Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize winning play Angels in America has had a long life. From its debut in 1991 in San Francisco, to the Emmy award winning HBO mini-series adaptation, and even as an opera that was first performed in Paris, France, Angels in America is a timeless story that keeps resonating with audiences. In fact, it’s more relevant than ever.
Following a group of New Yorkers in the mid-1980s, in the midst of the AIDs crisis and a conservative Reagan administration, Angels in America touches on themes of life, death, love, sex, heaven, and hell. The National Theatre Live production stars Andrew Garfield as Prior Walter, and he’s joined by Nathan Lane, James McArdle, Denise Gough, and Russell Tovey. It is directed by Tony award winner Marianne Elliott, who also helmed stage productions of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and War Horse.
Angels in America is a play in two parts, and on July 20th, 2017, you can watch a live broadcast of Part One: Millennium Approaches at select Cineplex theatres. Part Two: Perestroika will be broadcast on July 27th, 2017. Encore dates will follow in August.

Chris here, reminding you about an important revival coming across the pond. Tony Kushner's beloved Angels in America is getting a new production in London this spring, with probable Hacksaw Ridge Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield. But wait - it's also coming to cinemas!
The National Theatre production will be broadcast this summer with Part 1 on July 20 and Part 2 on July 21. Garfield will play Prior Walter, but he's not the only star power in the production. Joining him will be Russell Tovey and Nathan Lane as Joe Pitt and Roy Cohn, respectively. All of this casting feels slightly off for my Angels-obsessive mind, but that's not enough to diminish my excitement! Here's a first look at the cast, which also includes James McArdle and Denise Gough:
The National Theatre has had several productions shown in cinemas, such as War Horse and Helen Mirren in The Audience. Have you seen...

Film follows Grammy-nominated British rock band Wolf Alice on tour.
Michael Winterbottom’s On The Road will receive its world premiere at the upcoming BFI London Film Festival.
The film will be presented within the festival’s Sonic strand on Oct 9 at the BFI Southbank and follows Grammy-nominated British rock band Wolf Alice, from North London, on tour.
Winterbottom joined the band on the road earlier this year, capturing 16 different gigs and daily life backstage. The film records the tour from the point of view of a new member of their crew and stars rising British actors Leah Harvey and James McArdle.
“The starting point for the film was a long time ago in a bar in New York when we met up with a band called Ash. They told us all about their life on the road - an endless string of festivals and gigs. It sounded romantic and terrible at the same time. I was curious...

Happy Friday!
Not the biggest week for Star Wars this January, but what are you going to do? It’s actually funny that it feels like not-a-big-news week when we got a ton of Original Trilogy goodness since we last spoke. Star Wars: Rebels brought Lando back into the fold and Marvel brought us Star Wars #1 on Wednesday: the biggest selling comic of the decade, already.
Let’s talk about Star Wars #1 for a minute, just because I’m excited that potentially 1 million of you read the issue along with me this week. I was very pleased with the direction this is all going in.
First off, it’s great to see Luke between blowing up the Death Star and the Wampa cave. The beginning of Empire Strikes Back starts off great for a serial, but as a continuation of the character arcs that eventually lead to Death Star...

Like the rest of those listed above, his role will more than likely be a very small one, so it could be that there will be a number of Padawans in the movie! What Luke Skywalker's involvement will be remains to be seen, but...
