Why do we find murder mysteries so uniquely relaxing? This is one of the age-old questions about human nature, up there with ‘what is consciousness?’ and ‘why do we keep eating mouldy cheese and fish eggs like it’s a good thing?’ Because, despite the grief and blood and mountains of paperwork that a gruesome murder causes, we simply can’t get enough of curling up on the sofa with a mug of tea and a cosy crime drama to keep us blissfully entertained all the way through to bedtime.
This isn’t a new thing, either: while modern series like Death in Paradise and Shakespeare and Hathaway are the current champions of cosy crime TV, back in the eighties and nineties classics like Murder She Wrote and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates taught us how it’s done. So whether you’re after the latest in the cosy crime genre or some more nostalgic viewing,...

Cast your mind back to 1997. Britpop’s bubble had yet to burst, the Spice Girls were the biggest band on the planet, and Aqua’s “Barbie Girl” was inescapable. Then out of nowhere came “Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia, a pop-rock banger so perfect it broke airplay records in the UK and Australia. Trying to sing along, badly, to its slide guitar solo was practically a rite of passage.
“Torn” catapulted 22-year-old Imbruglia to global fame, making her the latest Neighbours alum to pull off the tricky transition from soap to pop. But Imbruglia‘s sound and attitude, harnessed enthrallingly on her debut album Left of the Middle, was much more unexpected than her Ramsay Street predecessors. Her pure, expressive and slightly plaintive voice sounded tremendous on the album’s grungey but catchy pop songs, which were underpinned by Garbage-style guitar loops. Whether Imbruglia was exploring sexual jealousy on “Wishing I...

For Robert Rabiah, Queensland’s Mission Beach is more than just the location where he is filming fish-out-of-water drama Irreverent – it’s also where he began his career.
The actor’s first professional job was appearing alongside Craig McLachlan, Nadine Garner, and Antonio Sabato Jr. in George Miller’s action/adventure mini-series Tribe, which was also based in the coastal town.
Speaking to If, Rabiah said his role in the Matchbox Pictures/NBCUniversal International Studios’ series more than two decades later was a case of his journey coming full circle.
“To come back after all these years feels nostalgic and satisfying,” he said.
In Irreverent, Rabiah plays Farah, a menacing hitman sent by the Chicago Mob to settle the ledger with a criminal mediator (Colin Donnell) who has taken refuge in Far North Queensland and assumed the identity of a church reverend.

Craig McLachlan, the Australian actor known for his long-running stint in soap Neighbours, has been found not guilty of multiple assault allegations.
The actor was accused by four women of misconduct and faced seven charges of indecent assault and six of common assault, all of which he denied. Delivering her verdict on Tuesday (December 15), Magistrate Belinda Wallington praised the accusers for being “brave and honest witnesses” but decreed that their testimony was not enough to prove intent on the part of McLachlan.
The charges stemmed from the actor’s time in the cast of a 2014 production of The Rocky Horror Show, in which he played the lead role Frank-n-Furter. Accusations included that he inappropriately touched a woman on several occasions and kissed another without consent.
McLachlan claimed his behavior was standard practice on stage and said any inappropriate touching was “accidental”.

An old shed on Glebe Island wharf, littered with boat-building machinery and tools, sets the tone for one of the dramatic final scenes of Sbs.s new four-part series, Deep Water, starring Noah Taylor and Yael Stone..
Stone and Taylor play detectives investigating a brutal murder case which appears to be connected to the real-life gay hate crimes that swept through Sydney in the .80s and .90s.
But it was a more recent murder which spurred Blackfella Films. producers Darren Dale and Miranda Dear to get the series moving.
Dear and Dale, coincidentally were both in Potts Point, Sydney, when a particularly violent murder took place.

"It tells the story of a man, Oliver Klein (Grant Cartwright), who awakes with his memories restored into a body that is not his own." Our insider has seen the current cut and reports that it is, in a word, "Great." Since we last reported on the project, Craig McLachlan (The Doctor Blake Mysteries) joined the cast, playing the role of Andrew Majury, CEO of a high profile law firm and a charismatic...

Whatever they’re putting in the water at Disney Feature Animation these days, it seems to be working, with the team successfully launching Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph and a little film called Frozen, plus Big Hero 6, which arrives in the UK in January. But while we don’t yet know what the Mouse House has in store for 2015 (besides a Frozen short), the company’s 2016 film has just been announced, and it’s called Moana. No, it’s not a misspelt title adapted from the 1990 Craig McLachlan cover of ‘Mona’, but will instead tell the story of adventurous teenager Moana, who sets out on a seemingly impossible mission to fulfil her ancestors’ quest. Born in the ancient South Pacific locale of Oceania, the natural navigator is making it her mission to find a fabled island. On her journey, she’ll join forces with her hero, demi-god Maui and must brave...

Wolf Creek and Django Unchained.s John Jarratt has written and plans to star in an Aussie comedy Western.
The title, Passing Winds, epitomises the irreverent approach. That's the name of a cattle property owned by Jarratt.s character. Craig McLachlan has agreed to play the bad guy who aims to gain control of the land which is rich in untapped gold. Steve Bisley will play a bounty hunter.
Jarratt describes the tone as a cross between Blazing Saddles and Crocodile Dundee. He will produce the film with Kris Maric and Craig Kocinski, his partners in production company Ozpix Entertainment.
No director has yet been signed but Jarratt would love to hire someone of the calibre of Mel Gibson, having admired his work in the Richard Donner-directed Maverick opposite Jodie Foster-- although he doubts Mel would be willing to spend six months in Oz working on the film.

Best known for his chilling performance in Wolf Creek, after that movie was completed, Australian actor John Jarratt wrote, produced, and co-starred in Savages Crossing, and now - finally - the film is getting a North American release from Mvd Distribution.

Starring John Jarratt, Craig McLachlan, and Chris Haywood, Savages Crossing follows a group of strangers forced to take shelter in an Outback roadhouse whilst a flood rages around them. James Franco’s performance in 127 Hours was rightly praised, but what of his earlier, less prominent roles? Ti takes a look back…
James Franco has just been nominated for Best Actor for his role as Aron Ralston in 127 Hours, a film for which he is receiving high praise. Not just that, but he's co-hosting the Academy Awards ceremony (alongside Anne Hathaway) and is rapidly becoming Hollywood's leading man of choice, thanks to his comedic and dramatic acting chops.
He will soon be seen in Your Highness ("Handle your shit, Fabius, please.") and Rise Of The Apes, all while finishing a PhD in English Literature at Yale.
Clearly, his star wattage is at its zenith, but it wasn't always so.
Fresh off his success as Harry Osborn in the Spider-man movies, Franco was cast as the lead in a number of films, many of which failed spectacularly at the box office...

Jennifer scored well on Sunday night’s show and impressed the panel with her skating skills. However she still ended up in the bottom three alongside Elen Rivas and Craig McLachlan and only avoided being eliminated by the skin of her teeth.
Speaking about the Hollyoaks’ actress’s survival, tough judge Jason told The Sun that he is ‘thrilled’ she made it through.
He said:
I’m thrilled she got through. She deserved to be in the bottom three after missing a lift, stumbling and letting nerves get the better of her. But she has what is potentially the entire package.

Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner has admitted that he would have liked Craig McLachlan to remain on the ITV show, but claimed that his elimination was all his own fault.
The Australian actor wasn’t as steady on the ice as some of his fellow competitors, because his hectic filming schedule over the last few months didn’t allow for much rehearsal with professional partner Maria Filippov.
Speaking about Craig’s lack of practice, Jason told The Sun:
I’d have loved Craig to stay in longer, but due to work he didn’t get the ice time everybody else did. He’s a top bloke, but if you sign up to these things you should clear your diary. He fell on his own sword.

Craig McLachlan has revealed that he was planning to wear a Neighbours-themed Dancing On Ice costume later in the series. The Australian actor, who was knocked out of the competition last night, said that he was disappointed that he wouldn't be able to pay tribute to his former soap character Henry Ramsay on the ice. "I can tell you that there were plans that they had for future costumes... (laughs) well, they were playing on my history from Henry Ramsay to Frank N. Furter and everything in between," he told Digital Spy. "I'm more disappointed about missing out on the cossies than missing out on learning about ice skating. I can tell you that one costume was sequin-studded, diamanté-encrusted dungarees with a beautifully manufactured retro late-'80s curly mullet. "I'm not lying, I've seen the drawings and they're (more)...

Elen Rivas has claimed that her Vt footage may be to blame for her early Dancing On Ice exit. The model and former Wag was eliminated from the ITV1 reality show last night alongside Australian actor Craig McLachlan. Speaking on This Morning about her failure to attract the public vote, Rivas suggested that the video of her dispute with mentor Christopher Dean over her choreography may not have gone down well with viewers. "I didn't want to go. I wanted to stay there," she said. "I had so much fun. It is just the public vote. It is just what happened. "In my Vt, it was me being funny (more)...

The second bunch of eight celebrities took to the rink last night for their first live skate on Dancing On Ice. Keep reading to find out what Jason Gardiner, Emma Bunton and Robin Cousins thought of their ice debuts:
Craig McLachlan 'Sympathy for the Devil' Jason: (3) "The costume covered a multitude of sins for me tonight mate. From the waist down you move quite gingerly and it looks like you are wearing a soiled nappy. You need to work on your power. You're a big strong lad, a bit of a beefcake, so you need to have more command and dynamism in the lifts. You also need to have that showmanship when you step on the ice."
Robin: (3) "We know you haven't had the time to put in yet and it shows. You have the bravado and great charisma, but from the ankles down and the speed it...
