Schools: Elementary school in Budapest, secondary schools in Budapest,
Sarospatak (Hungary) and Zugerberg (Switzerland). 1951-52: Student of
the Hungarian Film School, which he has to leave for political reasons.
1952-56: Translates works by Jean Anouilh, Georges Sadoul and Bela
Balazs into Hungarian. 1956: Participates in the Hungarian Uprising and
has to leave the country with his family. Establishes himself in Paris.
1957-60: Writes and directs three short films financed by the French
Red Cross: "Un Homme dans l'Inhumanite" (about Imre Nagy), "Sans
Passeport" and "Terre Retrouvee" (both about refugees). 1960-62: Head
of Film Division, Ministry of Information, Nigeria. Writes, directs and
produces a newsreel, and various documentaries. 1962: Head of the
Nigerian Delegation to the Berlin Film Festival. Wins the "Silver Bear
Award" for "The Ancestors", a documentary film written, directed and
produced by him. Settles in West Berlin. 1962-72: Writes and directs
numerous TV films for German and US television (see Annex). Settles in
Munich. 1972: Becomes a German citizen, and creates his own production
company: "Andre Libik Filmproduktion" in Munich and Berlin. 1972-92:
Writes, directs and/or produces many films for German TV, becomes a
specialise for international co-productions. Wins various international
and German TV awards. Founding member of the German Association of Film
and TV Producers. Member of the German Union of Film Directors. 1992:
Resettles in Hungary. Resumes Hungarian citizenship. Continues to
produce films, but also represents German companies. Becomes one of the
initiators and managers of the "ALFA TV" project. 1994: The first
Hungarian to receive the "European Order of Merit" in the European
Parliament in Brussels. 1996: Knight of the Sovereign Order of St. John
of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta. Representative of the "European Order
of Merit" in Hungary. Member of the European Film Academy. "Golden
Butterfly" Prize of the Hungarian Ministry of Culture. 1997-2000:
Director for International Affairs of the United Nations European
Economic Commission's Regional Centre in Budapest. 1998: Knight
Commander of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights of
Malta. 1999-2001: Line Producer of various major German TV productions.
2000: Publishes his autobiography: "Pretty Girls and Terrorists" which
receives considerable critical acclaim. 2002-2006: Director for
International Affairs of the Central and East European Institute for
Environmental Development. 2006: Second edition of "Pretty Girls and
Terrorists" 2007: Director for International Affairs, Szechenyi
Scientific Society. 2008-2010: Secretary General, Szechenyi Scientific
Society.
