The Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons-starring sci-fi series Night Sky has been canceled by Amazon’s Prime Video after just one season. As reported by Deadline, the cancelation comes just a month and a half after the eight-episode first season debuted on the streamer. Despite positive reviews from critics, the series did not reach a high enough viewership to justify its expensive budget. Created by Holden Miller and Daniel C. Connolly, Night Sky revolves around married couple Franklin (Simmons) and Irene York (Spacek), who discover a portal in their backyard that leads to a deserted planet. However, their carefully guarded secret is upended when an enigmatic young man (Chai Hansen) enters the scene, revealing that the portal is much more than the Yorks ever imagined. In addition to Spacek and Simmons, the show also starred Kiah McKirnan, Beth Lacke, Julieta Zylberberg, Rocío Hernández, Stephen Louis Grush, Sonya Walger, Angus O’Brian,...

Chicago – The topic of cancer is rarely heroic, and as we know mostly concludes tragically. But the new teen comedy “Hope Springs Eternal” turns the Big C on its ear, and features up-and-coming young actor Mia Rose Frampton to take it on. The film is light and breezy, with nods to John Hughes, absurdist teen indoctrinations and the celebration of music in life.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Written with a nice light balance by Stephanie Mickus (her debut) and directed by Chicagoan Jack C. Newell, “Hope Springs Eternal” is tight storytelling and brisk comedy. Frampton keeps it alive with her expressive optimism in the main role, and is able to handle both the light and darkness of the “C” without being maudlin. The cast is top drawer and seems to be having a good time… the highlight being a Hughes-like “mean girl” coterie who have a habit of dressing alike. This is a great cheer-us-up film,...

Norman Lear’s eight-year journey to get his retirement village comedy Guess Who Died to the small screen has hit another snag. NBC has passed on the single-camera pilot from Lear and Peter Tolan.
The move was somewhat surprising. While Guess Who Died flew largely under the radar during pilot season, NBC went aggressively after the project last summer. The script was a favorite of the network’s top brass who only a couple of weeks ago flew 95-year-old Lear in by helicopter to the company’s retreat where they praised the pilot, I hear.
I hear there has been incoming outside interest in Guess Who Died in the past few weeks. For instance, I hear there is excitement about the project at YouTube Red, though they have not seen the pilot yet as it just got the pass at NBC.

Chicago – Local filmmaking has always gotten a boost through director Jack C. Newell. His 2015 film “Open Tables,” shot in Chicago and Paris, will get it’s digital release on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016, on iTunes and Video-On-Demand. This coincides with his art project “The Wabash Lights,” and his continued production work.
“Open Tables” features couples and groups meeting in restaurants, talking about their lives and relationships. Although the centerpiece is food, the meal is the conversation, including a story about a sojourn into Paris – shot in black and white. Newell directed the film in the improvisation style rooted in the Chicago comedy scene, much like his first narrative film, “Close Quarters,” which featured many local improvisation artists. He also takes on the lead role as Ryan, who defines himself through the adventure in Paris. The film explores and provides perspective on the elusiveness of relationships.

It looks like the cross-dressing guys of Work It are out of work again. ABC has cancelled the new sitcom, pulling it from the schedule after just two episodes.
Work It revolves around a pair of unemployed guys -- Lee Standish (Ben Koldyke) and Angel Ortiz (Amaury Nolasco) -- who get jobs at a pharmaceuticals company when they apply dressed as women. The cast also includes Beth Lacke, John Caparulo, Rebecca Mader, Rochelle Aytes, Kate Reinders, Kirstin Eggers, and Hannah Sullivan.
The first episode of Work It, attracted a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.16 million total viewers. When compared to the debut of already-canned Man Up!, ABC was down by 17% in the ratings.
This week's installment dropped like a rock, down 20% to a 1.6 in the demo with only 5.1 million.

Last week, ABC unveiled their first new sitcom of 2012, Work It. The TV series was pummeled by negative reviews from critics and viewers alike but were the ratings that bad? Will it be quickly cancelled or stick around long enough to be renewed for a second season?
Work It revolves around a pair of unemployed guys -- Lee Standish (Ben Koldyke) and Angel Ortiz (Amaury Nolasco) -- who believe that the economic downturn has affected men more than women. Lee gets a job at a pharmaceuticals company after applying dressed as a woman and Angel follows. The two must maintain their charade to keep their jobs and end up learning a little something about what it means to be female.

There was a slight twinge of panic amongst the ladyfolk when the Twitter and viral video sensation “S— Girls Say” all but took over the Internet. Not out of the fear that it could become too popular for its own good and get its own miserable spin-off like a certain similarly titled CBS sitcom (still a legitimate concern, though), but that a guy had actually cracked some of our not-so-secret code. Because despite its obviously over-the-top re-enactment of, well, the s— girls sometimes say, it was nearly impossible to deny that you hadn’t uttered something pretty close to Graydon Sheppard...

Chicago – I try to approach every new series as a blank slate. However, it would be naive to say that things like pedigree and incessant advertising don’t have the same impact on me as they do you. I’m a fan of J.J. Abrams and so I look forward to his work more than, say, the team behind “According to Jim.” And the ads for ABC’s “Work It” sent a shiver down my spine like a high school teacher talking about a term paper that you knew you’d have to do eventually and would probably hate writing. Did it live up to my low expectations? Actually, no. It’s much, Much worse.

ABC has a slew of new shows coming, many of which need a lot of luck if they're going to last more than a handful of episodes. The schedule has been released, so let's take a lot at what's coming.
Oddly enough, as part of the new announcement, ABC has solidified the return of several more shows, including Happy Endings, despite the fact that two other networks have shows on their slate with cast members from the show. That should be interesting. Of course, it works for me, because I'm a fan.

Earlier we shared ABC's primetime lineup, and now we have some clips from the new comedy series for you. The new comedies include Apartment 23, Suburgatory, Last Man Standing, Man Up, and Work It. So far I think Apartment 23 looks the best. Check out the clips below and let us know what shows you are liking the most.
Apartment 23
After a naive Midwestern girl's big city dreams are dashed her first week in New York, she finds herself living with her worst nightmare in this hilarious, contemporary comedy about a female odd couple who are surrounded by an outrageous cast of characters. June (Dreama Walker) moves to Manhattan for a dream job and the perfect company apartment, only to have them disappear in a puff of reality, thanks to a CEO from the Bernie Madoff school of embezzlement. Deep in debt and out on the streets, June scrambles to land a job and place to live.

What are two guys to do during the current "mancession"? Dress up as women to score jobs, of course!
ABC announced its 2011-2012 schedule on Tuesday, May 17, and the workplace comedy (with a twist!) "Work It" made the cut for midseason.
"Work It" stars Ben Koldyke as Lee Standish and Amaury Nolasco as Angel Ortiz, two alpha males who land jobs in pharmaceutical sales by passing themselves off as women. While this concept may seem a little offensive, Lee and Angel quickly learn there are fundamental differences in the worlds of men and women and ABC calls the show a "smart, funny and relevant look at male and female relationships at work, at home and socially." The tagline? "Being a better man sometimes means having to be a better woman." Seriously. We'll try to reserve judgment until we see the finished product.
Also starring in the workplace, buddy and family...

NBC and Fox have both unleashed their Fall 2011-2012 TV schedule, now ABC has released theirs. I’m excited to see Castle, Modern Family, and The Middle back in the mix. Most of the new shows they have line-up don’t really interest me, but there are a few that have caught my eye. PanAm is another 1960’s based TV show that will go against AMC’s Mad Men and NBC’s The Playboy Club. There’s a show called Revenge that sounds really interesting, but the new series I’m most excited about is is the fantasy series Once Upon A Time, a show where fairy tales collide with the modern day.
Here is ABC’s full schedule along with a description of all of their shows. Go through them below and let us know what TV series you’re most excited about seeing.

ABC hopes 13 is its lucky number. The network has picked up a baker’s dozen new shows to populate its fall and midseason schedule, which includes opening a new comedy block.

Michael Landes is set to co-star on CBS' untitled Peter Knight comedy pilot, a workplace ensemble about the young-adult employees at a high-powered venture capital firm. Landes will play one of the employees, Andrew, a handsome, cocky and annoyingly smart full-fledged workaholic. Landes, repped by CAA and Untitled, recently completed Lumpy, The Congress and 11:11:11 and did a two-month run in David Mamet’s play House Of Cards at the Almeida theater. Beth Lacke has been cast as a regular on ABC's comedy pilot Work It. The multicamera project, from Andrew Reich and Ted Cohen, is about out-of-work car salesmen Lee (Ben Koldyke) and Angel (Amaury Nolasco), who realize that it is a woman's world and decide that to find work again and succeed, they must dress as women to get jobs as pharmaceutical reps. Lacke, repped by Innovative and Sanders.Armstrong.Caserta, will play Lee's hardworking wife, a nurse.

NBC has given the green light to a pilot from scribes David Israel and Jim O'Doherty for a domestic comedy to star Greg Grunberg and Beth Lacke. The NBC Universal Television Studio project dubbed Grand Union revolves around Grunberg's trials as the manager of a Long Island grocery store and at home with his colorful family. The project was penned on spec by Israel and O'Doherty this year when the duo was in the final months of their overall deal with Carsey-Werner Co.
