John Hartman, drummer for the Doobie Brothers during the band’s hit-making 1970s heyday, has died, the band announced. He was 72.
No cause of death was given.
“Today we are thinking of John Hartman, or Little John to us,” the band wrote on Instagram and Twitter. “John was a wild spirit, great drummer, and showman during his time in the Doobies. He was also a close friend for many years and an intricate part of the band personality! We send our condolences to all his loved ones at this difficult time. Rest In Peace John.”
Formed in San Jose, California, in 1970, the Doobie Brothers began with the meeting of Hartman and singer-guitarist-songwriter Tom Johnston. Soon joined by singer-guitarist-songwriter Patrick Simmons and bassist Dave Shogren. The group would welcome an ever-shifting aggregation of members over the decades – the Doobies still tour today – most notably singer-keyboardist Michael McDonald in 1975.

Netflix released the new original film “Spiderhead” last week, but in addition to debuting a new thriller starring Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller, the streamer also unveiled a truly killer soundtrack of yacht rock staples – and you can see the full “Spiderhead” soundtrack list below.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski (“Top Gun: Maverick”) and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (“Deadpool”), “Spiderhead” is based on a dystopian short story by George Saunders and takes place entirely at a facility called – you guessed it – Spiderhead. Run by Chris Hemsworth’s Steve Abnesti, this facility is host to prisoners serving long sentences who have agreed to take part in an experimental drug trial in exchange for more freedoms.
But as Teller’s prisoner character Jeff soon learns, there may be more than meets the eye when it comes to the true nature behind these experimental drug trials.

It’s no easy feat to top best dressed lists as often as Nicole Kidman does (it’s no wonder she was crowned Most Stylish Star of 2017 by PeopleStyle). American Idol has a lot in common with the country it's named after — a swift rise, fueled by lofty populist ideals and naked aggression, world conquest, such giddy heights, then the tragic skid into despair and and it's all somehow Fox's fault. The end of the Idol empire should have been a much bigger deal. It should have been an event. But instead, last night's farewell episode just kind of dribbled away, like the final season overall. Sheeran did most of the talking, admitting he still stutters occasionally and noting the impediment arose after doctors forgot to apply an anesthetic while removing a birthmark around his eye. On top of that, Sheeran said he used to wear massive National Health Service-issued eyeglasses and has no eardrum in one ear.

George Lucas executive produces the animated delight Twice Upon a Time from directors John Korty and Charles Swenson. In its once-upon-a-time world, our heroes are Ralph, the all-purpose animal, and his constant companion, Mumford, who only talks in sound effects. Their mission is nothing short of saving the cosmos from the dastardly plot of Synonamess Botch, who wants to unleash a barrage of nightmare bombs to ensure nonstop bad dreams. They cross paths with a colorful army of characters, including their Fgm (a fairy godmother from the Bronx), the musclebound – and pea-brained – Rod Rescueman and Scuzzbopper, Botch’s scheming court jester and screamwriter. The off-the-wall characters and story are portrayed with an innovative animation technique, lumage, which gives depth, texture and translucent color to every scene.

Tyanna Jones sang “Proud Mary” and “Why Do Fools Fall In Love.” Clark Beckham sang “Moon River” and “Superstition.” Jax sang “Beat It” and “Piece of My Heart.” Nick Fradiani performed “Only the Good Die Young” and “American Girl.” Quentin Alexander sang “Are You Gonna Go My Way” and “The Sound of Silence.” Joey Cook sang “Somebody to Love” and “My Funny Valentine.” Rayvon Owen belted out “Always On My Mind” and “The Doobie Brothers.” At this point, it had been revealed that everyone was safe except for poor Joey Cook and Rayvon Owen. Previously… Watch Justin Timberlake Sing "Pusher Love Girl," Address The Kanye West Beef, Bring "SexyBack" Barbershop Quartet Style, Debut "Let The Groove Get In" and Spoof Michael McDonald… with Michael McDonald
Don't miss out on those manwiches—check out both Jt appearances below.
Timberweek concludes on Late Night tonight, so be sure to tune in and… if you haven't already… click to follow the Justin Timberlake Ology for all the latest news,...

Looking a bit like a cat burglar, Justin Timberlake stopped at Bet's "106 & Park" in New York City on Thursday (March 14).
The "Suit & Tie" singer was clad in all-black ensemble as he talked up his new album The 20/20 Experience with host Bow Wow.
Kicking promotion in high gear, all this week the 32-year-old musician has appeared on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon."
Showing his sense of humor with the affable host, Jt starred in a number of skits from a Michael McDonald spoof, to a mannequin hands soap opera with Steve Carell. Of course, he also performed songs off of his new record.

Justin Timberlake Week on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon rolled on last night with the first-ever live performance of The 20/20 Experience jam "Let The Groove Get In" (featuring The Roots and Timberlake's own The Tennessee Kids) and, as you might have heard by now, a rousing, very Michael McDonald-esque rendition of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" with two other Michael McDonalds: host Jimmy Fallon and, um, the Michael McDonald.
Previously… Watch Justin Timberlake Do "Pusher Love Girl," Address His Kanye West Beef, Bring "SexyBack" Barbershop Quartet Style and perform "Mirrors."
I'll let you decide which performance was more thrilling below.

Since Mick Jagger's last turn hosting Saturday Night Live (in 1978, when the Rolling Stones hosted and musical-guested in their first appearance), the show has turned into a venerated cultural institution, and Jagger has turned into a 68-year-old man. So maybe this is the perfect time for these aging icons to cross paths again? Let's wildly speculate one last time about what the episode might contain before SNL takes the summer off.11:29 p.m. Cold Open: On a visit to The View, President Obama (Fred Armisen) manages to keep his cool amid increasingly inappropriate questions from the panel. 1:37 p.m. Monologue: Host Mick Jagger defends his status as an aging rock star by bringing out his older but still relevant peers, including Paul McCartney (Taran Killam), Prince (Armisen), and Michael McDonald (Bill Hader). 11:41 p.m. Commercial Parody: Kim Kardashian (Nasim Pedrad) addresses the recent settlement of a...

Thankfully, not Ryan Seacrest!
I started watching the premiere of Fox’s new singing competition reality show The X Factor with the obvious question: Could this formula work? Would a show starring Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and two other judges evaluating the singing skills of young contestants click with audiences?
That’s some risk factor there, X Factor!
That being said, I’ll admit it: I liked The X Factor. There is some ace emotional manipulation going on in the editing room, but it’s happening alongside some undeniably talented singers who killed it onstage. And, of course, some who didn’t. Because what fun would it be if everyone was good?
Cowell and Company have also raised the stakes: the contestants are vying for a $5 million recording contract. Take that, Idol.
There’s also been one vast improvement from the American Idol blueprint: No Ryan Seacrest!
Ryan Seacrest has always made me uncomfortable,...

It’s hard to argue that Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel, who collectively form Holy Ghost!, weren’t destined to make music together. The duo met at ages 7 and 6, respectively, and their musical kinship grew right along with their burgeoning friendship. Their debut album is a catchy-as-hell throwback to the disco pop sounds of yesteryear, and we have become quite enamored with the new group, who hail from the Big Apple.
Millhiser and Frankel grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and met in elementary school. Their musical endeavors first began in fourth grade during an elective rock band class, where they found themselves playing covers of classics like “Lean on Me.” Their love for the rap of the mid-to-late ‘90s led them to create Automato in their high school years. The group even got a record deal and released an album in 2004. Unfortunately, the rap crew soon dissolved,...

Jack Johnson was joined on stage in Hawaii on Sunday, April 10, by a host of stars at a special celebrity charity concert for Japan.
The singer hit the stage with Willie Nelson, Michael McDonald and Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood for the Kokua For Japan gig, which raised $1.6 million for victims of the Japanese tsunami disaster.
“Kokua for Japan was truly a labour of love to show our care and concern for the people of Japan,” said Coralie Chun Matayoshi of the Hawaiian branch of the American Red Cross. “We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support that Hawaii’s people have shown today. Their compassion will give strength to humanitarian efforts in Japan as we help them recover from this terrible tragedy. We want to thank everyone involved in this event for their wonderful contribution to the cause of humanity.”

"Undeclared" is now airing on IFC, and we thought we'd take this opportunity to revisit the show that further cemented broadcast television's inability to recognize the genius of Judd Apatow. Every week, Matt Singer and Alison Willmore will be offering their thoughts on that night's episode.
Episode 3
"Eric Visits"
Written by Judd Apatow & Rodney Rothman
Directed by John Hamburg
Episode 4
"Jobs, Jobs, Jobs"

Directed by Greg Mottola

"Undeclared" really kicks into gear with "Eric Visits" and "Jobs, Jobs, Jobs," the first of which gets a big boost from guest Jason Segel as Lizzie's so far unseen but much heard boyfriend Eric, and the second of which has a surprisingly serious center. Let's deal with Eric first. As Nick on "Freaks and Geeks," Segel displayed an unparalleled ability to play creepy-charming,...

Hayley Williams and company take us to their old (and current) haunts in Franklin, Tennessee.

Franklin, Tennessee — At their very core, Paramore are Franklin, Tennessee, the tiny satellite of Nashville they call home. And when they welcomed MTV News to the town earlier this week, they made that point abundantly clear.
But during the course of our conversations, it became clear that their roots can actually be traced to nearby Leipers Fork, an (even tinier) town just a few miles to the west. Because out there — west on State Route 96, south on Highway 46 — is where lead singer Hayley Williams first met bassist Jeremy Davis (at the insistence of her mom). And the rest, as they say, is history.
