- Wayne McLaren was born on September 12, 1940 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA. He was an actor, known for Mission: Impossible (1966), The Honkers (1972) and Mod Squad (1968). He died on July 22, 1992 in Newport Beach, California, USA.
- After learning he had lung cancer caused by his pack-and-a-half a day habit, appeared before the Massachusettes state legislature to support a bill that would add taxes to cigarettes, with said revenue used to pay for health education.
- McLaren's brother, Charles, appeared in a series of anti-smoking television commercials. The commercials feature photos of Wayne McLaren from the "Marlboro Man" print advertisements (which Charles decryed as methods to glamorize smoking and make it appealing to young people)interspersed with video images of a whithered Wayne -- tubes from oxygen and other machines attached to him -- lying in a hospital bed shortly before his death. Charles intones, "How independent can you really be?"
- Appeared as the Marlboro Man in several promotional photographs in 1976.
