“Satan is his father and his name is Adrian!” shouts the coven leader Roman Castevet at the end of 1968’s. Rosemary’s Baby. “He shall overthrow the mighty and lay waste their temples. He shall redeem the despised and wreak vengeance in the name of the burned and the tortured.”
Even when making allowances for Roman’s (Sidney Blackmer) understandable delight at seeing his plan come to fruition, that’s a lot of expectation to put on a newborn, no matter who his father might be. Unfortunately, the sequels chronicling Adrian’s rise to power didn’t quite live up to those expectations. Neither the 1976 TV movie Look What’s Happened to Rosemary’s Baby, in which Patty Duke subs in for Mia Farrow, nor original author Ira Levin’s follow-up book Son of Rosemary (1997) manages to deliver what Roman promised.
But for the next film branching out of Rosemary’s Baby,...

Two years have gone by since a psychological thriller called Apartment 7A – which Relic (watch it Here) director Natalie Erika James helmed for Paramount Players and A Quiet Place collaborators Platinum Dunes and John Krasinski – wrapped filming. Soon after filming came to an end, rumors began to circulate that Apartment 7A was secretly a prequel to the 1968 classic Rosemary’s Baby… and now those rumors have been proven to be true! Deadline broke the news that Apartment 7A will finally be making its way out into the world this fall, as it’s set to receive a Paramount+ release in the U.S. and in select international markets, and in their report they confirmed that this is indeed a Rosemary’s Baby prequel. Maybe the fact that the Omen prequel The First Omen went over well with viewers inspired Paramount to finally release this horror prequel.

Few horror movies in the last several decades have left quite as much a psychological scar as "Rosemary's Baby" from 1968, a widespread cultural obsession among genre fans that has now led to a prequel film called "Apartment 7A," which has long been in the works and finally has a release window.
We first heard about "Apartment 7A" back in 2022, which was meant to tell the story of the eponymous apartment before Rosemary Woodhouse ever moved in and experienced the story's awful events. First told in author Ira Levin's best-selling novel, the main setting of that old, eerie-looking building on Central Park West ranks high among the likes of the Overlook Hotel from "The Shining," the Nostromo in "Alien," and other famous horror locales. Now, we're finally getting an origin story -- of sorts -- with ties going all the way back to the controversial Roman Polanski-directed classic.

One of classic literature’s greatest mysteries is about to come to life.
Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard) and Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) will star in Miss Austen, a new drama coming soon to Masterpiece on PBS. Hawes plays Cassandra, the sister of literary great Jane Austen, who infamously burned Jane’s letters after her death. But Miss Austen reimagines that tale as “a fascinating, witty and heartbreaking story of sisterly love,” per the official description.

Stonehouse, the new true crime series debuting on BritBox, tells the bizarre story of John Stonehouse, a member of the British Parliament in the 1970s. Most true crime stories feature murder, but Stonehouse’s story is about a man whose desire for success, fame, and power turned him into a spy who faked his own death. It sounds serious, but Stonehouse is actually a hilarious story that has disturbing parallels to our modern politics. With a stellar cast of actors and top-notch creators, this is a unique three-episode limited series worth checking out (read our review).

The third season of Amazon Freevee’s Alex Rider has officially (and finally!) begun production in the U.K. and Malta, and we can exclusively reveal that our favorite teen spy (Otto Farrant) is getting some new grown-ups to go toe-to-toe with. Aside from his handlers at the MI6’s Department of Special Operations, that is. Stonehouse, a three-part drama, follows the true story of British politician John Stonehouse as he decides to fake his own death.
Succession‘s Matthew Macfadyen, who plays John Stonehouse, and Kevin McNally, who plays Harold Wilson, recently sat down with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss the parallels between Stonehouse and New York Rep. George Santos (R).
“That’s a really good example,” Macfadyen said. “He won’t resign. There’s a sort of implacable, demented optimism.”
“[Politics have] always been bad, but it hasn’t always been as bad as it is today,” McNally continued. “In both of our countries, I personally think, but it’s always been there. Power corrupts absolutely, and it seems to be something we have to live with. The very notion that someone wants to be a politician should probably disqualify you from being one!”

Plot: A three-part drama, based on the extraordinary rise and fall of MP John Stonehouse. As a high-flying member of Harold Wilson’s Labour government and a seemingly devoted family man, Stonehouse’s perfect life spirals out of control in the early 1970s amid rumors of fraud and espionage.
Review: There is no shortage of true crime stories that can be adapted into television dramas, but it takes a unique tale that can make such a series funny. Murder and death don’t tend to work well in humorous adaptations, but when a bizarre series of events is so bafflingly strange and involves no one dying, it can appease many audiences. Coming from the United Kingdom, Stonehouse is a darkly hilarious true crime story that was big news in the 1970s but remained a relatively unknown curiosity in the States. This new three-part limited series adapts the exploits of John Stonehouse,...

The story of John Stonehouse may be little known stateside, but you almost wouldn’t believe the tale told in BritBox‘s three-part drama Stonehouse spins if it wasn’t based on true events. Following the rise and fall of MP John Stonehouse’s (Succession‘s Matthew Macfadyen) career, the ’70s-set tale examines his climb up the political ladder as a member of Prime Minister Harold Wilson’s (Kevin R. McNally) cabinet through which he forges secret relationships not only with shifty figures in Prague but with his secretary Sheila Buckley (Emer Heatley). These secrets begin to pile up in unfathomable ways to the point where John just can’t take it anymore and he decides to fake his own disappearance by traveling to Miami and continuing on to Melbourne, Australia. Of course, not all will go according to plan. As part of the Labor Party, Macfadyen tells TV Insider,...

Warning: this review contains spoilers for all three episodes of Stonehouse
At first glance, ITV drama Stonehouse has all the usual true crime trimmings: deceit, betrayal, untimely death, but it’s quickly apparent that this is not your average true crime drama.
The set and costume design gives a sizable early hint that this won’t be a particularly gritty story – instead of bleak and sinister it’s luxurious and rich with jewel tones – and rather than the usual ominous true crime soundtrack we get jaunty, spoofy spy music.
Indeed, you can imagine this music gleefully running through Labour MP Stonehouse’s head (a la Kronk from The Emperor’s New Groove) when he’s recruited as a Czech spy in the opening scenes after being all-too-easily caught in a honey trap.
But in Matthew Macfadyen’s portrayal of the disgraced politician, intelligence (the secret agent kind or otherwise) is as lacking as subtlety,...

When it comes to the battle of the best 2023 dramas, ITV has come out swinging with Stonehouse, its gripping retelling of the true crime antics of MP John Stonehouse. Stonehouse has everything: an outrageous true story full of twists and turns, a stellar cast including Matthew Macfadyen as Stonehouse, Keeley Hawes as his wife Barbara, and Kevin McNally as Harold Wilson, plus an unexpected lightness of touch that provides proper laugh-out-loud moments.
Macfadyen is captivating, at times hilarious and – against all odds – very likeable as the bumbling, petulant cheat Stonehouse. Not only does this drama cover him famously faking his own death and fleeing to Australia, we also see his other career lows, including accidentally being recruited as a Czech spy, stealing the identity of a recently-dead constituent, and making a disastrous job of representing himself at his own trial.

Jon S Baird’s miniseries opens in 1960s Westminster, where John Stonehouse (Matthew Macfadyen) is an up-and-comer in the Labour Party. “What do we know about him?” asks prime minister Harold Wilson. “Working-class boy. Parents both trade unionists. Served in the Raf during the war.” Naturally, he’s made aviation minister – a role that takes him to Prague and into the arms of an obvious honey trap. “We would like you to become an unofficial representative of our country in Great Britain,” he’s told, in a smoke-filled Soviet interrogation room, as the film of his tryst is slid across the table. And so begins the decade-long unravelling of his life, a process that will end with him leaving his folded clothes and passport on a Florida beach and swimming out to sea.

"What do you two really think of each other?" Trinity Creative has revealed the official US trailer for the dark comedy film Decrypted, a wacky crypto film made by filmmaker Tom Sands. After debuting last year in the UK, the film is now available to watch on VOD in the US if anyone is curious - "the feature film that is taking the crypto community by storm." An outrageous and provocative film about a mismatched Nsa team who kidnap Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, to get the info they need to destroy cryptocurrencies. The botched interrogation forces together a group of people who then get into all kinds of trouble. The cast includes Talisa Garcia, Sophia Myles, David Hoflin, Amanda Abbington, Kevin McNally, Clive Francis, Aki Kotabe, Don Gilet, and Sophie Barker. This looks too dumb and kooky to be any good. Like the vast majority of other big name franchises, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean needs to evolve in order to stay relevant, as most people would surely agree after the first four sequels suffered from steadily declining reviews. Of course, if you asked the fans, then they’d make it perfectly clear that the reinvention most definitely wouldn’t involve dropping Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, but with or without the marquee name and major selling point of the series, it can’t be denied that the swashbuckling blockbusters desperately need a fresh coat of creative paint.
Of course, the ‘no Johnny, no dice’ sentiment has seen longtime supporters of both the actor and the franchise itself balk at two new projects moving forward without Depp’s involvement, something that Pirates stalwart Kevin McNally thinks is criminal. And the very phrase ‘female-driven spinoff’ is enough to spark the...

With the obvious exception of Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow, only three other characters have starred in every Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Geoffrey Rush’s Hector Barbossa only appeared for a split second at the very end of Dead Man’s Chest, though, and Jack the Money was technically played by three different primates named Tara, Levi and Boo Boo, leaving Kevin McNally’s Joshamee Gibbs as the franchise’s longest-tenured supporting player.
Gibbs and Jack clearly have a long history together, and while they were fierce allies throughout the first five installments, the former was frequently kept in the dark about what the latter was up to, and the dynamic between them always generated plenty of entertainment. However, now that Disney have made it pretty clear that they have no intention of bringing Depp back for either of the two new projects in development, there’s a high...

Disney have two new Pirates of the Caribbean movies in the works, one of which hails from longtime scribes Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio and is set to be directed by Dead Men Tell No Tales‘ Joachim Ronning, who’ll be flying solo without regular filmmaking partner Espen Sandberg, while the other is a female-driven spinoff from Birds of Prey duo Margot Robbie and Christina Hodson.
From almost the second that both projects were announced, though, fans were furious that an actor to have appeared in all five installments so far had been dropped altogether despite being such an integral part of the mythology ever since 2003’s Curse of the Black Pearl. You can completely understand the backlash, too, because having always played a key role in a series that’s raked in over $4.5 billion at the box office, there are plenty of reasons to doubt whether or not audiences...

Historical epics are a dime a dozen. Even on an independent budget, they litter the cinematic landscape. So, there needs to be something for one of these efforts to distinguish themselves with. In the case of Robert the Bruce, it’s an attempt to pick up where Braveheart left off. Other films like Outlaw King have tried a similar approach with the character, to varying degrees of success. Here, the result is a bit of a letdown, as the singular focus doesn’t serve the title character well. Now on Digital, it’s an option for those of you who dig these sorts of period pieces, but it’s unlikely to satisfy your craving. The results just aren’t really there for this project. The movie is a period piece/historical epic, centered on the title character, Robert the Bruce (Angus Macfadyen). Specifically, it covers the time after William Wallace’s victories depicted in Braveheart,...

Created by Chris Lang, ITV’s Unforgotten pairs Nicola Walker’s Dci Cassie Stuart with Sanjeev Bhaskar’s Di Sunil Khan. Along with their team, those two investigate decades-old murder cases, piecing together events that transpired many years ago to deliver justice and closure to the victim and their relatives.
Series one saw the duo called to investigate the remains of a man long-buried under the foundations of a London home, while series two began with the discovery of a skeleton dredged up from the River Lea. Series three was the distressing story of a missing teenager whose body was discovered under the central reservation of a motorway.
Series four, which starts with the discovery of a body stored for decades in a domestic freezer, will star New Tricks’ Sheila Hancock, Killing Eve’s Susan Lynch, Wanderlust’s Andy Nyman and more. See below for the full cast and plot details.

"Scotland is clutched in the grip of a mighty hand... Now, we'll set her free!" Screen Media Films has just released another official Us trailer for the Scottish historical action drama Robert the Bruce, made by Australian director Richard Gray. Robert the Bruce is a hard-hitting historical epic covering the turbulent time after William Wallace's victories depicted in Braveheart. This originally premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival last year - which is when we featured the first UK trailer. Angus Macfadyen stars (playing the same role he played in Braveheart), joined by a big cast with Jared Harris, Zach McGowan, Daniel Portman, Emma Kenney, Melora Walters, Anna Hutchison, Talitha Eliana Bateman, Patrick Fugit, Gabriel Bateman, and Kevin McNally. The film also features original music from Scottish national treasure Lulu. This looks like it might be good, or might very boring, and they're definitely playing off of "Game of Thrones" being over.
