Searchlight’s Flamin’ Hot trailer delves into the true story behind the popular (but messy) Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Jesse Garcia (Quinceañera) stars as Richard Montañez, the janitor at a Frito-Lay factory who helped turn the industry around by cooking up a spicy version of the cheesy snack food.
“My journey is the journey of billions of people,” said the real Richard Montañez. “Being Mexican, being born in a labor camp, I’ve been fighting my whole life. I don’t know what it’s like not to fight.”
Director Eva Longoria calls Montañez the godfather of Hispanic marketing.
“That was his gift: seeing that nobody was paying attention to the Hispanic consumer. His gift wasn’t making a recipe in a chemical lab. His genius and talent and where he broke through was saying, ‘You guys, there’s a huge segment of the population in the United States that nobody is paying attention to,...

Ted Lasso’s creators went into the series thinking it would be three seasons, and they’re doing the same with Shrinking. Aside from the Apple TV+ series coming to us from the minds of Brett Goldstein and Bill Lawrence, Shrinking shares something else with Ted Lasso. Here’s what we know about another season of Shrinking.
Jason Segel as Jimmy in ‘Shrinking’ | Apple TV+ Is ‘Shrinking’ getting a season 2? It was pitched as a three-season show
Lawrence always has a plan for the stories he’s telling. “We pitched three seasons — the beginning, middle, and end,” he told Variety of Shrinking. “It does not have a sports season component to it the same way that that’s a function of the story. Like, ‘I wonder if they win or lose!'”
He didn’t say much about the plans for the future seasons of Shrinking, but one thing is for sure.

Jason Segel’s Shrinking doesn’t star Jonah Hill, but the Apple TV+ series loosely connects to the actor. Shrinking stars Segel as Jimmy Laird and follows his grief journey. Along the way, we meet Jimmy’s friends, family, and colleagues, including Harrison Ford’s Phil. Ford’s role in the Apple TV+ series directly correlates to Hill’s real-life therapist Phil Stutz.

Phil is Jimmy’s mentor and colleague in Shrinking. The character is based on real-life therapist Stutz, who happens to be Hill’s therapist and the subject of his 2022 Netflix documentary Stutz.

Shrinking stars Jason Segel as Jimmy Laird, a therapist whose wife recently died. To cope with his loss, Jimmy forgoes his training and ethics and takes an unconventional approach to therapy. The Apple TV+ series delivers a lot of emotion in each episode’s 20-30 minute run time. Part of that emotion is evoked through Shrinking‘s set design.
The seriess takes place in Pasadena, California. So, that’s where production spent a lot of time filming the characters’ homes and the therapy offices. Showbiz Cheat Sheet spoke with production designer Cabot McMullen to get more detail about why Pasadena was the perfect backdrop. McMullen also spoke about collaborating with Segel and the rest of the cast on set design decisions for Shrinking.

When production designer Cabot McMullen first started thinking about designing the therapist’s practice that is the heart of AppleTV+s “Shrinking,” Harrison Ford had not yet been cast.
Phil’s character was based on a real-life therapist, Phil Stutz, the subject of Jonah Hill’s recent documentary “Stutz.” But when it was announced that Ford would play the lead, Phil became Paul.
As for his designs, McMullen worked closely with the actors to develop a design strategy for each office with character-driven representation through artwork, books, color palettes and desktop details. Many of the desktop items were personally chosen or curated by the actors.
Running the gamut of appealing personalities, the ensemble is made up of Ford as Paul, a charming, yet grumpy man. Jason Segel is Jimmy — a man riddled with guilt, grieving the loss of his wife while trying to be a cool dad to his teenage daughter,...

Eva Longoria has wrapped production on her directorial feature debut, Searchlight Pictures’ “Flamin’ Hot.”
“I’m so honored to have led this team in telling a beautiful story where people can see themselves in these characters and are inspired by the endless beauty and talent that is so rich in our community,” Longoria tells Variety exclusively. “Every day we were on set, I was reminded again and again by our amazing cast and crew that our community is smart, creative and endlessly talented.”
From a script by Lewis Colick and Linda Yvette Chávez, the film tells the story of Richard Montañez, a Mexican American who turned the iconic Flamin’ Hot Cheetos snack into a global pop culture phenomenon. The film is produced by DeVon Franklin (“Breakthrough”) for Franklin Entertainment. Searchlight has yet to set a release date.

The Art Directors Guild has announced nominees for the group's 19th annual awards, and films that have come on strong as of late like "American Sniper" and "Nightcrawler" were in the mix along notable extravagant displays in the period and fantasy categories. However, there were a few missing pieces. In the fantasy arena, both "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" and "Maleficent" came up short, while "Exodus: Gods and Kings" missed in the period department. The most shocking snub might be "Mr. Turner's" in that field, however. (And it would have been great to see "Snowpiercer" get some love here, but, alas.) As a reminder, the Guild implemented a new rule this season. Period films must now have the majority of sets and locations designed to portray a time period at least 20 years prior to the present awards year. Contemporary films, therefore, must have the majority of...

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
