- (May 24, 1966) "Mame" opens on Broadway. Lanning plays the older Patrick Dennis and wins a Theatre World award for his Broadway debut. Lanning is also heard on the original cast recording on the Columbia Records label. He later toured with Angela Lansbury when she took the show on the road.
- He starred in the Broadway hit "1776" as Rev. John Witherspoon from 1997 to 1998. In addition, he was in the original cast of "Maine", and has also appeared in "My Fair Lady", "Where's Charley?", and "Anna Karenina". He's been nominated for two Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical -- in 1975 for "Where's Charley?", and again in 1993 for "Anna Karenina".
- (January 1968) "Jerry Lanning Sings" is released on MGM Records (E/SE 4500). Songs include 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy); How to Handle a Woman; His Own Little Island; Real Live Girl; One Hand, One Heart; Here's to My Lady; The End of the World; Don't Think Twice; Meantime; Wonderful! Wonderful!; and More I Cannot Wish You. Recorded in August, October & November 1967 with musical direction by Ralph Burns & Herb Bernstein. Also recorded at these sessions were On A Clear Day (You Can See Forever); You Don't Have to Say You Love Me; When I Look in Your Eyes and Softly, As I Leave You. Billboard's review of the album stated "MGM Records has themselves a "find." Jerry Lanning has a voice-and-a-half. He sings with depth, with musical poise, with conviction." How to Handle a Woman/The End of the World was also issued as MGM Records single K13910.
- (October 20, 1978) Lanning opens in "I Love My Wife" at Drury Lane-Water Tower in Chicago. The cast includes Lanning as Wally, Brad Blaisdell as Alvin, Marcia McClain as Cleo and Leslie Denniston as Monica. Staging by Martin Allen. Ann Jillian joins the cast as Monica in January 1979.
- (November 20, 1967) "The Magic of Cole Porter," presented by the Music Theater of Lincoln Center, at the New York State Theater. Hosted by Bennett Cerf with musical direction by Jay Blackton. Fred Astaire, Dinah Shore, Ethel Merman, Lisa Kirk, John Raitt, Constance Towers, Nancy Dussault & Karen Morrow also appeared in this tribute to the life and music of Cole Porter.
- (October 12, 1967) Lanning was one of the entertainers at a dinner dance given by Lynda Johnson in the East Room at the White House for Princess Alexandra of Britain & her husband Angus Ogilvy. Peter Duchin and His Orchestra and jazz flutist Herbie Mann also performed. Lanning also joined Miss Johnson & her fiancé Capt. Charles S. Robb, the Princess & Mr. Ogilvy, Senator & Mrs. Birch Bayh, George Plimpton, Mrs. Bradford H. Walker and White House staffer Eliska Hasek at their table for dinner.
- (June 1, 1967) Lanning participated in a salute to the 100th anniversary of American Musical Theater, in New York City's Bryant Park, arranged by the Stern Brothers Department Stores to open their second season of outdoor fashion shows. Between fashion displays songs were provided by Thelma Oliver & Elaine Cancilla from "Sweet Charity," Lanning from "Mame," Eleanor Calbes from "South Pacific" & Robert Rounseville of "Man of La Mancha." Barbara Harris & Harold Prince received Stern Brothers awards for their theater work and Orson Bean, Betty Comden & Adolph Green also participated in the show.
- (March 1978) Lanning stars in "Barbary Coast," an original stage musical with book, lyrics & music by William Penzer, at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco. Lanning plays boxer 'Gentleman' Jim Corbett. Marcia Rodd, Sab Shimono, Roxann Pyle, Gillian Scalici, Lola Fisher, Marnie Mosiman, Alyson Reed, Dan Ferrone & Ben Wrigley are also in the cast. Directed by Jack Bunch. Lanning receives good reviews, as do choreographer Ed Nolfi and the sets by William Morris, but the lavish production closes after a few weeks.
- (1973) He acted in Burt Bacharach and Hal David's musical, "Promises, Promises," at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey with Bill Hinnant, Jill Corey and Joe Silver in the cast. Larry Forde was director.
