One of the coolest guys of the eighties was Tom Selleck, and everyone absolutely loved him playing the laid-back Thomas Magnum on the classic series Magnum, P.I. Running from 1980 to 1988; the show proved to be a mixed blessing for its star, as Selleck had auditioned to play Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark and was actually chosen to play the part. He had to pass because he had already shot the pilot for Magnum, P.I., and the network wouldn’t let him out of his contract.
While passing up the opportunity to play the whip-wielding archeologist must have stung, Magnum P.I. ran for eight years and was one of the biggest shows of the decade. Selleck became a household name and parlayed his success on the show into a series of film roles (including Best Movie You Never Saw fave Runaway), culminating with the release of Three Men and a Baby,...

You can always count on Frank Reagan for a different perspective.
Blue Bloods Season 13 Episode 18 tackled the issues surrounding other states bussing many immigrants to New York City. When most shows tackle the immigration issue, the villains are heartless bureaucrats or racist governors who don't want brown-skinned Spanish speakers in the United States.
But Blue Bloods examined this complex issue from Frank's point of view as a police administrator dealing with an overly idealistic mayor, providing a unique perspective. Meanwhile, Eddie and Jamie tackled another serious problem: fentanyl-related deaths.
Mayor Chase's impracticality was so ridiculous that I could only hope no real-life mayors share his perspective. It was admirable that he wanted to help all these immigrants, but he didn't seem to have any idea of how things work.
Chase wanted Frank to divert police from their daily beats to protect refugee tents and had little to no understanding...

Fans of the original Magnum P.I. who can get their minds off the hunky Tom Selleck in his shorts and Hawaiian shirts, probably fondly remember his former Marine buddy turned beach club manager Orville “Rick “Wright, the comic relief, mob-connected brawler played by Larry Manetti. Manetti has shown up in several episodes of the rebooted Magnum series in a new role as retired crooner Nicky Demarco (with one more appearance slated). But it’s taken him 13 years to film an episode of his still great friend Selleck’s Blue Bloods. The 75-year-old actor tells us all about the episode and his time on the show and offers an exclusive update on his health. How did your guest spot in the April 21 episode, “Family Matters” come about? Why did it take so long for you to show up on Blue Bloods? Larry Manetti: First of all, Tom did not want...

Blue Bloods is back, and it's the episode many have been waiting for.
Larry Manetti, who played Rick Wright on the Tom Selleck-led version of Magnum Pi in the 1980s, makes a long-anticipated guest appearance.
Manetti's character may not have much to do with Frank Reagan. Spoilers for Blue Bloods Season 13 Episode 18 say that the actor will portray a grieving grandfather who turns to Eddie for help.
This sounds like an emotional storyline involving lots of Jamie/Eddie interactions. Win-win!
Manetti's character turns to Eddie after his grandson dies from a fentanyl overdose. He wants Eddie to bust the dealer who sold his grandson the fatal batch of drugs, and Eddie will need Jamie's help to get it done.

Stephen Hill is happy to be soaring in the skies above Oahu again.
That’s a bit of an exaggeration as Hill’s character, Theodore Calvin, is a chopper pilot on the NBC drama Magnum P.I.
But recently, he found himself up in the air as CBS canceled the series after four seasons, only to have NBC scoop it up about six weeks later.
In an exclusive interview, the cordial Hill said that he never doubted that the tales of T.C. and the rest of the Magnum gang would continue.
“There was something in me that felt so unfinished with this project and this character,” Hill recalled. “It felt unnatural not to be working on it. I also knew they were working on bringing it back behind the scenes. The fact they were even working on it gave us hope from the very beginning.”
And when word of the pick-up came down,...

In the latest TV ratings, Fox’s SmackDown led Friday in the demo, while CBS’ Blue Bloods and Fire Country copped the night’s biggest audiences.

Magnum P.I. was one of the most successful TV shows of the ’80s. With Tom Selleck in the lead, the crime drama aired on CBS from 1980 to 1988. Three decades have passed since the show went off the air, and the series has seen several actors die. One Magnum P.I. cast member — Roger E. Mosley — suffered a tragic death after a paralyzing car crash last year.

CBS’ Blue Bloods — now with a softer lead-in — marked its 200th episode on Friday night with 7.8 million total viewers and a 0.6 rating, down 8 percent and two tenths from its Season 9 average and finale to mark its second-smallest audience ever and match its demo low. That said, the cop drama easily delivered, as it does, Friday’s largest audience.

Well, at least Dr. Madison Gray finally returned.
But whether it was for the last time is still up in the air at the end of Hawaii Five-0 Season 7 Episode 17.
Gray, first unveiled on Hawaii Five-0 Season 7, Episode 4, had been a Machiavellian, behind-the-scenes character, getting serial killers to kill for her.
So it was an intriguing change of pace to have her stumble into Hpd with bloody hands, claiming to be a tourist from Wisconsin with amnesia.
This naturally fooled no one within Five-0, who knew her true identity. Especially McGarrett, who is probably still angry that she blew up his pickup. After all, cars are his to destroy.
The interesting twist is when the blood comes back as a partial match to Alicia Brown, the profiler that was kidnapped along with McGarrett by Gray.
Alicia was found alive, and clueless, by McGarrett and Grover. So the question became "What was Gray's end game"?

The TV sequel that never even occurred to you looks to be on target as ABC is developing a Magnum P.I. for modern times. Deadline is reporting that Leverage creator John Rogers and Eva Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment are in the process of creating a follow-up to the 1980s private investigator drama which starred Tom Selleck (and his trademark mustache) as the title character. But in this update, the show will center on Magnum’s daughter, Lily “Tommy” Magnum. “We knew no one could replace the iconic role of Thomas Magnum, so John decided to make the reboot a sequel and continue the adventure of a Magnum — his daughter, who was established in the original series,” Longoria and Spector told the publication. In Magnum 2.0, “Tommy” comes back to Hawaii to run her dad’s investigation firm. No word yet on who will be cast for the title role, but...

Carol Burnett's big month has involved a trip to Hawaii ... "Hawaii Five-0," more specifically.
The latest recipient of the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the show-business legend guest-stars in Friday's (Nov. 22) episode of the CBS crime drama as McGarrett's (Alex O'Loughlin) aunt. Her Thanksgiving visit to him and his sister Mary Ann (recurring guest Taryn Manning) isn't all pleasure, given a secret she eventually reveals.
"It went beautifully," the ever-friendly Burnett tells Zap2it of her "Five-0" stint. "I really love that crew. Everything I was doing this month, which was a lot, turned out to be great fun. I would lie awake at night with my mind spinning about each thing that was coming up, thinking, 'How am I gonna do this?' And it isn't worth it, because everything was fine. It all worked out."
Burnett describes McGarrett's Aunt Deb as "a good person.

This weekend marks the opening of the highly anticipated film "The A-Team", the action film based on the wildly popular 80's television show. On a personal note I've been dying to see this film ever since the first trailer came out.
TV shows being made into movies is hardly a new phenomena. "Star Trek", "Transformers", "The Brady Bunch", "Mission Impossible", "Lost In Space"... well... the list goes on and on and on.
One of the ripest picking grounds for TV shows to be adapted into movies seems to be the 1980's, and "The A-Team" is just the lastest... but it certainly isn't going to be the last.
Right now there are a handful shows from the 80's being developed for the big screen, and right now I thought I'd run down 4 high profile ones that you may not have known were coming to an AMC near you in the foreseeable future!

Chicago – Where would Thomas Sullivan Magnum had been without his trusty sidekick Rick Wright? Chicago-born Larry Manetti was Rick Wright on “Magnum P.I,” and has just re-released his book of memories with the show, “Aloha, Magnum.”
Manetti was born in Chicago and as an actor headed to Hollywood in 1972. His connection to another Chicagoan, Robert Conrad, landed him on the series “Baa Baa Black Sheep” [1976-78]. Between TV guest roles and film parts he caught the attention of the producers of Magnum P.I.[1980-88], and portrayed club owner and Magnum friend Rick Wright for the entire series run.
In 1999, he sat down to write about his adventures in Aloha, Magnum. He recently re-released the book, which is available through his website, LarryManetti.com.

Tom Selleck starred as the sexy and Hawaiian shirt-wearing private investigator Thomas Magnum for eight seasons on CBS. The Hawaii-based action adventure series Magnum P.I. ran for 157 episodes from 1980 - 1988 and also starred actors John Hillerman, Roger E. Mosley and Larry Manetti. Like many other popular classic shows, the series has been rumored to get "the big screen treatment" for years but now it looks like it may finally happen.
It's being reported that Rawson Marshall Thurber (director and writer of Dodgeball and the upcoming The Mysteries of Pittsburgh) has completed a redraft of a Magnum script. Thurber was signed to write and direct the project in early 2006.
In addition, much of the film's main cast has already been chosen -- with new actors in the familiar roles. For now, the word is that Matthew McConaughey will play Thomas Magnum, with Tyrese Gibson as chopper flying T.C. Calvin, Steve Zahn as friend Rick Wright,...

Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney will reportedly play TV private investigator Magnum PI in a big screen version of the 80s hit show. Pals of the actor say Clooney is desperate to take on the role made famous on the small screen by Tom Selleck between 1980 and 1988. They claim the mustachioed Magnum completes a "holy trinity" of roles Clooney has secretly coveted; "He's wanted to play three characters since he started acting - Danny Ocean in Ocean's Eleven, Hannibal in the A-Team and Magnum. He's had the A-Team movie in the works for a while now, so he's been chasing this one really hard." Hollywood sources say the film, which will begin shooting next year, will feature the brand new $800,000 Ferrari Enzo sports car in place of Magnum's classic Ferrari 308 Gts. But the identities of who will play Magnum's side-kicks Theodore 'TC' Calvin, Orville 'Rick' Wright and Jonathan Quayle Higgins III - played by Roger E Mosley, Larry Manetti and John Hillerman in the TV original - are being kept top secret. Manetti recently slammed plans to recreate the show without its original cast as "an outrage".
