This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 3, episode 10, "Identity Crisis."
After last week's episode of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" saw Asajj Ventress return from the grave, the show took a pivot this week. Instead of visiting Clone Force 99 at all, "Identity Crisis" takes us back to Mount Tantiss and focuses on Emerie Karr.
Karr, who's voiced by "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" alum Keisha Castle-Hughes, is another female clone of Jango Fett, albeit much older than Omega. Introduced in previous seasons of "The Bad Batch," she's thus far been part of the crew on Mount Tantiss working alongside Dr. Hemlock on Operation Necromancer. She was also the one who gave Omega back her makeshift Lula doll at the beginning of season 3, sowing seeds that are paid off in this episode. The "Identity Crisis" the episode's title refers to is Emerie's, as...

StudioCanal is teaming up with French production outfit WTFilms on a slate of European genre films.
The agreement will see StudioCanal and WTFilms collaborate in the development, production and distribution of action, thriller, science fiction and horror movie over a period of at least two years.
StudioCanal will act as a co-producer and distributor for WTFilms projects selected during that time.
The new collobration sprang from StudioCanal’s successful partnership with WTFilms on Xavier Gens’ action thriller Mayhem!, which was a fantasy festivals hit last year and was picked up by IFC Films for the U.S.
“The success of Mayhem! reinforced our choice to focus our production projects on genre, ranging from action to thriller and horror,” said WTFilms co-founders Dimitri Stephanides and Gregory Chambet. “Since its beginning, the DNA of WTFilms has been closely linked to our personal taste for this cinema. It’s hard to believe it’s been 47 years since we first witnessed the adventures of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, but across the nine-movie Skywalker saga, two standalone movies, a multitude of TV series, and one questionable Holiday Special, we’ve learned it’s a big ol’ galaxy out there. With enough characters to fill a Death Star, it’s inevitable that not every player in this grand space opera would get the same attention as Luke, Han, and Leia.
In fact, the franchise has allowed a few characters to slip to the sidelines. From major players who were discarded into the trash compactor to those who didn’t resonate with fans and were quietly pushed to the side, here are 12 Star Wars characters who deserved better.

Spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 3 premiere, episodes 1-3 "Confined," "Paths Unknown," and "Shadows of Tantiss," follow.
With the three-episode third season premiere of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch," the creative team behind the show is doubling down on its connections to the rest of the "Star Wars" saga and connecting directly into the ninth installment of the Skywalker story.
In these episodes, we finally learn why the Empire so desperately needs the Omega — a female clone of Jango Fett — and it's not just to keep her Kaminoan handlers working effectively. There's a darker, more sinister reason for it and it threads effectively through the storyline of "The Mandalorian" and terminates in the revelations we get about the survival of Darth Sidious in "The Rise of Skywalker."
A lot of it comes down to two things: an M-count and something called Project Necromancer.

The Lord of the Rings franchise has enchanted audiences worldwide with its masterful storytelling and breathtaking visuals across three epic adventure films. At the heart of this fantastical journey lies Aragorn, portrayed by the talented Viggo Mortensen, embodying the noble lineage and resolute spirit of the ancient king of Gondor.
Recently, two beloved actors Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd, who portrayed the lovable hobbits Merry and Pippin respectively, have stirred up quite a buzz with their whimsical desire.
Viggo Mortensen as Aragon

The original 1977 "Star Wars" is a miracle of a film. George Lucas' blockbuster could have gone wrong at any moment for a variety of reasons, yet it not only got made and released but became a monumental success (spawning one of the biggest movie franchises ever). Part of why the film and its first two sequels remain so impressive all these decades later is their simple story, vast worldbuilding, groundbreaking special effects, and impeccable casting of mostly little-known actors who would go on to become huge after the films hit theaters.
That sentiment extends to the greater franchise, which has launched several careers and given small roles to actors who would eventually break out in a big way. That's not to say the original "Star Wars" didn't feature any famous actors at the time, of course, be it Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing in the original trilogy, or Samuel L Jackson,...

"Arcane" is one of the best animated shows of the past decade, a masterclass in adapting and reinterpreting a popular franchise for a different medium. Studio Fortiche delivered one of the most stunning pieces of animation in years with this show, which draws from the world of the hugely popular video game franchise "League of Legends."
The story follows a group of characters across the socioeconomic spectrum in the dual city of Piltover and Zaun. They are caught in the middle of a revolution when the discovery of a century is made — arcane technology, which is essentially magic. There are compelling characters and stories, exquisite worldbuilding, and gorgeous fight scenes to boot.
"Arcane" also boasts a fantastic voice cast that includes Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, Katie Leung, and many more actors who are set to return for season 2.

The acting ensemble in Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy is nothing short of spectacular. Younger actors including Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom became stars while the cast was peppered with veteran thespians, too, including Sir Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, and John Rhys-Davies.
British actors such as Sean Bean and Andy Serkis, American stars like Sean Astin and Viggo Mortensen, and Australian performers including Cate Blanchett and David Wenham all melded together to breathe life into Middle Earth. The shocking thing, however, is that only one actor landed an Oscar nomination for their work in the esteemed trilogy. That was McKellen, who was nominated in 2002 for playing Gandalf the Grey in the first movie, “The Fellowship of the Ring.” But so many more actors could and should have been nominated for their work in Jackson’s film series. Here are just five such cases.

Looks like all those early concerns about whether name stars would walk the picket line ended up being a waste of energy: a strike captain on Saturday recognized Day 100 of the SAG-AFTRA strike by calling out many of the big names who joined the rank and file in those daily protests.
“Instead of talking about who is not on the picket line, let’s celebrate the name talent who have been showing up,” wrote Chelsea Schwartz, who encouraged her followers to add to her thread.
Among those she singled out were Chris Pine, Jennifer Garner, Timothy Olyphant, Mandy Moore, Ben Schwartz, Nick Offerman, Ming-Na Wen, Sam Elliott, Jack Black, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Margot Robbie, Jon Cryer, Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Jennifer Grey, Clarke Gregg, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rhys Darby, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel, Sterling K Brown, Ben Barnes, Jack Quaid, Robert Pine, Raegan Revord, Tate Donovan,...

In the era of streaming consolidation, as media companies from Warner Bros. Discovery to Paramount Global to Disney are all finding new ways to house their content in one centralized service, it can be a fraught exercise to launch a new subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service, especially one that is aiming to appeal to a very narrow audience. However, after becoming a major player in the European streaming market, Viaplay launched in the United States in late February, looking to carve out a unique niche in an under-served corner of the streaming space.

They’ve found the perfect creative team for me to entrust The Bachelor franchise and keep this lightening in a bottle bold and moving forward. Let the journey continue,” Fleiss said.
Fleiss created The Bachelor, which debuted in 2002 led by 31-year-old Alex Michel, a Harvard educated management consultant from Charlottesville, Virginia. He is also the creative force behind The Bachelorette,...

(Welcome to Best Action Scene Ever, a column dedicated to breaking down the best, most effective action sequences throughout the genre. In this edition, we revisit the last time a crowd-pleasing, action-heavy genre film swept the Academy Awards with "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.")
I'm not breaking any new ground here by pointing out that, traditionally, action movies haven't fared all that well at the Academy Awards. When "Mad Max: Fury Road," arguably the greatest of all time, could handily win most of the technical, below-the-line awards but be denied any of the more "prestigious" honors back in 2016, well, that kind of says it all. The fully-ingrained genre bias within the voting body might finally have started to melt away in recent history, as evidenced by "Everything Everywhere All At Once" and its delightfully strong performance at this year's awards, but certain films managed to...

"Dungeons & Dragons," and tabletop RPGs in general, are some of the most fun you can do with a group. The crafting of a fantasy world and the improvised telling of a story as a community is exhilarating, and it's no surprise that livestream campaigns of these games have become so popular in recent years. As time-consuming as the games can be, they offer long-form storytelling that can never be replicated, because no two tables and no two campaigns are the same.
Of course, there are "Dungeons & Dragons" livestreams and then there's "Critical Role," a livestream show where a group of voice actors, led by Matt Mercer, play a game of "D&d." The show started streaming in 2015 and it quickly grew to titanic levels of popularity, with millions of views and subscribers. Evangeline Lilly is one “cool” mom.
The Canadian actress is set to star in the upcoming “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” Marvel flick as Hope Van Dyne alongside Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang.
Lilly admitted her starring in the much-talked about film has definitely gone down well with her and Norman Kali’s two kids.
She told People at the Los Angeles premiere on Monday that it scored her “major cool points” with her children, especially Kahekili Kali, 11.
Lilly admitted, “I needed it so bad with my oldest son because he didn’t believe a word I ever said.

This article contains spoilers for the entirety of Lost.
ABC’s classic genre hit Lost is remembered fondly in the annals of TV for many reasons. The J.J. Abrams co-created series (that was eventually shepherded by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse) understood the fundamentals of its storytelling mission well. The characters were satisfyingly complicated, the philosophy was on point, and the mysteries were intriguing.
And *whispers* guess what: the ending was good. But we can argue that particular point some other day. Because right now, it’s time to talk about another, and perhaps the most important, reason why Lost was remembered fondly: its dedication to near constant shocking twists and turns.
As an episodic TV series in the mid-2000s, before the streaming binge model took off, Lost needed a way to keep viewers interested in returning for its sprawling sci-fi saga week after week. And the formula it...

Forget "Star Wars," forget "The Matrix," forget "The Godfather." Only one film franchise successfully delivers the goods from start to finish — Peter Jackson's magnificent "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Based on J.R.R. Tolkien's acclaimed novels, this staggering film series remains one of the most astonishing accomplishments in motion picture history thanks to its wondrous visuals, exciting battles, emotional story, and colorful characters.
Indeed, it boggles the mind to think "The Fellowship of the Ring" blasted into theaters over 20 years ago! The franchise went on to earn billions of dollars at the box office and a treasure trove of awards. "The Return of the King," the final entry released in December of 2003, won Best Picture and Best Director at the Academy Awards, becoming the first fantasy film to take home such honors. Truly, this monumental event captured the world's imagination to an astonishing degree.

Moonhaven is now not returning to AMC+ for a second season after all. The streaming service has reversed the decision made in July to renew the futuristic thriller series. At the time, AMC Networks said that it was the most-watched AMC+ exclusive series. The show's cancellation is reportedly due to dramatic cost-cutting moves at AMC Networks.
Starring Emma McDonald, Dominic Monaghan, Amara Karan, Ayelet Zurer, Joe Manganiello, Kadeem Hardison, and Yazzmin Newell, the sci-fi series was created by Peter Ocko. It's set 100 years into the future at a colony on the moon.

AMC+ has canceled its sci-fi series “Moonhaven,” with the subscription video streaming service reversing its decision just four months ago to renew it for a second season.
The second season from creator and showrunner Peter Ocko was set to span six episodes and return to AMC+ in 2023. The cancellation comes amid programming write-downs and “large-scale layoff” at AMC Networks.
Upon its renewal in July, Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, said in a statement, “This is such an engaging and entertaining series, brilliantly conceived and run by Peter. The story is suspenseful, provocative and prescient, and features a phenomenal cast that delivers mesmerizing performances. What Peter and the team are crafting for Season 2 is next level, and the fans will be thrilled.”

The moon colony is closing down as AMC+ will not proceed with a second season of Moonhaven. Word of the cancellation comes four months after the dystonic sci-fi series was renewed for a second season and days after AMC Networks announced sweeping cost-cutting measures as CEO Christina Spade stepped down, which included laying off 20 of its U.S. staff, and write-downs for up to 475 million as it restructures its business. Up to 400 million of that is for content-related moves the company calls “strategic programming assessments”

Long before the days of "Breaking Bad," "Game of Thrones," and "Stranger Things," "Lost" was the "must-see" television show that everyone was obsessed with. You simply had to tune in to ABC each week to see the latest shocking plot twist. That shows how radically the entertainment industry has changed. Today, blockbuster shows with budgets that rival feature films are just as high profile as Hollywood's superhero movies. "Lost" set the precedent for the future of entertainment.
In addition to the stunning spectacle of the series, "Lost" employed some creative talents who would go on to be incredibly influential. The series was developed by Damon Lindelof, who would later create both the HBO sci-fi drama "The Leftovers" and the inventive reworking of "Watchmen." The pilot of "Lost" was directed by J.J. Abrams, and the brilliant score from Michael Giacchino made the show feel just as epic as anything that you'd see on the big screen.

Gandalf the Grey has been around for a long time. Long before he met Frodo Baggins, or even Bilbo, J.R.R. Tolkien's works say he was created as a Maiar, a celestial-like being that forged the earth before the First Age. Yet the author's texts only give us the specifics of Gandalf's history during the Third Age. So what was he doing before that? Why, hanging out with more hobbits and halflings, of course.

The season finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" proved that, even in its darkest moments, the series will look to the light for hope. Although a chunk of the story is relegated to finding out his true identity, the finale focuses on the friendship between the wizard and the halflings. As the Stranger chooses to be good in a world dictating he is evil, we see his harfoot friends fight at his side to keep it that way. It's become an all-too-common occurrence for actors of color cast in movie adaptations of fantasy books to receive backlash, and the Black and brown cast members of Amazon's Lord of the Rings prequel, "The Rings of Power," are the most recent victims. Although fantasy-lovers have no problem accepting the existence of J.R.R. Tolkien's many fantasy creatures like hobbits, harfoots, elves, and dwarves, many can't suspend their disbelief enough to accept those fantasy creatures could be people of color, as they are depicted in "The Rings of Power." Now the original cast of the Lord of the Rings trilogy are standing up against the racist backlash and declaring that elves of all colors are welcome in Middle-earth.
When Black cast members such as Lenny Henry and Sophia Nomvete were announced in early 2020, racists got to work trolling on social media about how characters of color supposedly disrespect Tolkien's vision.

Why J.R.R. Tolkien Is Really Turning in His Grave – Over the Racist Backlash to ‘The Rings of Power’
A dark, malevolent force is gathering on the edge of Middle-earth. It’s more poisonous than the Witch-King of Angmar. More toxic than Smaug. More evil than Sauron himself.
That’s right, conservatives are marching on Endor.
You’ve probably heard something about the controversy over Amazon’s “The Rings of Power.” How some neoconfederate nudniks have taken up arms against the streamer’s new billion-dollar “Lord of the Rings” prequel series. Their big complaint? The elves in the show aren’t sufficiently Caucasian.
Red State, a far-right website, along with a bunch of other katzenjammer culture warriors, have been arguing that the series “perverts and corrupts” J.R.R. Tolkien’s vision of a medieval-like mythical universe by casting Black and Latino actors — Ismael Cruz Cordova, for instance, who stars as an elf warrior named Arondir — in roles they believe should be reserved for whites only, because that’s the skin...

Stop me if you've heard this one before, but a fictional fantasy show released in the year 2022 had the audacity to include a few non-white actors in the sprawling, glaringly majority-white cast and a lot of mouth-breathing racists still got really mad about it.
"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is only the latest IP craze to find itself caught up in such "controversies" -- much of which is fueled by grifter social media accounts that pan for views and stoke outrage from the absolute lowest common denominator target audiences. These have come predictable enough to set your watch by such cycles and yet, every time, the rest of us grownups somehow find ourselves forced to bend the entirety of the discourse around these bad-faith actors as they resort to review-bombing and other troll-like acts of petulance.
We've seen this happen recently with Moses Ingram in "Obi-Wan Kenobi...

The cast of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has condemned the “relentless racism” against its fellow actors in a strong statement.
The new prequel series, set thousands of years before director Peter Jackson’s trilogy of films, features many actors of colour, in contrast to the all-white cast in earlier depictions of the fictional Middle-earth.
Black British actor Lenny Henry, for example, appears in the series as a hobbit.
The show’s diverse casting has sparked intense online backlash, with some branding the endeavour an attempt to “woke-wash” the series.
Elijah Wood, who plauyed Frodo Baggins in the film trilogy, Whoopi Goldberg and author Neil Gaiman are among the celebrities to have already spoken out against the racism targetted at some of the show’s actors.
Now, the cast of The Rings of Power have issued a joint statement “in absolute solidarity against the relentless racism,...

The cast of new Prime Video series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” can count on knowing that Sam and Frodo have their backs.
As the new show is being hit with racist backlash due to the diversity of the cast, several stars of the original “Lord of the Rings” trilogy are throwing their support behind the actors, including Elijah Wood (Frodo), Sean Astin (Sam), Dominic Monaghan (Merry) and Billy Boyd (Pippin), who took to social media to share their support.
“You Are All Welcome Here,” wrote Wood in the caption of a photo he shared on Twitter, in which he’s accompanied by Monaghan and Boyd.

The original cast of the Lord of the Rings movies are speaking out about the racism leveled at the cast and creators of the TV adaptation The Rings of Power.
Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, and Dominic Monaghan took to social media to share photos to stand up for diversity on the series.
Wood, Boyd, and Monaghan shared a photo of them in person, wearing shits made by Don Marshall.
The shirts have the following message written in Elvish:
"You are all welcome here."
Astin, meanwhile, wore a baseball hat with the same message as the shirts.
None of the stars are associated with the Prime Video adaptation, which launched earlier this month.
The series launched just weeks after Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, which was also criticized by racist fans because the series featured actors of color.
