The Repertory East Playhouse production of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” that was shuttered last Saturday when its lead actor was fired for confronting a heckler is getting a revival—although not all the original cast has signed on. Three of the four actors in the Rep play’s principal roles will be on stage June 7 for a one-night-only performance of the Tennessee Williams drama. Missy Kaye, who played Big Mama, will not be returning because she made a "commitment prior to being informed of the benefit show," she told Backstage. There was some disagreement among the cast over how John Lacy, who plays Big Daddy, handled a heckler who twice called Anton Troy (pictured), playing Brick, a gay slur during the May 31 performance at Rep in Newhall, about an hour north of Los Angeles. After the second outburst, Lacy broke character, descended the stage and confronted the heckler,...

The reactions are coming hot and heavy following the firing of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” actor John Lacy, who was terminated from the Santa Clarita, Calif., production Saturday after physically removing a heckler who had hurled anti-gay slurs at the cast during a performance of the play. The majority of commenters weighing in on the matter offered their support for Lacy. “Karma means this guy is going to land a giant summer blockbuster or superhero role now, right?” Eric Vespe of Ain't It Cool News tweeted. “X-Men” star Shawn Ashmore agreed: “I hope so.” “@EricVespe: Karma means this guy is going.

An actor in a Los Angeles-area production of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” confronted a drunken heckler in the audience Saturday. The incident prompted the actor’s firing, a walkout from one of his castmates, and the subsequent cancelation of the last two weeks of the play’s run. The production of Tennessee Williams’ play at the Repertory East Playhouse (Rep) in Newhall, a town about an hour north of Los Angeles, had attracted little press attention before its May 31 performance. Last Saturday night, John Lacy, who was playing dying patriarch Big Daddy Pollitt, said a producer told him, "This is the drunkest house we’ve ever had." Rep’s bar, which serves hard liquor, opens at 7 p.m. with curtain an hour later. During intermission, Lacy said his co-star Anton Troy, who was playing Big Daddy's son Brick, was visibly upset. "He said someone was booing him and...

An actor in a Santa Clarita, Calif. production of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” was fired Saturday after physically removing a heckler in the audience who lobbed anti-gay slurs at the cast for nearly half of the show. John Lacy, who played Big Daddy in Tennessee Williams’ classic play that tackles homophobia among other themes, was fired after jumping off stage and physically confronting an audience member who repeatedly made noise and yelled “fag” during emotionally tense scenes, according to audience members’ accounts of the incident on Facebook. The show apparently continued following the confrontation and concluded to a standing.
