The 2024 Hobart International promises a lot of exciting action with a very solid entry list for a Wta 250 tournament held from January 8th to 13th, 2024.
The Wta 250 event held at the Hobart International Tennis Centre doesn't always attract the strongest field, as it's held between Wta 500 tournaments and the Australian Open, but every year some good players find their way to Hobart.
In 2024, it will be the 2017 US Open champion, Sloane Stephens, who will compete at the tournament. Ahead of the event, the tournament organizers were sad to announce that last year's champion, Lauren Davis had to withdraw from the tournament.
"Whilst we’re excited to announce our full field today, unfortunately Lauren Davis has had to make the tough decision to withdraw due to injury. We wish her a really good recovery and hope to see her back for our 30th Hobart International in 2025."

Jessica Pegula was playing really solid tennis lately, but she faced a tough matchup in Marie Bouzkova and at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters lost.
Losing to Bouzkova on a hard court is nothing new for Pegula, as she was beaten the last time they played on one on the Wta Tour. Pegula won the match earlier this year at the Madrid Open, but on hard courts, she struggles greatly with her.
Bouzkova has some variety in her game and plays various types of shots which don't help Pegula with her rhythm. She likes those matches where both players hit as hard as they can, which allows her to find a rhythm and then stay in it.
Matchups like this one or against Jabeur generally don't allow her that, and it's a problem. On top of all of that, this was a very lacklustre showing in general from the American, nowhere near...

New York, Aug 26 (Ians) In what is set to be her final tournament, 23-time major champion Serena Williams will face Montenegro’s Danka Kovinic in the first round of the U.S Open, the organisers announced on Thursday.
Earlier this month, Williams announced her impending retirement after the U.S Open. A champion in New York six times, she will face No.80 Kovinic for the first time.
The 27-year-old Montenegrin reached a career-high ranking of No.46 in 2016 and became the first woman from her country to win a Wta Tour title last year at Charleston.
In January, Kovinic broke new ground for Montenegro at the Australian Open after defeating Emma Raducanu to become the first woman from her country to reach the third round of a Slam.
The winner of that opener will face either No.2 Anett Kontaveit or Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian.

Melbourne, Feb 19 (Ians) Russian fourth seed Daniil Medvedev on Friday beat Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach his first Australian Open final. Medvedev was clinical throughout the match and dismantled Tsitsipas in straight sets with the score reading 6-4 6-2 7-5 at the Rod Laver Arena.
This is Medvedev's second Grand Slam final, having made it to the title clash at the 2019 US Open where he lost to Serbia's Novak Djokovic. Medvedev will be facing Djokovic again on Sunday with the latter vying for a ninth Australian Open title. The 25-year-old Russian is looking to become the first Russian male winner in Melbourne since Marat Safin in 2005.
Medvedev was largely untroubled throughout the match except in the third set when Tsitsipas threatened to make a comeback as he did in his semi-final match against Rafael Nadal. Tsitsipas was two sets down to love in that match as well before rallying...

Melbourne, Feb 17 (Ians) World No.2 Rafael Nadal on Wednesday fell to fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in a five-set thriller that stretched to over four hours. Tsitsipas fought back from two sets down to beat Nadal 3-6, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4, 7-5 at the Rod Laver Arena.
This was the seventh time that Tsitsipas faced Nadal. He had beaten the 20-time Grand Slam champion only once before Wednesday.
Tsitsipas now faces Russian world No.4 Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals, who beat compatriot Andrey Rublev earlier in the day. Unlike Tsitsipas, Medvedev had a much more straightforward path against seventh seed Rublev, who was struggling with the humid conditions.
This is only the third time in his career that Nadal has lost a match after going two sets up to love. The last man to beat Nadal in this manner was Italy's Fabio Fognini at the 2015 US Open.

Melbourne, Feb 17 (Ians) Russian world No.4 Daniil Medvedev on Wednesday beat compatriot Andrey Rublev to reach the semi-final of the 2021 Australian Open at the Rod Laver Arena.
Medvedev beat the seventh seed Rublev 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 and will now face either world No.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas or 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.
Atp Finals champion Medvedev has thus far won all 11 of his matches against top 10 players since the US Open in September 2020. He goes into the semi-finals on a 19-match unbeaten run.
Rublev stretched Medvedev in the first set amid high humidity at the Rod Laver Arena. The two players traded breaks before Medvedev finally capitalised by breaking Rublev to love. Rublev then struggled with the humidity as Medvedev ran riot.
Earlier, World No.1 and former champion Ashleigh Barty was ousted from the 2021 Australian Open in the quarter-final stage on Wednesday after being stunned by Czech world No.

Melbourne, Feb 17 (Ians) World No.1 and former champion Ashleigh Barty was ousted from the 2021 Australian Open in the quarter-final stage on Wednesday after being stunned by Czech world No.25 Karolina Muchova over three sets at the Rod Laver Arena.
Barty lost the match 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 as Muchova continued taking down higher ranked opponents. She had earlier beaten her compatriot and world No.1 6 Karolina Pliskova before beating 18th ranked Elise Mertens of Belgium in the fourth round.
Barty was utterly dominant in the first set and was continuing in the same vein as she led the second set 2-1. Muchova then took a 10-minute injury timeout which she later admitted she took just to compose herself.

Venus Williams became emotional and briefly left a post-match Wimbledon press conference on Monday after she was asked about the fatal June 9 car crash that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man.
Williams, 37, broke down in tears as she struggled to find the words to respond to a reporter’s question about the deadly accident.
“There are really no words to describe, like, how devastating,” she said before burying her chin in her hand. “I am completely speechless and it’s just — yeah, I just.”
A spokesman quickly interceded, noting that Williams couldn’t comment any further on the case.
