You know you're in an odd place when a man not wearing 19th century period costumes and/or vampire make-up makes him an anomaly, but that was the case with Dominic Cooper, hanging in the shade on a day off from the New Orleans set of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Those working behind the scenes wore shorts, t-shirts and whatever else it took to keep cool on this hot May afternoon, but the British actor looked like he was ready for a GQ shoot in his slouchy slim jeans, plaid button-up and each strand of his long, wavy hair locked perfectly into place. The film has one of those massively descriptive titles, like Cowboys and Aliens or Hot Tub Time Machine, allowing the audience an opportunity to decide right away whether or not it's for them, but Cooper (An Education, Captain America: The First Avenger) revealed that the notion of...

A friend of mine had picked up Seth Grahame Smiths novel ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ days after it hit bookshelves and raved about how awesome it was for weeks. I shrugged it off as an easy idea that probably didn’t have much substance to it. When I heard they were making a movie I still wasn’t impressed and figured it would just be another movie in a long list of movies to include vampires in it to sell tickets. Until I saw the trailer, nothing seemed to be working for me. However, the trailer showed that there was freshness to these vampires. That freshness is actually not fresh at all but what a classic vampire should look and feel like. It was dark and handled by two men, Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, that know how to handle dark subject matter in a really fun way. Having the...

If you've been waiting all this time for a sequel to Wanted, you're clearly a more patient soul than I. There's been talk of the project basically since the first film came out, and even with Angelina Jolie declining to participate, producer Jim Lemley has continued making noise about it, and the film's writers were hired last September to write a script for the sequel. Now it's director Timur Bekmambetov's turn to fan the flames of anticipation, taking the opportunity of the press tour for his next film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to make some vague promises about where the Wanted sequel would take things. Here's what he said to The Playlist: "An unbelievable thing happened three weeks ago. Because we stopped, we didn't know what to do for three or four years. Three weeks ago I came up with a great idea and I pitched this idea and...

At a lanky 6'3", Benjamin Walker was a perfect fit in his 2004 big-screen debut as the 19-year-old version of Kinsey, played in his adult years by Liam Neeson. Coincidentally (or maybe not so much), Walker is about to be seen in his first major starring role portraying a legendary historical figure Neeson was long attached to play for Steven Spielberg. Only this version of Abraham Lincoln's story is quite different from the one Spielberg will finally bring to theaters this December. For the uninitiated, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter re-imagines the 16th President of the United States as an axe-wielding slayer of the undead as screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith adapts his own bestselling mashup novel for the big screen. While the film is very much an action-packed and re-imagined origin story of a man Grahame-Smith calls the "first and only true American superhero," both the novel and film were meticulously researched and remain very true to history.

Their film has the action, thrills, cutting-edge visual effects and 3D, and monstrous creatures of the undead, you.d expect from a title that includes the words .vampire hunter... But through its portrait of a beloved historical figure, it is grounded in reality. This is the Lincoln you know . with one additional quality of which you were unaware. Until now.

Visiting the set of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is not unlike stepping into an elaborate joke. There's the Oval Office, Congress, a guy in a top hat and a beard... carrying an axe and fighting a vampire. It's a little bit more out there than Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" biopic, to say the least.
Speaking to MTV in this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip, Benjamin Walker, who plays the reimagined Lincoln, downplayed the departure.
"He's the Abraham Lincoln we know; he's the hero," he told us. "In this context, he is also an action hero."
Walker certainly looks the part. Discussing the casting process, producer Jim Lemley said there was never any doubt. "Finding Abraham Lincoln is arguably the most complicated and difficult thing to do," he said. "Ben Walker came in and stood in front of us dressed as up as Abraham Lincoln and delivered the Gettsyburg Address and you just believed he wrote it.

History buffs and vampire enthusiasts get their first glimpse of the America’s 16th President in action in behind-the-scenes footage from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the historical drama-cum-monster movie directed by Timur Bekmambetov. Simultaneously, a new poster for the film debuted at Imp Awards, showing the President sitting atop the Lincoln Memorial and brandishing an axe. After an introduction by Ben Walker, who plays Lincoln, producer Jim Lemley discusses how Walker’s rendition of the Gettysburg Address (“as if he wrote it”) earned him the role. Bekmambetov echoes Lemley’s praise for the actor, indicating he forgot what Walker

After Darren Aronofsky dropped out of The Wolverine, studio bosses said they would move quickly to find a replacement.
That was in March and was followed a month later by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) confirming he would be meeting 20th Century Fox about Hugh Jackman's next X-Men spin-off.
But those discussions obviously didn't lead to anything concrete because Jones' name is nowhere to be found on a newly-released list of eight candidates for the director's chair.
According to Variety, multiple sources have confirmed that the following directors have been approached: Jose Padilha (Elite Squad, Elite Squad 2), Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr & Mrs Smith, Jumper), Antoine Fuqua (Tears of the Sun, King Arthur, Shooter), Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go), Justin Lin (Fast & Furious Five), Gavin O'Connor (Pride and Glory, upcoming Warrior), James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma, Knight and Day) and Gary Shore.

Though neither actor James McAvoy nor creator Mark Millar sounded too confident about the possibility of a sequel being made to Wanted in interviews conducted last month and eight months ago, respectively, producer Jim Lemley recently told MTV that Wanted 2 is not dead.
Speaking from the set of his new movie, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Lemley said that he and producing partner and director Timur Bekmambetov "still talk sometimes" about Wanted 2 and that, even though Angelina Jolie's character died at the end of the Wanted and the superstar actress is not interested in seeing her character resurrected, the "story has such a big idea behind it that it can also go on without her." In addition to returning to the world of Wanted, Lemley said that he and Bekmambetov would also like to revisit the post-apocalyptic animated world of 9 in a sequel.

While the status of Ghostbusters 3 is up in the air, another sequel that’s been just as uncertain is a sequel to Wanted. We last heard the film most likely won’t happen because Angelina Jolie won’t/can’t return (here), but Producer Jim Lemley says the film can still happen. “The reality is we love [Jolie] and we’d love to do it with her, but also that story has such a big idea behind it that it can also go on without her,” he said to MTV.
While Wanted seemed to finish itself up in a good way, Lemely says talk about a sequel “sometimes” happens. “We want to try and continue that story because it’s a very interesting one for us,” he said. Overall, don’t expect to see a sequel soon, if at all.

Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy are about to go head-to-head in summer box office competition with their respective franchises Kung Fu Panda and X-Men, which are due out within a week of each other, but rumors are starting to swirl that the blockbuster that once housed them both - the 2008 action hit Wanted - may still get a sequel. Jim Lemley, the producing partner of Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov, recently told MTV that they.d still like to tell more stories from that gun-toting universe (adapted from Mark Millar.s comic book series) and have not ruled out Jolie.s participation. The actress, however, has said in the past that she would not return for potential sequels, so Lemley let MTV know that while it would be preferred that she be on board, the story they.re circling is big enough that the franchise could move forward without her. But...

Timur Bekmambetov, who was the man behind the camera for the first film, is currently filming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, so when MTV was able to get a few moments with Wanted producer, Jim Lemley, they asked him about the status of the sequel to the Angelina Jolie starred film. His response maintains the rumors we've been hearing: that a sequel could still happen. Angelina Jolie has stated that her character is dead and that she would not be returning for a sequel and here is what Lemley had to say about the topic: "We still talk sometimes about 'Wanted 2,'" he told MTV News. Last we heard from the "Wanted" camp, plans for a sequel remained in limbo, without even star James McAvoy sure of the project's status.
With "Wanted" director Timur Bekmambetov currently hard at work on "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," MTV News made sure to ask his producing partner Jim Lemley whether a sequel to the 2008 hit starring McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman was still in the works.
"We still talk sometimes about 'Wanted 2,'" he told MTV News. "We want to try and continue that story because it's a very interesting one for us."
After Jolie made it clear that her character won't be returning for a sequel, many have wondered whether a second film can match the success of the original, which was a surprise hit at the box office.

Director Gareth Edwards debuted his indie sci-fi film Monsters at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. The film was shot guerrilla-style, and was a very low-budget venture, clocking in at about $500,000 and managed to score $4.2 million worldwide at the box office. Edwards is currently prepping to direct Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros’ forthcoming Godzilla reboot, and the director also has an untitled sci-fi thriller that is being co-produced by director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Vikrutasi) and Jim Lemley (9) in the pipeline.
