We're winding down the year-in-review game here at HitFix as 2014 draws to a close. For whatever reason I took a year off of the ballot/superlatives posts, but I'm back with those personal assessments of the best of the year, beginning today with my top picks across the Academy's 24 categories. Check back in tomorrow for a list of winners from this lot, as well as others in a slew of peripheral categories. And of course, feel free to let us know what your Oscar ballot would look like in the comments section below. (Oh, and naturally it goes without saying this post is living in a parallel reality where I'm not confined to a specific branch for nominations and reign supreme over all categories with selections for each.) Queensland digital agency Decoder has appointed Michael McGee as its chief financial officer:
The announcement:
After seven years of watching Decoder grow and prosper our long time friend and consultant Mr Michael McGee has finally agreed to join the team, as Finance Director.
We first met Michael in June 2005 when he came to our office in Prospect Street to set up Jobbag for us. At the time we had around 12 clients, 20 odd suppliers, 6 staff and maybe 25 jobs on the go. Today we rolled into the new financial year with more than 30 regular clients, over a hundred of suppliers, 26 full time and contracted staff, and almost 200 jobs on the go. Throughout that period of growth Michael was always hugely supportive of Decoder’s financial philosophy and saw a bright future for us.
I know you’ll hear him around the office, and he’ll always be first out the door when beer is on tap,...

Thanks to the efforts of the Hero Initiative and comics fans and pros, Robert L. Washington was able to receive a proper funeral.
On Monday, June 25th, a funeral service was held for Robert L. Washington III in the Bronx borough of New York City, with a second service to come in Detroit, Michigan. The service was attended by various comic book creators, classmates, and friends from Robert’s various creative, work, and hobby circles.
Through the actions of Robert’s friends from Milestone Media, Inc. and his classmates from The Roeper School, The Hero Initiative was able to use all of your donations to pay for the service and provide Robert’s mother and two of his sisters with the means to travel from Detroit, Michigan to New York and give him a proper funeral.
