Jewel and Melissa Etheridge will be going on tour together this year.
Last Tuesday, the 90s icons announced their upcoming tour, which will have them go around the country to make stops in cities like Las Vegas, Los Angeles and St. Augustine, Florida.
The tour will last through most of the summer and it won’t end there, as it will continue through the beginning weeks of fall.
They are scheduled to kick off on July 11 in Bonner, Montana, and end in Rogers, Arkansas, on October 5.
The last time Jewel was on stage was last September in Lincoln, California. Etheridge, on the other hand, is currently preparing for her “I’m Not Broken” Tour, which begins in March and ends in April.
In December last year, Jewel and newly divorced Kevin Costner sparked dating rumors when they were spotted in the Virgin Islands.

By 1977, Dolly Parton songs had long been hits on country charts. She believed she could be a bigger star, though, so she hired Sandy Gallin as her manager. While they hit it off right away, he pushed her musically, believing that she could be a success on the pop charts too. She felt terrified that her first crossover song, “Here You Come Again,” would alienate her longtime listeners.
Dolly Parton released her first crossover song in 1977
After years of establishing herself as a country artist, Parton reached out to Gallin, who had already worked with a number of stars.
“I started right in telling him that I wanted to be a star, a big star,” she wrote in her book Dolly: My Life and Other Unfinished Business, adding, “I told him that with the right help there was no end to what I could do. I knew that he managed...

The Monkees were lucky enough to have prolific songwriters working behind the scenes to craft songs for their music catalog. Many came from New York’s Brill Building, where they worked for the show’s music producer, Don Kirshner. One of these songwriters was Carole King, who, along with her husband Gerry Goffin, wrote tunes on almost every Monkees album except one, perhaps the most important of the band’s career.

Mike Nesmith was a songwriter ahead of his success with The Monkees. Therefore, he felt a kinship with other like-minded people who also found creative release in this job. He was lucky enough to work alongside some of the greatest writers in the industry for The Monkees. Carole King was one of these songwriters. However, for as much as he “loved” King, Nesmith claimed, “I just can’t stand her records.”

As a member of The Monkees, Mike Nesmith was responsible for writing some of the band’s most unforgettable songs. Although behind-the-scenes of The Monkees television show, the powers-that-be relied on a stable of prolific songwriters to pen many of the band’s tunes, Nesmith muscled his way into their league with a series of songs that remain fan favorites to this day. However, he could not shake one song in particular, which appeared on deluxe editions of two Monkees albums and two of his solo recordings.

The Monkees bassist Peter Tork spent most of his time as a band member singing backup for Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith, and Micky Dolenz. But, when given a chance to sing lead on songs such as “Your Auntie Grizelda” and “Come on In,” Peter’s vocal abilities shone through. However, there was one song on the band’s third album, Headquarters, that Peter regretted not singing lead on. He later admitted, “I should’ve fought to do it.”

The Seattle world premiere of the Jaws-inspired stage musical Bruce has reeled in its Steven Spielberg: The Tony-nominated actor Jarrod Spector will play the young filmmaker circa 1974 as he confronts various challenges while directing what would become the most ferocious of all summer blockbusters.
Not least of those challenges: the “highly dysfunctional mechanical star named Bruce,” as the musical’s synopsis states, referring to the robot shark that made filming a nightmare.
Based on The Jaws Log, a 1975 nonfiction behind-the-scenes account of the film’s production by Jaws co-screenwriter Carl Gottlieb, the musical, directed and choreographed by Stratford Festival’s Donna Feore, begins previews at Seattle Rep’s Bagley Wright Theater on May 27, with opening night set for June 8. Dominating music charts – and Oscar’s Best Original Song category – in 1973 with “The Morning After,” from The Poseidon Adventure, and again in ’75 with “We May Never Love Like This Again” from The Towering Inferno, Kasha and Hirschhorn returned to film songwriting with 1977’s Disney classic Pete’s Dragon. The duo was Oscar-nominated for that song score and the song “Candle On The Water,” sung by Pete’s Dragon star Helen Reddy.
For his Broadway stage work, Kasha received Tony Award nominations for the scores of 1981’s Copperfield and 1982’s Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

As Rolling Stone reported last month, Bob Dylan’s heartfelt Time Out of Mind track “Make You Feel My Love” has oddly become one of his most-covered songs, with more than 400 interpretations to date. One of those is by Michael Bolton, who included a version with German singer Helene Fischer on a recent duets album.
But as Bolton was reminded during a recent conversation with Rs, it wasn’t the first Dylan song he put on tape. Nearly 30 years ago, the two unlikely collaborators — rock’s preeminent songwriter and pop...

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, one of the most popular Broadway shows in recent seasons and the rare jukebox musical as beloved by critics as by audiences, will end its nearly six-year Broadway run on October 27, producers announced tonight.
Based on the songs of its titular pop legend and her inner circle, Beautiful earned seven Tony nominations in 2014 and won a pair, including one for lead actress Jessie Mueller. The musical will close having played 2,418 regular performances and 60 previews. It’s Broadway’s second-longest-running bio-musical and the longest-running and highest-grossing show in the Stephen Sondheim Theatre’s history.
The production recouped its $13 million capitalization within nine months, but even it wasn’t immune to a generally tough summer for Broadway. In recent weeks, Beautiful has been grossing at about half, or just above half, of its $994,804 weekly potential. Although the summer has been hard on newer shows — with recent or...

Carole King surprised the Broadway audience at last night’s fifth-anniversary performance of Beautiful, the musical about her journey through the music business, performing the title song that caps the show.
The moment, which recreates King’s triumphant 1971 Carnegie Hall concert, brought audience members to their feet. (See video below.)
After the finale, King joined the cast during the curtain call, appearing alongside Chilina Kennedy, who currently plays the lead role. After King and the cast performed the encore (“I Feel The Earth Move”), she reflected on the phenomenon the show has become.
“What a night!” King said. “It was amazing to be a part of this. This musical has been such a magical experience. To be here and celebrate our fifth anniversary with so much joy and love is amazing.”
In a press release, producers Paul Blake and Mike Bosner described the show as “an experience unlike any other.

The beginning of Beautiful, which opened in Los Angeles at the Pantages Theater this week, isn’t a full-blown orchestral overture to introduce the story of legendary singer-songwriter Carole King as one might expect from a Broadway musical. Instead, it starts with a lone baby grand on the stage and Sarah Bockel, who plays the titular music icon, walking out on stage as if this is her memorable 1971 concert at Carnegie Hall. She sits at the piano and starts performing “So Far Away”, swaddling the audience with the emotional song about two distant lovers, setting the tone for this jukebox musical that doesn’t feel anything like a jukebox musical.
As Bockel sings the words from “So Far Away”, she embodies quintessential 1971 King with her gorgeous mane of hair and a pre-disco era maxi dress that flows with Earth mother realness. With a tinge of a Brooklyn accent, she talks to the audience,...

Chicago – Carole King, from modest roots and beginnings, went on to become the most successful female songwriter of the last forty years of the 20th Century. So this “natural woman” was perfect for a musical overview of her life and great songs, in “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.”
Play Rating: 4.0/5.0
The structure and songs are the highlight of King’s life story, starting in the late 1950s on Tin Pan Alley (the songwriting strip of Broadway in New York City) to a triumphant Carnegie Hall Concert as a 1970s solo act. Along the way there are the social changes of the 1960s and a legendary songwriting partnership, in addition to the sorrow of the breakup and the evolution of starting over. It is the American Dream and the American songbook rolled into one breezy evening, and the truth of Carole King within the musical is evident from beginning to end.

Chicago – While a musical stage play is known for its songs rather than dialogue or story, all has to be created. And the playwright for the opening-in-Chicago “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” is veteran actor, director and scribe Douglas McGrath. ‘Beautiful’ opens December 1st, 2015, at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago.
“Beautiful” is a so-called jukebox musical with a twist. It takes the tunes of singer/songwriter Carole King, but integrates them within the story of Ms. King, who rose from a teenage song creator to a pop artist in her own right (“Tapestry” was her million seller album). The poignancy, in both the good and not-so-good times, are all told in the musical, which was crafted by Douglas McGrath.

From Bananaman to Grange Hill, join us in a spot of TV nostalgia as we celebrate 50 great 1980s kids' TV theme songs...
There comes a time to turn away from the horrors of the world and retreat underneath the soft, comforting duvet of nostalgia. That time is Friday. That metaphorical duvet is below.
Here are fifty of the best kids’ TV theme songs (spread over two pages and in arbitrary order) of the 1980s. Some, like Alan Hawkshaw’s distinctive Grange Hill intro, are unarguable classics of the era, while others, like Mike Harding's Count Duckula, only started in the late-eighties and spent the rest of their run in the next decade.
Obviously, there being only 50 on this list, we may have missed out your favourite (deliberately or otherwise). Let us know if so, but remember that links may take a while to appear in the comments thread because...

From Muppet Treasure Island to Speed, we take a look at the 90s soundtracks that deserve another listen...
Ah, the 1990s. The decade that brought us The Lion King. Titanic. Quentin Tarantino. That wordless bathroom scene in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. Angelo Badalamenti's Twin Peaks. Duel of the Fates from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. In the Mood for Love.
It was a good 10 years for film music, no doubt.
But scratch the surface of 1991 through 1999 and there are tons of good scores ready to spring a surprise on your ears. Some were attached to sorely underrated movies, others were overshadowed by wildly successful ones, and some have simply been forgotten in the passage of time.
Here, in no particular order, are the top 25 underappreciated film soundtracks from the 1990s.
1. Chaplin - John Barry
Okay, let's start with a big one. Richard Attenborough. Robert Downey Jr. John Barry.

If you caught Carole King performing with Sara Bareilles at the 2014 Grammys, you’d know just how timeless an artist King and her work are. Her Diamond graded pop-album Tapestry from 1971 is a masterpiece, and one of the best selling albums of all time. And though today King maybe doesn’t get the indie cred as some of her ’70s, singer/songwriter female contemporaries like say, Joni Mitchell, that may be about to change.
