WWE has a bad habit of retelling stories, and then treating their version of the narrative as the single true one. That extends to presenting their own storylines as actual wrestling history, muddying the distinction between work and shoot still further. Nowhere is their revisionist approach to real life events any more evident than in their refusal to acknowledge the pre-WWE background of many of the people that have performed for them over the years.
Last year’s brilliantly-produced tribute videos for Dusty Rhodes and Roddy Piper showcased clips of their careers outside of the WWF/E, giving credence to the legendary status attributed to them.
By contrast, their tribute video for William Moody two years earlier was a whitewash: a montage of the man in his role as Paul Bearer, the Undertaker’s manager and father figure, and talking head footage of various WWE superstars talking...

2013 was a mixed year for WWE in terms of storylines, match quality and fan interest, but regardless of those things it is still safe to say that 2013 was a very interesting, sometimes controversial and often entertaining year for WWE and features some really excellent moments and matches, while also providing, as wrestling always tends to, some septic little happenings that annoyed, frustrated and bored wrestling fans to tears. This set looks at a variety of these moments and matches in what is labelled as the “Best of Raw & Smackdown” from 2013.

Whenever somebody gets announced as an inductee in the WWE Hall of Fame, there’s always a question of whether or not that person deserves to be in there. When it comes to the late great Paul Bearer, there should be no question. He is definitely a WWE Hall of Famer.
It was announced officially on this Monday’s edition of Raw that Bearer will be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame. As most fans know, Bearer (real name William Moody) passed away on March 5, 2013. It’s fitting that nearly on the one year anniversary of his passing that he’ll be recognized with an honor like the WWE Hall of Fame.
Bearer was known to wrestling fans as the manager, as well as the biggest ally, of The Undertaker. When Undertaker started in WWE, it wasn’t with Bearer right away, but they brought him in because...

Tonight we will see the biggest and most hyped wrestling event of the year, Wrestlemania. This year is the 29th edition, and as such, the internet is wild with speculation, fantasy booking and predictions. They are everywhere. So with that said, I want to outline four things that may happen at the “Showcase of the Immortals”.
This will not be a prediction column, rather a set of events that may be an afterthought to the current card. The build to Wrestlemania 29 has been surprisingly weaker than usual. And that has developed a jarring and unsettled shape and feel to the card itself. WWE often up their game after the Rumble and present us with a set of focused, compelling and interesting “once off” angles for the big one. This year has few of these. Should I count the passing of William Moody as a way to build a match?...

WhatCulture! and the wrestling community is saddened to hear today of the passing of one of the greatest mangers of all time, William Moody, aka Paul Bearer.
Although no news had broken of Moody suffering from ill health it has been well documented that he has had ongoing issues relating to his weight especially since the death of his wife.
Moody had been the long time manager of The Undertaker after joining forces with the Dead Man in 1991. The two men were a permanent fixture for years, two of the most iconic presences on our screens in the early-mid 90s, until Bearer turned on ‘Taker during his feud with Mankind. He would later emerge as the father of Kane and feud with his former protege for a number of years. In recent years Bearer has appeared as both a heel and babyface with both Brother’s of Destruction, including a memorable feud with Edge.

Older fans of WWE will be grappling with happiness when they get the chance to play WWE 13; with a huge tip of the cap to days gone by and true legends like D-x and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
With developers promising improved online servers and the most interactive WWE universe to date, the game has taken terrific strides from last year's effort. The WWE game series is evidently moving in the right direction, towards a more D.I.Y. experience, perhaps in an attempt to give the game more shelf life, which works tremendously well.
Probably the most striking thing about the game is the actual graphics, which are in some places quite stunning. The movement of the wrestlers and the referee get more realistic each year and this is no exception, to the point where it is actually quite hard to envisage how much more realistic it can get.

It’s November 1990 at the WWF’s marquee event Survivor Series. During a traditional Survivor Series match, Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase introduces us to his mystery partner for the bout. A bell of foreboding tolls in the arena, the crowd goes eerily quite. Out walks a man, wearing all black with an all black morticians hat hiding his grim features. Slowly removing his long brimmed hat, a face of pure hatred and anger greets the camera. The camera seemed nervous to linger on him too long, as we saw glimpses of crowd members worried faces. Gorilla Monsoon couldn’t help shouting about how big and scary this monster was, taken aback by the sheer terror emanating form this beast hailing from Death Valley. Everyone was in awe of him. In the first minutes of the match he destroyed Koko B Ware and Dusty Rhodes like a giant would crush children.

The guest list this evening includes former champions and crossover stars like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Mick Foley, and Brock Lesnar, as well as pro wresting legends from previous generations (Roddy Piper, Bret Hart, Mae Young, Sgt. Slaughter, Vader, Bob Backlund, and Road Warrior Animal among them). There’s also a ton of other stuff planned, like...

WWE Extreme Rules is the time of year where stipulation matches take centre stage, so what better time to look back at some of the strangest gimmick matches in wrestling history.
Kennel from Hell
Watch It Here
So a retired prison guard steals your dog, invites you over and tricks you into eating him. How do you get revenge? Challenge them to a, “Kennel from Hell” that’s how! On paper it sounded intimidating. A cage surrounding the ring, a hell in the cell surrounding that and in between those rabid dogs. The only way to win was to escape both cages and outrun those angry dogs. Sounds exciting. Unfortunately it wasn’t.
The first (and last) “Kennel from Hell,“ took place at WWF Unforgiven 1999, between Al Snow and the Big Bossman. Unforgiven was already an odd event before the Kennel even came out. The first match of the evening...

Brock Lesnar makes his long-awaited return to a WWE ring for tonight’s WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view, headlined by his clash with WWE’s poster boy John Cena. This will be the former Ufc Heavyweight Champion’s first match in the company since his WrestleMania 20 bout with Goldberg where he was booed out of the building for what the WWE fans perceived as turning his back on them.
WWE have packed their pay-per-view with six more bouts, including Cm Punk defending his WWE Title in a Chicago Street Fight against Chris Jericho with the hometown support in the Allstate Arena expected to provide a lightning atmosphere. Other matches include Randy Orton vs Kane in a Falls Count Anywhere Match and a World Title 2 out of 3 falls re-match between Daniel Bryan and Sheamus.
Here are our WWE Extreme Rules preview and predictions, which airs tonight at 1am on Sky Box Office...

Last night’s WWE three-hour Raw SuperShow results from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan….
A contract signing for Extreme Rules pay-per-view opens the show with Teddy Long already in the ring. Teddy introduces John Cena who comes out. He then welcomes Brock Lesnar and Cena looks worried as the music plays but John Laurinaitis comes out instead and questions Teddy. Laurinaitis has already told Long that Lesnar isn’t here yet and the contract signing will take place when Brock arrives and on his terms. Johnny says this could be Cena’s last night on Raw and that he should enjoy it.
John Laurinaitis introduces himself to the crowd when Edge’s music hits. He says he isn’t supposed to be here tonight and in a few days his WWE contract expires. He says he has come here to talk to John Cena and that he would...

Horror fans today are spoiled. With the vast array of films available on DVD and Blu-ray via storefronts like Best Buy and Fye, online outlets like Amazon and Deep Discount, and rental/streaming services such as Netflix, there are few films that are unattainable. Virtually anything one might hear of is available some way, somewhere. But it wasn't always so...
Back at a time before disc (or VHS for that matter), the only way - and I mean the Only way - to see classic and not so classic genre pictures was on broadcast television. As a kid, I remember getting the local TV Guide and a yellow highlighter and systematically going through the listings, marking each and every show time of movies I'd heard about either from friends or ones that were obliquely mentioned in Forry Ackerman's Famous Monsters of Filmland . I would meticulously go over each entry...

This week, WWE dropped the bombshell that The Rock would be returning to the ring at November’s Survivor Series PPV event for his first match since 2004. Not since the “Rock and Sock Connection” put over “Evolution” at Wrestlemania Xx has The Rock been in a competitive match. And not since then has he sported that questionable goatee.
At next year’s Wrestlemania, The Rock will step in the ring with John Cena as his opponent in what has been dubbed a ‘dream match’. Come November however, the two will be partners as early WWE advertising points towards them teaming up in a 5 on 5 Survivor Series Elimination Match. So what better time than now to examine the best matches “The People’s Champion” has ever had.
Here’s ten of the best from The Rock’s wrestling career.

The Undertaker, also known as the Phenom and the Prince Of Darkness, is a beacon in the world of wrestling. Arguably the last true surviving gimmick from a simpler time in WWE (then WWF) in the early 90′s when the colourful cartoonish characters of Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior were on top, the long-enduring deadman portrayed by Mark Calloway has accomplished so much in his Legendary 20-year run that he has ascended beyond mere veteran talent, into an almost mythical status few in the business obtain. His longevity in an ever-changing industry is thanks, at least in-part, due to his ability to evolve The Undertaker character to remain relevant and/or interesting to fans young and old.
He has performed in every specialty match that WWE has to offer, even claiming one as his own: the infamous Hell In A Cell and it’s first appearances in the fabled...

As I grow older and find increasingly less reasons to justify why I continue to show a waning interest in the campy pantomime that is wrestling, Thq comes out with a game that on the face of it seems to remind me why – the sense of spectacle, the silliness, the fun, and even with the knowledge that it is scripted, the mind-boggling athleticism. WWE All Stars is a love-letter to all these things, yet with the possibilities on offer, it should probe further, and the oddly threadbare approach makes for an experience only fleetingly satisfying.
Those tired of the clinical, simulation-like nature of the Smackdown games will find this a welcome refinement – at least at first – harkening back to the more simplistic, pick-up-and-play arcade-style titles such as WrestleMania: The Arcade Game (whose producer, Sal Divita, worked on this game) and In Your House. There are five different modes of play; the first is exhibition,...

Despite being killed off as a series when Chairman Vince McMahon announced that WWE would drop the Survivor Series name and rebrand the event in last February, November saw the explosive return of the PPV spectacular, and that show is now available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray.
With a card boasting the collected talents of Kane, Randy Orton, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Big Show and Alberto Del Rio, the star quality is certainly there, but the question is: how does an event cope with being so cruelly undermined by the man pulling the power strings?
This year’s event was undoubtedly headlined, both in billing and in intrigue by the face-off between Randy Orton and former Nexus leader, and one of few resident Brits on the WWE rosta, Wade Barrett, with the added interest of the outcome supposedly deciding John Cena’s fate as a WWE employee.

Bragging Rights is a fairly new PPV concept which first materialised in 2009 and was sold on the premise that it would feature superstars from both Raw and Smackdown brands competing against one another for a trophy that would give their show the ‘bragging rights’ for an entire year. A fine idea were it not for the fact that Raw and Smackdown superstars appear on each others shows almost every week thus heavily diluting the spectacle of seeing these wrestlers interact and combat.
In 2010 the event was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota and whilst entertaining on the whole the repetitive nature of some of the feuds and matches served as another reminder that the WWE is currently plagued with far too many pay per views with only a select few (most noticeably wrestlemania) given enough time to centre meaningful feuds and matches around.

When I was first falling in love with horror movies, my main supplier was Dr. Paul Bearer on Wtog, Channel 44, in St. Petersburg. When they started rotating Hammer films into the line-up in the mid-'70s, I remember thinking how much crazier they were than the '50s films or the classic Universal monster movies. "The Gorgon.' "I, Monster." "The Curse Of Frankenstein." "Dracula, Prince Of Darkness." "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed." "Brides of Dracula." "Curse of The Werewolf." I vividly remember each of those films when they screened, and I remember the impact they had on me as I gradually pieced together...

They cackled from shadows, dropping visuals gags as often as they did bad puns. "Wit" was a job requirement, as was a distinctive guise. Usually of the macabre variety. Y'know, sharp eyebrows (or furry, your choice), musty, or sexy, clothes and a creative hair style. And there had to be something signature about them. Vampira had that waist. Elvira had the boobs. Dr. Paul Bearer had that wonky eye and singing decapitated head. And Zacherley, well, he had it all, didn't he? The "horror host" was an unusual breed that grew out of the '50s. Some still exist today, yet you really have to scour America and the airwaves to find them. Their purpose? None other than to make your horror viewing experience on television more entertaining. Sometimes actors,...

Even if you're not a wrestling fan, the odds are pretty good that at the very least you've heard of the phenom known as the WWE's The Undertaker. Plain and simple ... he's a big scary man. A film about this character seems like a no-brainer, and WWE Films is apparently inclined to agree.
According to PWInsider the odds are pretty good that Taker will be gettin' a feature film to call his own. A Western origin story that takes place in the 1800s. Well, shit, that would make him older than Flair!
Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
No word yet if Kane (Undertaker's "little" bro in the WWE) or even his ex-manager Paul Bearer will be making an appearance, but we'll keep our ears to the ground.
