Seemingly tired of pulling the “buffer face” for Ee, Footloose star Kevin Bacon has signed on to topline Greg McLean’s Jungle — an upcoming survival tale set in the unforgiving Amazon rainforest circa 1981.
That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, who state that the 56-year old star will indeed reunite with the director, following the pair’s work on the soon-to-be-released horror thriller, 6 Miranda Drive.
Taking inspiration from the real-life account of adventure-seeker Yossi Ghinsberg, Jungle will follow Bacon’s protagonist who finds himself lost in more tropical regions of Bolivia. With only himself for company, the film will chart his extraordinary story as he fights for survival in the Amazon rainforest for a full three weeks.
Given that Jungle is, by the sounds of things, a concentrated and contained picture, it’ll be interesting to see how Bacon performs on his lonesome. There’s no doubting the actor’s...

Game of Thrones. Peter Dinklage is in talks to star in the pilot for an HBO series scripted by Sydney-based Justin Monjo and produced by Ben Stiller.s Red Hour Films.
The prolific Monjo is also writing the screenplay for Farscape, a movie spin-off of the sci-fi series that ran on the Nine Network and the Sci-Fi Channel in the Us, for Jim Henson Productions, to be directed by Brian Henson.
Dinklage would play a dwarf detective in The Beasts of Valhalla, based on a series of novels by the late George C. Chesbro. Monjo read the books years ago but could not think of an actor who was right for the role of the sleuth named Mongo until he saw Dinklage in Game of Thrones.
.It.s a grounded sci-fi series,. says Monjo, who flies to New York next month to discuss the project with Dinklage, with whom he has corresponded.

A Thousand Kisses Deep
Stars: Emilia Fox, Dougray Scott, David Warner, Jodie Whittaker | Written by Alex Kustanovich, Vadim Moldovan | Directed by Dana Lustig
When a film is described as being “an unsettling drama that cinematically captures and recreates the psycho-analytic experience.” and is influenced by a song by Leonard Cohen you can tell it’s probably going to take some thinking about. When it adds some time travel in too then you know it could get confusing. A Thousand Kisses Deep is not really confusing, but it could lose a few people in what it’s trying to achieve.
When Mia witnesses an old woman falling to her death she is obviously in shock, but with this shock is also bewilderment at the fact that this woman had Mia’s pictures in her hand when she fell. This leads her to investigate the woman’s apartment to discover that things are not what they seem.

Science fiction is a notoriously difficult genre to pull off on a low-budget, but as proven here in Dana Lustig’s A Thousand Kisses Deep, it’s not impossible. Though scribes Alex Kustanovich and Vadim Moldovan don’t appear to have decided on a firm set of rules to govern their time travel conceit, they have concocted enough surprises and secured a strong enough cast to see it through.
Though employing the titular Leonard Cohen poem as a framing device feels a little too precious, the film effectively builds a mystery from frame one. The ice-cold opening, which is so abrupt it feels like something was cut, aims to create sharp memories in the viewer’s mind which will be important later on.
Mia (Jodie Whittaker) is a mess. Her mother has recently died, she works odd hours as a nurse, and her life lacks both balance and meaning.

A Thousand Kisses Deep is a psychological thriller from director Dana Lustig (Blackout). From one source, A Thousand Kisses Deep involves psychoanalytic theory (Freud), but the synopsis from Gold Crest Post seems to allude to time travel and science fiction. Dana Lustig describes her new film as "A Kafkaesque story of a woman who travels back in time to undo a romantic relationship and avoid its tragic finale."
Lustig's A Thousand Kisses Deep is a thriller will time-travel elements and stars Dougray Scott, Jodie Whittaker, Emilia Fox, and David Warner. The strange synopsis is reminiscent of something crazy French director Marina de Van might make - identity and reality are blurred, and the female protagonist must figure out who she is and how to survive when she doesn't even know what going on. Shot in London over winter 2010, the movie has supernatural goings-on that I'm excited to watch.
Israeli-born Lustig produced the 2007 mystery thriller Brick and has more than a few films under her belt as a director. A Thousand Kisses Deep will be out on DVD soon - we'll keep you posted as soon as we hear distribution details.

PARK CITY -- The mean streets don't get any nastier than the high school parking lots in this cool-crafted mystery. A crowd-pleaser here at Sundance, Brick is a dazzling slab of hard noir storytelling with lineage from The Maltese Falcon to The Usual Suspects. A marketing challenge would be to extend the viewership beyond teens and lure adults into this high school netherworld.
In filmic terms, the "brick" in this hard case is the MacGuffin, the key to our white knight's quest to find out why his ex-girlfriend died. The avenging "detective" in this instance is, according to form, a loner named Brendan ( Joseph Gordon-Levitt ). He's wiry, wears glasses and has no qualms about stepping on, and crushing, big toes.
In writer/director Rian Johnson's hard-charged scenario, Brendan tears through the strata of his California high school, dealing with all the usual generic suspects: thugs, potheads, vamps and authority figures. He gets tips from a fellow loner, The Brain ( Matt O'Leary) and all sorts of offers from the school vamp/tramps: the rich girl (Nora Zehetner) and the drama queen (Meagan Good). In this shrewdly calibrated piece, Johnson has served up a rich mix of red herrings, femme fatales, heat, dealings and death. When he's pieced it all together, all sewers lead to The Pin, a bat-like Beelzebub with a Kaiser Soyse mystique.
The well-selected cast is headed by Gordon-Levitt as a sinewy Sam Spade -- brash, obsessive and tough. Zehetner is fetchingly devious as the rich girl, and Good is "bad" as the floozy femme. Lukas Haas, with his big round eyes and protuberant ears, is downright eerie as the enigmatic druglord. Haas' open-eyed gaze, which is the same innocent look he gave in Witness, is iced here with a sinister glare. He's the Devil, with cape and cane, to boot.
Under Johnson's articulate command, technical contributions are superb, most prominently cinematographer Steve Yedlin's luminous, charged framings which should be a major contender for the fest's cinematography award. Adding wicked counterpoint to the sleaziness is Nathan Johnson's music. Deliciously oozy woodwinds wrap and coil around the plot -- more devious charm in this hard-formed Brick.
