“The Martian” has been called “‘Cast Away’ on Mars” in various corners of the Internet, but it’s actually quite a different movie than the 2000 Tom Hanks film. Yes, Matt Damon’s astronaut is stranded in a place where he has little hope of surviving, but he approaches the extremely treacherous situation very differently from Hanks’ character. Damon’s character remains rather humorous, upbeat and optimistic in his time persevering to survive on the Red Planet. That optimism is largely what spoke to “The Martian” screenwriter Drew Goddard when he read the novel by Andy Weir that’s the basis for the film, which opened in theaters yesterday. Goddard (whose past credits include “The Cabin in the Woods,” “Lost” and “Buffy”) spoke to HitFix about the challenges of adapting a book with a lot of technical language, why he considers “The Martian” a “religious movie,” and which book moment that...

Meet the crew of the Ares mission to Mars! From astronaut Mark Watney, played by Matt Damon, to commander Melissa Lewis, played by Jessica Chastain, to pilot Rick Martinez, played by Michael Peña, to flight surgeon Christopher Beck, played by Sebastian Stan. There are a few more, but they don't make it into this video. In promotion for Ridley Scott's The Martian movie, which looks fantastic (see the first trailer), Fox has launched another viral video teaser. The description explains: "Nasa offers a declassified look at the psychological testing involved in preparing the Ares 3 crew for their journey to Mars." It's a fun little viral video, and likely another tease for another trailer coming soon. Excited for this movie. See below. Here's the new Ares 3 viral video for Ridley Scott's The Martian, direct from the Ares Live YouTube page: You can rewatch the first intro to the Hermes...

Chances are you got your first proper look at Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi film The Martian from the exclusive pictures we put in print and online late last month. If you were hoping to see footage of Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain and some of the rest of the cast, we have you covered for that too, as the first promo video for the film is now online.Yes, before we’ve even had a formal trailer for the film, here comes a glimpse of the various astronauts who crew the Hermes, the ship that makes up the Ares 3 mission. They’re shown in happier times as botanist Watney leads an introductory tour of the vessel and its team before they leave for Mars. Included here are Michael Peña as pilot Rick Martinez, Jessica Chastain as Commander Melissa Lewis, Sebastian Stan as Dr. Chris Beck, the flight surgeon, Aksel Hennie as German astronaut Aleks Vogel,...

"Crew Fact: Huge fan of classic Kung Fu movies." 20th Century Fox has debuted a fantastic promo video for The Martian adapted from Andy Weir's novel, directed by Ridley Scott. The video is a viral promo for Nasa featuring astronaut Mark Watney, played by Matt Damon, who takes us on a tour of the Hermes spacecraft soon embarking on the Ares 3 mission to Mars. In the video we get to meet crew members: Kate Mara as Beth Johanssen, Michael Peña as Rick Martinez, Sebastian Stan as Chris Beck, Aksel Hennie as Alex Vogel, and Jessica Chastain as Melissa Lewis. And finally, we get a few minutes with Matt Damon as Watney at the end. I can't wait to see a full trailer, but this is a perfect introduction for now. View below. There's still no trailer as yet for Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi tale "The Martian," but a new video for the film has surfaced online, a mock promotional piece introducing us to the crew of the Ares 3 spacecraft in the movie.
The crew includes Matt Damon as botanist Watney, Michael Pena as pilot Rick Martinez, Jessica Chastain as Commander Melissa Lewis, Sebastian Stan as Dr. Chris Beck, Aksel Hennie as German astronaut Aleks Vogel, and Kate Mara as computer expert Beth Johanssen.
The film itself sees Damon's character stranded on the Martian surface with no way of contacting his team or Nasa to let them know he's alive. Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Donald Glover also star in the film which opens November 25th.

Charlie Sheen lost his battle to get full custody of his twin boys, meaning the arrangement worked out with ex-wife Brooke Mueller last month will stand. Surprisingly, judge Hank Goldberg ruled against Sheen's claim because of his substance abuse and that he bragged about it, not because he wanted to take 2-year-old Bob and Max on his "Violent Torpedo of Truth" tour.
Speaking of the tour, Sheen jetted to D.C. after his L.A. court appearance and bombed again, with the drunk crowd catcalling Charlie and filing out early, though one couple that stuck it out was White House party crashers Michaele and Tareq Salahi.

Hollywoodnews.com: For all of those eager to become the next viral celebrity, be warned that popularity comes with a nasty price.
Just ask 13-year-old Rebecca Black, who reportedly received two death threats that were serious enough to warrant a police investigation.
According to Anaheim Police spokesman Rick Martinez, “the threats were related to getting the [singer’s song ‘Friday’] off the internet or they were going to kill her,” Rolling Stone reported.
Martinez said Black might not have been in direct danger, but the threats – which were made through the singer’s production and management companies – needed to be investigated.

I want to un-hear Rebecca Black's song "Friday" as much as the next person, but not enough to kill anyone over it. Two trolls were apparently so fed up with Rebecca Black, they took it upon themselves to ask the singer to take the music off of the Internet or they would kill her. An Anaheim Police spokesman Rick Martinez said, "One of the threats came over the phone and another emailed. Officers are keeping a watchful eye on her during this on-going investigation.” If Black's email is that accessible, I'm actually surprised she's...

According to police spokesman Rick Martinez, the threats came over the phone and through email. Whoever sent the death threats was pissed off by her music video, which garnered more than 110 million views on YouTube.
He was quoted by eonline.com as saying, "In essence, the threats were related to getting the music off the Internet or they were going to kill her. We can't validate how serious they are, but we do it take seriously."

Police are investigating the two death threats against Internet sensation Rebecca Black. Anaheim Police spokesman Rick Martinez explained as quoted by Reuters, "In essence the threats were related to getting the music off the Internet or they were going to kill her. We can't validate how serious they are, but we do take it seriously."
Rick detailed that the 13-year-old, whose debut single "Friday" became a YouTube hit, received the threats in March. The spokesperson, who assured that the officers are "keeping an extra eye out" for the aspiring singer, added that one of the nasty messages was made by phone through her manager, while the other emailed to her Los Angeles-based production company.
While the police haven't identified the person(s) responsible, Rick promised, "We're going to investigate and determine, number one, the source of the comments and then based on the investigation determine what intent was and where we go from here.

First there was Body of Proof and now it is time to try the Chaos pilot. I have to say that I had only read very very little about this show and had seen no promos or sneak peeks or anything at all for that matter, nor had I known much about any of the actors. But even so, I said “hey, let’s give it a try”. And I thought “Chaos”… well this sounds like serious stuff and Eric Close is playing in it, it surely has to do with…well, serious stuff. But no, it most surely does not. Unless you’re counting how seriously faced these guys are playing their roles. Frankly, I’m surprised they get through filming the scenes; I laughed so well during this episode! I haven’t had this kind of a breakthrough since Raising Hope and I’m so glad I tried it on,...

What do you get when you cross 'Alias'-like action with the bumbling ineptitude of 'Get Smart''s Agent 86? Well it's the opposite of Control -- CBS is calling it 'Chaos' (premieres Fri., Apr. 1, 8Pm Et on CBS).
Following agents of the CIA's Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services (Chaos), this new comedic drama gives a humorous spin to the high-risk missions these CIA C-listers are assigned to under the most ridiculous of circumstances.
The show's cast includes 'Six Feet Under' alum Freddy Rodriguez as wide-eyed new recruit Rick Martinez; Eric Close as Michael Dorset, the leader of the team; sneaky Scotsman Billy Collins, played by James Murray; and Tim Blake Nelson as Casey Malick, an unassuming master of martial arts.

Chicago – The main problem with reviewing television is that we’re often sent only the premiere and asked to judge a show overall. And yet we’d all agree that programs regularly improve or slide in quality after week one. By its third month, a show can look and feel completely different than its premiere, and so it can be hard to recommend something, knowing that by the time you get to watch it, you might be watching something much worse. To that end, the premiere of “Chaos,” the new spy comedy debuting on CBS tonight, April 1st, 2011, isn’t bad but I have serious doubts about what the show will be like on a weekly basis.
TV Rating: 3.5/5.0
With echoes of “Get Smart” and FX’s brilliant “Archer,” “Chaos” sometimes feels like a workplace comedy crossed with a spy show — like “The Office” meets “The Unit.” The program centers...

I dig Eric Close, ever since he starred in the ill-fated “Now and Again”, which was a fantastic show that never really had a chance. His Western “The Magnificent Seven” was good, too, but it was also canceled before its time. I didn’t really follow him over to “Without a Trace”, his most successful regular work on TV as of now, mostly because by-the-numbers crime procedurals that give you the same stuff week after week is dull and boring and tedious. His latest is the action/comedy “Chaos”, which looks like it’s going to be a fun show. Catch it when it makes its premiere later tonight on CBS. Chaos is a comedic drama about a group of rogue CIA spies in the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services (Chaos), who combat threats to national security amidst bureaucratic gridlock, rampant incompetence and political infighting. The team tackles high risk foreign intelligence missions using manipulation,...

Networks sometimes send signals about what they think of a certain show by the way they schedule it. And to our ears, debuting a show on Friday nights with less than two months left in the season isn't the strongest vote of confidence.
Such is the lot of "Chaos," a show about a roguish (if not entirely rogue) team of CIA operatives that premieres on CBS at 8 p.m. Et Friday (April 1). It's a not always comfortable mix of action, drama and comedy, and if it's far from the worst new series to hit the airwaves this season, it's also not at the top of the list. It's a little too middle of the road for its own good.

Somewhere between NBC's Chuck and USA's Covert Affairs is Chaos, the new spy dramedy from CBS premiering tonight at 8pm. It's not what you'd expect from the network full of crime procedurals, and that refreshing change of pace is what makes it a delightful surprise.
Chaos centers on a new CIA recruit named Rick Martinez (Six Feet Under's Freddy Rodriguez), a lovable but somewhat clueless guy who gets sucked into a group of outside-the-box agents in Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services.

Exclusive: Kurtwood Smith will co-star on CBS' midseason drama series Chaos. He is set for the regular role of Director Higgins, which was played in the pilot by Stephen Rea. As part of CBS' midseason series order to the 20th Century Fox TV-produced project in July, the two sides decided to recast the part. Chaos centers on rookie CIA Operative Rick Martinez (Freddy Rodriguez) who is forced to spy on his dangerously unpredictable new team members in the Ods (Office of Disruptive Services), facing the possibility that they'll betray and abandon him in hostile territory. Smith's Director Higgins is the political, manipulative but calm middle-management director in the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services who tricks Martinez into becoming a mole for him in the Ods team. The series is yet to begin production on its 13-episode order as it is waiting for star Freddy Rodriguez to finish a movie. Smith...

Freddy Rodriguez who headlines CBS' midseason drama series Chaos, has signed with UTA for representation. This marks the actor's return to UTA after being repped by Icm for the past 3 years. On Tom Spezialy/Brett Ratner's Chaos, Rodriguez plays agent Rick Martinez, the leader of a group of rogue CIA operatives. The project received a midseason series order by CBS last month after negotiations between the network and 20th TV had broken off and the options on the actors had expired. UTA also recently signed Chaos co-star James Murray. Rodriguez's previous TV credits include a role on Six Feet Under, which earned him an Emmy nomination, and a stint on Ugly Betty. His feature credits include Lady in the Water, Poseidon and Grindhouse. Rodriguez will continue to be repped by Kass and Stokes Management and attorney Steve Warren.

On the heels of Chaos landing a midseason series order at CBS, one of the show’s co-stars, British actor James Murray, has signed with UTA where he will be represented by Theresa Peters. Murray, best known in the U.S. for his roles on ITV’s Primeval and Comedy Central's Krod Mandoon, had been without U.S. agency representation. He will continue to be managed by Generate and also repped by U.K.'s United Agents. Murray was pursued by multiple Hollywood agencies after getting buzz for his role in the pilot for Chaos, about a group of rogue CIA operatives led by Rick Martinez (Freddy Rodriguez) combating bureaucratic gridlock, rampant incompetence, and political infighting. The decades-old taboo that drama series with minority leads cannot work finally might be broken.
Halfway through the castings of broadcast drama pilots this season, the top-billed actors on four pilots are non-Caucasian.
What's more, the four projects are among the highest-profile drama pilots this year.
The spy couple at the center of J.J. Abrams' "Undercovers" for NBC is played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Boris Kodjoe. "Undercovers," co-written by Abrams, marks his first pilot directing effort since "Lost" six years ago.
Forest Whitaker is the lead on CBS' "Criminal Minds" spinoff; Laz Alonso tops the Fox action-drama "Breakout Kings," directed and exec produced by Gavin Hood; and Freddy Rodriguez headlines CBS' CIA drama "Chaos," directed and executive produced by Brett Ratner.
Last year's crop of broadcast pilots included only one fronted by a minority actor, the LL Cool J starrer "NCIS: Los Angeles." The season before that, there were no pilots led by minorities.
