As an outside consultant at ID, Johnson headed some of the most successful recent awards campaigns, particularly for Searchlight, where he ran point on efforts for such movies as "Juno," "The Wrestler" and "Slumdog Millionaire."
On an awards circuit dominated by noise, Johnson ran effective campaigns that included such whimsical flourishes as sending awards-watchers a music box that played the "Slumdog" song "Jai Ho" and a hamburger phone to promote "Juno."
This year, Searchlight has an awards hopeful in "Amelia," Mira Nair's biopic about ill-fated U.S. pilot Amelia Earhart.
Johnson also has spearheaded theatrical campaigns for Summit pics including "Twilight."
