What a way to start off the week! The formidable cast list for Showtime's forthcoming Twin Peaks revival series was revealed this morning, and man, is it a doozy. In addition to boasting such key returning players as Kyle MacLachlan (Dale Cooper), Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer/Maddy Ferguson) and Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne), there are a number of surprising A-listers in the mix including Michael Cera, Trent Reznor, Amanda Seyfried and Naomi Watts. On the downside, a not-insignificant number of cast members from both the original series and the 1992 prequel film Fire Walk with Me are completely absent from the list. Where, for instance, is Lara Flynn Boyle (or Moira Kelly, for that matter)? Michael Ontkean? Piper Laurie? Joan Chen? Anyone from the mill? (Literally, there is no one from the mill.) So while I'm thankful that most of the major players are back in action, I can't help but...

It's a great time to be a "Twin Peaks" fan, and speculating which actors will be involved in the upcoming Showtime revival -- which has already started filming in Washington State -- is a fun diversion for die-hards. While I'm not interested in actual plot details (co-creator Mark Frost has responded to the multitude of fan-taken set photos by imploring them to #KeeptheMysteryAlive), I am curious to know which characters we can expect to see 25 (or 26, if the show premieres in 2017) years after the original series left the airwaves. To that end, I'll be keeping tabs on the involvement of 33 still-living "Twin Peaks" stars via a running list, which I've compiled below and which I'll be updating as more information presents itself via sightings, social media posts and actual confirmations by Lynch, Frost and the stars themselves (to date, only one of the original actors has been officially confirmed to return). First,...

Twin Peaks, Season 2, Episode 22, “Beyond Life And Death”
Written by Mark Frost & Harley Peyton & Robert Engels
Directed by David Lynch
Aired June 10th, 1991 on ABC
“Wow, Bob, wow. Fire, walk with me.” – The Man From Another Place
Les: And so, we’ve come to the end of our look back at Twin Peaks. After two seasons and 30 episodes of cherry pie and damn good coffee, dancing dwarves and one-armed men, Invitation To Love and One-Eyed Jack’s, Ghostwood Estates and Black Lodge, cross-dressing David Duchovny and near-deaf David Lynch, Twin Peaks was canceled in the summer of 1991. Going from its position as a genuine hit—with a premiere watched by over 34 million people—the life of Twin Peaks ended not with a bang but a whimper. The show lost its focus as Lynch and Mark Frost stepped back, and audiences stepped back along with it, the show shedding viewers every...

Twin Peaks, Season 1, Episode 1, “Northwest Passage”
Written by Mark Frost and David Lynch
Directed by David Lynch
Aired April 8, 1990 on ABC
“Diane, 7:30 am, February 24th. Entering town of Twin Peaks. Five miles south of the Canadian border, twelve miles west of the state line. Never seen so many trees in my life. As W.C. Fields would say, I’d rather be here than Philadelphia. … Lunch was $6.31 at the Lamplighter Inn. That’s on Highway Two near Lewis Fork. That was a tuna fish sandwich on whole wheat, a slice of cherry pie and a cup of coffee. Damn good food. Diane, if you ever get up this way, that cherry pie is worth a stop.” – Dale Cooper
In the nearly 25 years since Twin Peaks debuted on ABC, the show has achieved an almost mythic status in the canon of television. Not only has it influenced a legion of other shows,...

Following years of frustration that left Twin Peaks fans feeling like headbutting a mirror much like evil Dale Cooper in the TV show's final scene, the improbable dream has finally materialised. 90 minutes of deleted and extended scenes shot by David Lynch for his misunderstood masterpiece Fire Walk With Me, a cinematic prequel to the series, have finally been released as part of the 'Entire Mystery' box set. But were they worth waiting for?
The answer is a resounding yes. They are, excuse me, a Damn fine addition to the world of Twin Peaks. I can't tell you how many deleted scenes I've seen in my life, but these are some of the best.
David Lynch has personally assembled the footage as a standalone entity rather than cutting it back into the already lengthy movie, miraculously ensuring that the scenes retain a flow and rhythm across the 90 minutes, despite their disjointed nature.

A box-office failure, David Lynch's Fire Walk With Me divided critics in 1992. James looks back at a surreal cult film...
When Vincent Canby famously described Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992) as "…not the worst movie ever made; it just seems to be," the renowned Us critic was merely reflecting the overwhelming response to David Lynch’s big-screen prequel to his recently cancelled TV show.
Audibly jeered by the notoriously fickle festival crowd at its unveiling in Cannes, even fellow filmmakers joined the chorus of disapproval against Lynch.
At the festival for the first time with his debut feature, Reservoir Dogs, director Quentin Tarantino went so far as to say: "I’m not ragging on other people, but after I saw Fwwm […] David Lynch has disappeared so far up his own ass that I have no desire to watch another […] Lynch film until I hear something different.

The first Massachusetts Independent Film Festival is taking place Thursday, December 1st, in Arlington, Ma, and one of the highlights is sure to be the debut of Christopher Di Nunzio's new film Her Heart Still Beats hosted by Patricia Films and Creepy Kid Productions, which will be followed by a Q&A. Also screening that night are six other films by some of New England's best independent filmmakers.
The festival promoters hope to make Miff a yearly event. They will connect local filmmakers by having a section devoted to New England films and also plan to have a section for horror films, a genre that is often forgotten on the festival circuit. The Massachusetts Independent Film Fest will be truly indie... big budgets need not apply!
It's being held at The Regent Theatre (click here for tickets), 7 Medford Street, Arlington, Massachusetts - Thursday, December 1, 7:30Pm

Most Christmas specials are colorful and saccharine. That's not a bad thing, of course. It's brought us the wonders of Rudolph, the jolly ho-ho-ho of Santa Claus. But sometimes it's nice to have a sliver of darkness, something beyond Charles Dickens' ghostly look at the past, present, and future. Like, for example, a wholly different other-worldly fellow, one much more sinister with his palindrome name, teamed with sea creatures in the brew and messages to Diane.
Yes, a little blip of Twin Peaks-themed Christmas. After the jump you can watch a Lynchian "12 Days of Christmas." This is not a retro spoof.
