Bryan Ferry is revisiting his 1994 album Mamouna with a deluxe reissue that drops November 17th. A new vinyl pressing of the LP isn’t all the package has to offer, however: it also comes with a disc of early Sketches of the record’s songs, as well as a second, previously unreleased album from the era.
Cut at half-speed at Abbey Road Studios, Disc 1 in the Mamouna reissue offers the original album, mastered by Bob Ludwig. Next is Horoscope, an album of additional songs that Ferry began writing in 1989 on the way to releasing Mamouna. In addition to original solo music from the artist, the eight-track project features a 10-minute version of Roxy Music’s 1973 song “Mother of Pearl.”
Finally, the reissue features Sketches, or early versions of Mamouna songs recorded between 1989 and 1993. The disc features instrumental versions of tracks like “Your Painted Smile,” “NYC/Desdemona,” and “Loop De Li,...

One of Ahmet Zappa’s favorite memories of Captain Beefheart is the time he called the Zappa household to relate a particularly memorable dream.
“The fucking greatest [call] that ever happened to me was when he called and said, ‘Hell-ooooo, is your mo-other there?'” Zappa tells Rolling Stone, imitating Don Van Vliet’s signature warble. “‘Because I had a dream I wanted to tell her about.'”
Gail Zappa wasn’t home, but Ahmet couldn’t fight his curiosity; he asked the Magic Band leader what he’d dreamed of.

The Rolling Stones have released new lyric videos for “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and the classic 1968 single’s B-side, “Child of the Moon.”
The two animated clips were helmed by Tom Readdy and Lucy Dawkins of the London-based design studio Yes Please Productions. The “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” clip boasts a simple red, black, and white color palette, although the animation is a dazzling mix of sharp angles and swirling psychedelia.

With the Grammy eligibility period for the 2022 ceremony more than halfway done already, let’s consider which artists are looking for more than just an award. This year we saw Beyoncé break the all-time record for most Grammy wins by a female artist, Taylor Swift nab a record-breaking third Album of the Year win, and key noms and wins for Megan Thee Stallion, Roddy Ricch, and Jacob Collier. Who’s poised to break more records and make more history next year?
SEE2022 Grammy predictions: Song of the Year Bruno Mars’s general field dominance again?

Steve Perry believes that any great song should be able to withstand a campfire test. “You take any song and sit near a campfire with an acoustic guitar and sing it, the song should be able to survive,” says the former Journey frontman. “It should work just as a melody with lyrics. If the vocal is strong enough to stand on its own, you’ll know it right away.”
About six months ago, Perry began thinking that the songs from his 2018 comeback LP Traces could survive such a test. He...

John Fogerty and his three children have spent their time in quarantine performing classics and uploading them on YouTube, including “Lodi,” “The City of New Orleans,” and others. Now, on his 75th birthday, the rocker and his family have released Fogerty’s Factory, an Ep of the songs.
The title of the Ep is a nod to Creedence Clearwater Revival’s 1970 album Cosmo’s Factory, which turns 50 on July 16th. “Our family got together and decided we would spread some joy with music in these trying times,” Fogerty said in a statement.

I have to admit that 2012 has practically bombarded music lovers with an astounding amount of fantastic debuts this year. It’s enough to give anyone hope that for every terrible generic band they hear, there’s another band giving it their all in a studio somewhere, proving that hard work can pay off. Thought Beneath Film is one of those bands, and they present enough talent to keep the radios turned up for a long time to come.
Playing an extremely catchy brand of pop-rock, Thought Beneath Film have a chemistry and youthful vigor that helps make up for any of the mistakes made on their debut. With snappy, shining production and songs that get stuck in your head instantly, Detours is a promising opening number from a band that has nowhere to go but up.

There’s nothing quite like stumbling onto something you could grow to love. Within the next few days, I’m sure that that something will be Thought Beneath Film, an up and coming pop-rock band hailing from Hamilton. Set to release their debut Ep Detours next week, fans of the genre will be hearing a lot more from them in the future.
With two legendary names in music involved in the creation of the Ep, it’s easy to get excited for what’s to come. Tom Lord-Alge, who is renowned for his work with bands such as Blink-182 and Weezer, played an integral role, as did Bob Ludwig, whose work with Nirvana and Foo Fighters still stands as some of the best in the business. For a band with nothing released yet, that’s an impressive roster to have backing you.
