Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble announces Anna Sokolow and the Reimagined Roots of Anti-Fascist Dance, which was performed on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 7 pm at the Library of Congress Thomas Jefferson Building, Coolidge Auditorium, is now available for streaming on demand. To watch the performance, visit https://www.loc.gov/item/webcast-11277/.
When the Library of Congress Music Division made the extraordinary discovery of handwritten scores composed by Alex North for two of Anna Sokolow’s dances, Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble Artistic Director Samantha Géracht reimagined the dances using archival evidence and the music. “Slaughter of the Innocents” is Sokolow’s 1937 lament for Basque women suffering under Nazi aerial bombing. “Ballad in a Popular Style” is a wistful lyrical excursion into jazz, first performed in 1936. Both will be performed by members of the Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble to the original music, for the first time in 80 years, showing that the creative collaboration...

Since then, he's been on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, leading him to present his first-ever podcast series, Who We Are Now. French farmers, who are currently blockading Paris with their tractors to protest the economic crisis facing the country’s agricultural sector, have found an unlikely hero in Jeremy Clarkson.
The controversial TV presenter has won praise from the protestors for his Amazon Prime Video Series Clarkson’s Farm, following his attempts to run his Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds, and public backing of British farming.
“We need one of our French celebrities to do the same thing as Jeremy Clarkson in Amazon Prime Series Clarkson’s Farm,” protesting French farmer Robi Leduc told a reporter from the UK’s The Telegraph newspaper.
French farmers say their sector is on the brink of collapse as incomes fall due to rising environmental regulations, red tape and competition from cheaper imports, all issues Clarkson has talked about in his show in relation to British farming.

When the news came out in December that “The Grand Tour” — Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond’s post-“Top Gear” automotive series — would be coming to an end, fans were left wondering why.
But, in a new interview with The Times, Clarkson has delivered a cheeky yet straightforward answer: it’s because he’s “unfit and fat and old.”
Clarkson told The Times that the show “is immensely physical, and when you’re unfit and fat and old, which I am…” He also feels the trio has done just about “everything you can do with a car.”
“I’ve driven cars higher than anyone else and further north than anyone else,” Clarkson said. “We’ve done everything you can do with a car. When we had meetings about what to do next, people just threw their arms in the air.”
There are still two more specials of “The Grand Tour,...

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed why it’s the end of the road for The Grand Tour. Clarkson said he and co-hosts, James May and Richard Hammond, decided to quit the Amazon Prime Video show after running out of steam.
In an interview with The Times of London, Clarkson said it was becoming increasingly difficult to conjure up outlandish adventures for the show and that the presenters were all showing their age.
Clarkson, who is 63, said: “I’ve driven cars higher than anyone else and further north than anyone else. We’ve done everything you can do with a car. When we had meetings about what to do next, people just threw their arms in the air.”

James May has left the car door open for a reunion with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond after they park their Prime Video series The Grand Tour for a final time.
During BBC Radio 4’s Today program, which he was guest editing this morning, he responded to a question about the future of the series by saying: “Well, we’ve filmed the last one for now. I suppose that makes me technically unemployed — I can hear the cheers rolling around the country.
“We’ve got two in the bag, though, so there’s one coming out very soon. I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say here. Then [there is] another one coming out a bit after that.”
In November, Clarkson told The Times newspaper that the trio were “done” after 34 years of car review programs. However, Prime Video is yet to officially cancel The Grand Tour, which is among its highest-rating original series.

Amazon Prime Video’s automotive series “The Grand Tour” is not moving forward at the streamer — at least with its current hosts, former “Top Gear” trio Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.
Sources tell Variety that Clarkson, May and Hammond have just returned from filming the show’s final special in Zimbabwe, which will launch at a later date next year and conclude the fifth season. A special set in Mauritania will launch before that, in February. Though options to continue the series with different hosts are being explored, it has not yet been greenlit. The “Grand Tour” news follows the announcement earlier this week that Clarkson’s other show on Amazon Prime Video, “Clarkson’s Farm,” is getting a fourth season.
Clarkson said in a statement to The Times on Thursday, “We’re done. I have reviewed cars on TV since 1989. That’s 34 years. And after next year, I...

After the BBC revealed that “Top Gear” won’t be returning “for the foreseeable future,” former presenter James May has said that the series needs “a bit of a rethink.”
In an interview on the BBC’s “Today” podcast, May — who hosted “Top Gear” alongside Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond for over a decade — said that the show must be revamped whenever it does return.
“My honest view is — I can say this now — it does need a bit of a rethink,” May told the BBC. “It’s time for a new format and a new approach to the subject because the subject has not been this interesting, I suspect, since the car has been invented.”

Former Top Gear host James May has criticized the “car show-erati” who have called for him and his fellow former co-presenters to be reinstated on the hit motoring show since Andrew Flintoff’s crash.
Speaking to the BBC, May said he has been annoyed by “the people who watch car shows and were saying, ‘Well now they’ve done that wrong you can come back in and rescue [Top Gear].“
May referred to these “partisan” Top Gear fans as the “car show-erati.”
“I was just thinking, ‘The bloke has hurt himself very badly in a life-changing way and you could perhaps not use it as an opportunity to be partisan’,” said May of these fans. “You could perhaps say, ‘Rotten bit of luck, get well soon’.”

Hit automotive series “Top Gear” is being put in park “for the foreseeable future,” the BBC revealed on Tuesday.
The news comes after presenter Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff was injured in an on-set accident in December, resulting in a pause in production on the show’s 34th season. Flintoff had been a presenter on the series since 2019, alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.

Top Gear presenter Freddie Flintoff voiced his concerns about safety during filming on the same day as he was injured in a 130mph crash, The Sun newspaper reports.
Former England cricketer Flintoff was badly injured in December 2022 when his open-topped Morgan Super 3 car crashed while filming a segment for the longrunning BBC car show.
The Sun quotes an insider reporting:
“Freddie voiced his worries about the safety of the stunt on set on the day of the accident.
“He questioned whether or not it was Ok, given the vehicle and conditions on the track.
“He was apprehensive before he got behind the wheel and production staff at the track were aware of this.”
Filming was suspended on the 34th series of the show following the accident, and Flintoff has only recently been seen in public, with his facial injuries still visible. He also broke several ribs.

The Mail on Sunday newspaper reports that Top Gear, in all likelihood, will not return to screens following a near-fatal crash involving one of its star presenters, Freddie Flintoff. Following the show being put “on hold” in March, the paper claims that the hit show’s production team has been dismantled.
This follows the departure of two key senior creatives from the team – editorial director Clare Pizey and development producer Chris Payne.
The newspaper reports that BBC sources have confirmed there are no plans to develop a fresh series, and plans to broadcast the most recent series 34 have been shelved.

Could I, a normal bloke, run a crystal meth empire? Could I survive on a mysterious, sinister Pacific island? Could I spend years in combat training so I might kill the leader of a zombie army? So much of great TV is about taking ordinary people and exposing them to the crucible of the extraordinary. It permits the audience to analyse and hypothesise about their own suitability for the task – and no show of recent years has done this with greater panache than Clarkson’s Farm. Could you artificially inseminate a heifer?
“There have been a few changes,” Jeremy Clarkson, the proprietor of the Diddly Squat Farm announces in the opening monologue to this, the second series of his self-titled Amazon Prime show. The “ruinously expensive” sheep are gone, the durum wheat is flourishing, and the farm shop has created so much traffic that locals apparently can’t get to their Covid vaccinations.

The “ruinously expensive” sheep are gone, the durum wheat is flourishing, and the farm shop has created so much traffic that locals apparently can’t get to their Covid vaccinations.

Jeremy Clarkson has claimed that James May has been influenced by “lefties” as he criticised his The Grand Tour co-host’s support of 20mph speed limits.
Last week, May voiced his support for proposed plans to make 20mph the default speed on new or redesigned urban streets, as well as in residential areas.
Appearing on the Today programme on Radio 4, May said that he “hates to say I’m very right-on”, adding that he “would agree that a blanket 20mph would probably be a little bit knuckle-headed, but in a lot of urban places, city centre, towns and villages, actually 20mph makes perfect sense”.
Writing in his column in The Sun, Clarkson hit out at the comments from “m’colleague” May, suggesting that the former Top Gear host was now backing “leftie” plans.
“Of course, you’re thinking that James May would say that,” Clarkson wrote. “He’s known as...

Jeremy Clarkson has admitted that major traffic caused by visitors to his shop at the Diddly Squat Farm prevented some people from getting to the local health centre for their Covid vaccinations.
The controversial former Top Gear presenter discussed the issue in Amazon Prime’s Clarkson’s Farm, a series that follows his attempts to run the farm in the Cotswolds.
In a preview of the first episode of the new series, seen by The Independent, Clarkson says the farm shop “turned out to be rather more popular than we’d expected”.
Speaking over footage of large queues, a rammed car park and road traffic, he continues: “Last week, the main road jammed up for three hours. People couldn’t get to be vaccinated at the health centre, and they couldn’t get a crew for the fire station.”
He adds: “I just didn’t think it through. I didn’t...

Exclusive: James May will be back for a third helping of his Amazon Our Man In… travel show.
The Grand Tour presenter will head to India for another round of irreverent adventures after journeying to Japan and Italy in Season 1 and 2 respectively.
The Amazon Prime Video original is produced by Plum Pictures, the British production outfit. Plum made James May: Oh Cook! for Amazon and is preparing a Serena Williams access series for the streamer.
News of the renewal comes days after May distanced himself from comments his friend and co-host Jeremy Clarkson made about Meghan Markle in a column for The Sun, the British tabloid newspaper.
Clarkson said he “hates” the Duchess of Sussex and she should be made to “parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain,” a callback to a Game of Thrones scene. He has since apologized.

Ashton Kutcher has spoken about the rape allegations made against his former co-star Danny Masterson.
Kutcher’s That ‘70s Show and The Ranch castmate Masterson appeared in court in November, charged with allegedly raping three women, including a former girlfriend, at his home between 2001 and 2003.
Back in December, the case ended in mistrial after the jury were deadlocked and unable to reach a verdict. In January, prosecutors said that they would retry Masterson on all three counts, with the new trial scheduled for March.
In an interview with Esquire, Kutcher said Masterson had been the one to mentor and keep in line the young cast on That ‘70s Show, making the legal case particularly hard for him to watch.
Explaining that he was still in touch with Masterson and regularly speaks to his brother, Kutcher said that he worried about the impact of the case on his eight-year-old daughter.

Marc Maron has condemned the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences after it announced it would be investigating Andrea Riseborough’s grassroots Oscar campaign, which led to her Best Actress nomination for To Leslie.
Maron, 59, who stars as motel owner Sweeney in the indie film alongside Riseborough’s spiralling single mother, blasted the Academy on the latest episode of his Wtf podcast, which was released on Monday (30 January).
“Apparently, the Academy of Motion Picture Sciences or whatever the f*** it is has decided to investigate Andrea Riseborough’s grassroots campaign to get her the Oscar nomination,” he said.

Her children, Zak and Emily Hudson, said in a statement to the Associated Press that the passing of their “kind, hilarious mother” has brought the family “insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed”.
“Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege. She was one of a kind, beautiful, generous and possessed a brilliant sense of humor and a glittering spirit that everyone loved,” according to the statement.
Williams, who starred opposite Penny Marshall’s Laverne on the iconic eight-season sitcom, also starred in classics American Graffiti and the Best Picture-nominated 1974 thriller The Conversation.

The winner of an intense online bidding war over an original Mr Blobby costume has reportedly backed out of their £62,000 purchase – less than an hour after placing the victorious bid.
The outfit was initially created in the Nineties for an overseas version of Noel’s House Party, the Saturday night programme that first propelled the pink-and-yellow-clad mischief merchant into the nation’s hearts and nightmares.
But when the show was cancelled, the costume went unclaimed by the production team, and it has languished in the home of a former BBC employee ever since.
That changed earlier this month when a house move prompted the owner to put the costume up for auction on eBay – listing it for £39.
However, the costume – which currently requires both of its arms to be reattached and its signature bow tie “secured” – soon racked up 178 bids, ultimately soaring more than 158,800 per cent upon the original listing price.

James May has suggested that Jeremy Clarkson’s infamous column about Meghan Markle was “a little too creepy”.
Back in December, Clarkson faced widespread condemnation after The Sun published an article in which he fantasised about the duchess of Sussex being paraded through the streets naked and pelted with excrement.
In the column, published on 16 December, the 62-year-old ex-Top Gear host wrote that he hated the duchess on a “cellular level”.
Reports subsequently claimed that Amazon was looking to “cut ties” with Clarkson, and would not be commissioning any further projects from him beyond those which had already been agreed upon.
On Monday (30 January), May was interviewed on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
“I don’t think The Grand Tour is under [threat],” May said.
“To be brutally honest I didn’t read the thing [Clarkson’s column] because I was away – is that a terrible thing to say?” he continued.

Amazon Prime Video’s “The Grand Tour” presenter James May has described his co-host Jeremy Clarkson’s comments about Meghan Markle as “too creepy.”
In December 2022, Clarkson’s column in U.K. tabloid The Sun suggested Markle be made to “parade naked” through Britain while people “throw lumps of excrement at her.” Clarkson has since apologized.
On Monday, May appeared on on the BBC Radio 4 “Today” program. Host Martha Kearney asked May what he thought about Clarkson’s article in The Sun and if “The Grand Tour” was under threat.
May replied: “I don’t think ‘The Grand Tour’ is under [threat].”
“To be brutally honest I didn’t read the thing [Clarkson’s column] because I was away – is that a terrible thing to say?,” May added.
Kearney then proceeded to read excerpts from Clarkson’s column to May who said: “He said something like all people my age think the same way.

Outrage was more than justified. People had a right to be appalled when The Sun published Jeremy Clarkson’s now-infamous newspaper column about Meghan Markle on 16 December. The former Top Gear presenter was shockingly, almost inexplicably vitriolic in his words, writing that he hated the Duchess of Sussex “on a cellular level” and dreamed of her being “made to parade naked through the streets” while crowds pelted her with excrement. Even within a right-wing media climate in which Meghan is routinely treated as a despised bogeyman – a reputation rooted plainly in racism – Clarkson’s words were far beyond the pale. We should all be revolted. But no one had a right to be surprised.
Yesterday Clarkson came out with a tail-between-his-legs letter of contrition, describing his remarks as “disgraceful” and stating that he was “profoundly sorry”. He claimed to have emailed Prince Harry and Meghan on Christmas Day, apologising for...

Dish, the hit podcast hosted by Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, will be getting extra social for the festive season as the presenting duo escape the studio and cosy up at Grimmy’s own home, where some special guests have been invited round for Christmas food, drink and laughs.
In a series of episodes, Hugh Bonneville, Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond, and Annie Mac will all settle down for a fireside chat, while Michelin star chef Angela Hartnett cooks and Grimshaw serves up the drinks. The hosts’ warm reception and sense of humour make Dish the most hospitable and social show on the planet.
Dish takes a pioneering approach to turning podcasts into a social event: it’s recorded like a podcast, shot for Instagram and edited for TikTok. As a result, it’s had 20 weeks at number one on Apple’s food podcast chart and is regularly in the top 20 Apple shows.

A contestant on the latest instalment of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? accidentally revealed a little-known behind-the-scenes secret.
Last weekend’s episode of the hit ITV quiz show featured a contestant called Maria King.
The episode finished partway through Maria’s run of questions, with the end being signalled by a loud sound effect.
As Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? viewers no doubt are aware, the show’s format allows Maria to resume her quiz at the beginning of the next episode.
When the klaxon sounded, host Jeremy Clarkson asked the contestant: “Do you know what that means?”
To which Maria unexpectedly replied: “I’ll have to go and get changed.”
She then hurriedly added: “I’m not supposed to say that, am I?”
Rather than film each episode separately, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in fact shoots multiple episodes at once.

Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about the “alarming” car accident that occurred while filming the latest episode of The Grand Tour.
It was reported earlier this year that James May, who stars in the Prime Video motoring series alongside Clarkson and Richard Hammond, had been “rushed to hospital” after crashing his car in Norway.
The trio were in the country to film segments for their latest one-off special, The Ground Tour: A Scandi Flick.
In an essay for The Sunday Times, Clarkson discussed the crash in detail.
“In the latest episode of The Grand Tour there’s a big and alarming crash,” he wrote.
“There’s always a big and alarming crash in The Grand Tour of course, but this one was different because the person who was gingerly lifted from the wreckage by paramedics and carefully driven to hospital in the back of an ambulance was not Richard Hammond.

Top Gear presenters Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris, and Paddy McGuinness are planning a big American road trip after being forced to film Season 30 of the motoring show entirely in the UK amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Ambitious overseas trips have become Top Gear’s signature over the years, but the pandemic has changed all of that, and BBC Studios producers have had to be creative about finding locations closer to home. It’s a tricky balance between getting the show made and keeping its epic feel for BBC One and BBC America.
Over a truncated four-episode season, the hosts — who have been credited with rejuvenating Top Gear following Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May’s exit six years ago — head to the Scottish highlands (coincidentally the location for Amazon’s next Grand Tour special), the Lake District, Cotswolds, and Wiltshire’s Raf Lyneham.

Exclusive: DriveTribe, the motoring social network founded by The Grand Tour team and with investment from Elisabeth Murdoch and Disney, has warned that it could run out of cash unless it can mount a sustained recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
DriveTribe was launched by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May, and Andy Wilman in November 2016 as an online community for car fanatics, with investment from 21st Century Fox (now owned by Disney) and early Facebook backer Jim Breyer. Murdoch invested £2.5M ($3.3M) in the business last year.
In its annual report, DriveTribe said that in a worst-case scenario, in which advertising revenue continues to be ravaged by Covid-19, its cash reserves of £2.2M will not be sufficient “to continue trading for a period significantly longer” than 12 months. The company added that it has no agreement in place with shareholders for additional funding, despite informal indications that more cash could be made available.

Exclusive: The Grand Tour showrunner Andy Wilman has revealed how Amazon’s motoring show stayed on the road during the coronavirus pandemic — despite having to cancel a major shoot in Russia and falling ill with the disease himself.
The executive producer was speaking to Deadline as Amazon Prime gears up to launch the next Grand Tour special, A Massive Hunt, which was filmed in Madagascar last year, but was edited at the height of the Covid-19 outbreak, during which Wilman was laid low for 10 days after contracting the illness.
He delivered the episode to Amazon in early summer and it will premiere on December 18, featuring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May on some of the most treacherous roads they have ever encountered, in cars that had some heavy-duty modifications. Hammond, for example, replaced the wheels on his Ford Focus Rs with tank tracks.
But, as always with Wilman and co,...

December’s really what we’re hanging on for, Amazon Prime Video-wise. That’s when the new 10-episode season of The Expanse lands. November though, does have a couple of likely streaming candidates in the form of dark comedy Wayne, which, with its teen-road-trip and nihilist violence vibe, sounds like just the thing for a fan of Channel 4’s excellent The End of the F***ing World. There’s also the fifth and final season of Syfy’s The Magicians, plus new Alan Ball film Uncle Frank, starring Paul Bettany, which had a warm reception at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
As the sneak-release of Borat Subsequent Moviefilm shows, Amazon Prime Video is capable of surprising us. In addition to the confirmed new November releases below, there will be more on their way which we’ll add as and when they arrive.
