heads with what Marvel had in mind.

This article contains spoilers for "X-Men '97" episode 2.
Before "X-Men '97" premiered on Disney+, fans of the original "X-Men: The Animated Series" did their homework of devouring every corner of the internet for possible hints of what the revival continuation could be bringing to the table. One of those hints came from the promotional tie-in release with Hasbro as part of the Marvel Legends series, which included an action figure of the villain, X-Cutioner. The figure is advertised as specifically designed to look like his character in "X-Men '97," which means we knew that he would be making an appearance at some point. In what way he would pop up in "X-Men '97" would have to wait for the series premiere, but with the first two episodes now available to stream on Disney+, we have our answer.
Episode 2 finally gave fans a look at X-Cutioner, but considering he was given the action figure treatment,...

X-Men ‘97, the latest project from Marvel Studios’ animation department, is set to take fans back to the golden age of Mutant storytelling. The show is a follow-up to X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992 until 1997. While fans will fondly remember this Saturday morning cartoon mainstay, it’s hard to ignore the impact that the arcade game also had around this same era.
Konami’s X-Men launched in 1992 and has succeeded in creating a legacy that is intrinsically linked to the Mutant mayhem of the 90s. So how did X-Men actually contribute to the popularity of the team? Well to work that out, we first have to go back to the beginning.
The X-Men’s Origins & Rise
The first X-Men comic debuted in 1963. With the incredible Stan Lee and Jack Kirby collaborating on the comic, history was made and a series of characters were born that would forever shape Marvel’s storytelling.

Back when the Marvel Cinematic Universe was still in development, Neil Gaiman was brought on board to develop an animated Thor series which would have led into the first movie.
The writer revealed this on Tumblr when a fan asked him if he’d like to work on Thor if Marvel asked.
“Long ago — around 2006 — I was asked to create a Thor animated cartoon, and I got all excited, and the brief was it had to be set before the Thor movie,” Gaiman said. “I did a deep Thor dive, reread everything Jack Kirby drew, came up with a whole story shape that ran a few seasons showing young Loki going from hero-worshipping his big brother to Going to the Bad, and then they told me I wasn’t actually allowed to have any of the characters at any point be different in any way from how they were in the Thor movie,...
