Liverpool have once again been linked with Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The 22-year-old’s agent has left the door open for his client to make the move to either Liverpool or Premier League rivals Arsenal in January, with a contract extension at the Nou Camp now seeming unlikely.
Montoya was linked with the Reds during the recently-closed transfer window, only to later indicate he was prepared to pen a new deal at Barcelona with his current contract set to expire next June.
However, according to reports in France, Italy and Spain, a free transfer at the end of the season remains on the cards.
According to Montoya’s agent, a new deal with the Spanish champions may not come to fruition, with a host of leading clubs from the continent keen on the defender’s services.
The fullback’s representative, Jose Maria Orobitg, said:

Luis Suarez was undoubtedly the best player for Liverpool last season, his 30 goals in all competitions kept Liverpool fans somewhat optimistic about the campaign. His antics which have given the bad press will sadly be remembered over his remarkable talent, a move away from the English media is something which he is looking to do with his next transfer. Arsenal have been linked with a £30 million move for Suarez but he is looking to move away so he can protect his family.
It will most likely be a move to Spain for Suarez with either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid, ruling out a move to Napoli, As Monaco and Anzhi would be foolish as they have the money and good man managers at each club. This is what Suarez need to stay out of the public eye for reasons other than his brilliant footballing ability.

Liverpool are facing competition from Inter Milan to sign Barcelona defender Martin Montoya this summer, according to talkSPORT.
The Merseyside club are desperate to strengthen their squad this summer and manager Brendan Rodgers is said to be a huge admirer of the promising 22-year old Spain international.
With veteran Jamie Carragher set to retire at the end of the season, the Northern Irishman is keen to bolster his defence and bring in some quality players as the Reds look to shut down the gap between themselves and the top 4.
He will have to move quickly, however, with news that Inter Milan have now entered the race likely to cause alarm at Anfield.
The Italian giants are on the look out for a right-sided player after Javier Zanetti was ruled out for a lengthy period of time having ruptured his Achilles’ tendon, and they could now rival Liverpool for the youngster’s signature.

They swept everyone aside to win Euro 2008. Then, in 2010, they won the World Cup. As if that wasn’t enough, they then became the first team in sporting history to win three successive major tournaments with victory in this summers European Championships over Italy.
Along with Brazil, Spain were widely tipped as favourites to win Gold at the Olympics. It would have been four major honours in as many years, a winning steak which would have seen them become the first country to hold the World Cup, European Championship and Olympic titles at the same time.
That’s why it is such a breath of fresh air to see them crash out of the Group Stages of the men’s football last night with just one point to their name and having failed to find the back of the net even once.
It shows that whilst Spain have looked imperious...

Regardless of how good your players are or how many trophies you have just won, you always need to strengthen your squad. Even Manchester City and all the millions they have already spent to win the title needs to be added too if they are to repeat the feat next year.
For that reason I have drawn up a short list of players who could be available to the new champions of England and would instantly make them contenders for Chelsea’s European Champions League crown next season.
Daniel Alves (Rwb) – Barcelona
Everybody in the world knows about the strengths and weaknesses of the Barcelona right-back but in case you don’t here’s a quick run down…
