- W.P. Lear Sr. was born on June 26, 1902 in Hannibal, Missouri, USA. He was an actor, known for In Like Flint (1967). He died on May 14, 1978 in Reno, Nevada, USA.
- Built and marketed the first commercially viable car radio. And named it the Motorola.

- He first ventures were in electronics. With his company Lear Incorporated, which he sold in 1962 to Siegler Corp. When Lear Incorporated refused to build his idea for a business jet.
- He was basically self taught. He turned to experts to help him understand basic concepts and then ran with that knowledge.
- In 1963 he moved to Wichita to form Lear Jet to build and market one of the most successful business jet companies in history.
